Without gaming, we would be monkeys living in crude huts, hitting potential food and competition with rocks.
Think about it. The Human Mind is so powerful, so capable of bending its environment to its will, because of the capacity of abstract thought. The power to simulate concepts without physically doing it. Science, Math, Language, all of the important stuff we have as a culture exists from developing a set of rules that uses abstract parameters for simulation to emuate something real. And that grows out of games of every shape and size. I am, of course, defining games broadly, but arguably video games are simply the currently most contemporary form of a institution that is integral to our conciousness.
