Black Mesa will be out before it...
The Black Mesa: Source mod?
Their lead dev died recently. :(
WHAT?!
Wait! It might have been the Goldeneye: source lead dev. Either way I can't find the news on either of the blogs. But I'm still pretty sure it was the Black Mesa dev.

I want Dog to come with the companion cube. You break open the cube, and you get....Ozzy Osborne! He will fly in and bit off all the heads of the mean people.

By now I'm hoping we just skip straight to Half-Life 3. New engine, new possibilities. Besides, does level design really take that long? Something's up...

It already is being made (though Valve have been notoriously silent on it).

To answer your question:

- Implementation of Portal elements (which was implied by Episode 2)
- How Alyx handles what happened at the end of Episode 2 (I expect at least a slight personality change Valve!)
- Continuation of the excellent level design
- More battles like the end of Episode 2
- Kill an Advisor with a crowbar
- Updated visuals
- Who is the G-Man?

I can think of more, but that's a good start.
This is the exact game I'm hoping for. Except, I want a few more weapons. Preferably bio-weapons, like those kick-ass things from Half-life 1.

I want to see Valve make it terrible, or just scrap it outright. Just to see your reactions.
There would be blood in the streets and God would check his handbook and go, "Wait, did I schedule the End of the World this early?"

I want Barney to come back (can't believe no one's mentioned him yet), along with Father Greggory. This may sound odd, but I don't want them to fully explain the G-man, as that would ruin his character. Argh! There were a lot of things I was just thinking about that would be awesome, but my mind just blanked. On a side note...

I want Portal 2 to end with Chell getting thrown back in time, looking up to see Alyx asking if she's okay, and then Gordon looking down at the player as the screen cuts to black. Best way to announce Half-Life Episode 3 (or whatever they're calling it). For those of you who have been paying attention, yes, I say this on pretty much every post dealing with Half-Life and Portal. I REALLY want this to happen.

I'd like a really REALLY difficult, but avoidable enemy of some sort.

You know those Combine Assassins they cut out during development?
How cool would it be if they had those, like Episode 2 brought the Stalkers, maybe there will be a new, or maybe a few new enemies.

I want to see Alyx die and I want to see Bill (I think that's his name) make a come back. I hate Alyx so much...

I think Alyx will become....different, and angrier at the combine.
Angry sex! Yay!

But seriously, I just hope it lives up to the hype and that Gordon doesn't speak. He should only speak at the very end of the series as Gordon inevitably sacrifices himself to save the universe. What will he say you ask? "I love you, Alyx." That would be the best ending for Half-Life in my opinion.

You all do realize that Episode 3 will likely become complete crap because of the amount of time between episode 2 and the release of Episode 3, right?

If it does come out. I'm not sure if Valve gave it up entirely just to keep making the crappy Left 4 Dead games.

Father Grigori unfortunately is not going to be reseen in the Half Life continuity. Valve stated that his fate would be left in the mind of the player, and that he would not make any subsequent appearances.

The time between TF and TF2 didn't really seem to suffer from such incidence.
Half Life was released in 1999, Half Life 2 in 2004. 5 Years, Great was made into Very Great.
Team Fortress in 1998, Team Fortress 2 in 2007. 9 years, Cool was made into DoubleAwesome.

Valve need to up the immersion. Like, instead of not seeing your hands when you see a wheel, you see your hands, ability to see your feet, not being able to accurately fire a .44 Magnum while climbing a ladder, etc. Things like that would make the game immensely more immersive than it is already.

Alyx is probably going to trade in that .45 of hers for a shotgun/assault rifle if Valve clings to their "Narrative-through-gameplay" methods. Similarly, there's probably going to be an increased G-man presence as the story reaches a climax.
They're probably going to do something with portal-based gameplay, and my intuition tells me some form of multiplayer...but beyond that, I can't say.

...Okay, sure.

Funny how Half Life 2 still got 96/100 without all that, isn't it?
I know, I still love Half Life 2, but, those are just small things that bugged me.

Well, let's see... If the commentary is supplying me with the truth, then we must simply view the patterned nature of valve's innovative gameplay

Half Life 2 had the Gravity Gun
Half Life 2: Ep 1 had the emphasis on A.I companion
Half Life 2: Ep 2 had wide, open and (very, very slightly) exploratory sections thrown in.

Seeing as the additions are lessening in magnitude, I predict that the next one will be... I don't know, a new zombie type or something.
