Im quite partial to Eve . . . . . although i would spend way to much time overthinking which way to evolve the little thing that by the time i deside i would have spend all the entire night looking over the evolved forms skill and stats and all that randomness, ultimately ending up just running out of batterys for the gameboy -_- its a cruel worlds we live in. . . . . lets burn it
Magikarp...not really, i would only have one so i could boil it up for food.
I would actually go for Arcainine, mainly so i could have some ultra fast fire-dog i could ride places, but also cause i think dogs are great and noone would mess with me when i have a giant fire-shooting dog who would do anything for me.

Arceus because I want to be able to control god himself. If I had to be more reasonable it would be Rayquaza or Charizard so I can fly around in the air and unleash hell fire from the skys.
