I would think it would be a fun place to live, but I wonder, with so many fun personalities on the site, who would be elected mayor of our little escapist town?

That. Could. be. The greatest mayoral election ever.

It would seem very empty since everyone would be inside playing games and posting online with the occasional gang war between 360 fans and PS3 fans.

If an election was had, I'm sure that Ultrajoe would win in a landslide (being the police force Captain certainly helps), with people like Susan Ardent and Ben Croshaw in important positions as well.

I think it'd be pretty cool. None of us know how to run a city, but most can tell right from wrong so it should work out fine. Those who don't, we all right "reported!" on a sticky note and stick it to their foreheads. When the mod-police see 'em, they can decide what to do with 'em.
Also, I think Yahtzee would be mayor.

Note to self: Stop thinking about things too much.

Communism for all? =D

As gamers, I think we're a bit more competitive than most, so I doubt that would fly with quite a few of you. We'd be okay, I think, as long as there's no red light district. -shivers-

.... What do you think it would look like?

Would it be a clean city, filled to the brim with productivity and happiness?

Or a seedy little hellhole, chock full of violence and death?

Or something in between?

Let's Discuss, shall we?
Think Judge Dredd, except we'd have Judge Pitts. There would be a core clique of intelligent users, always hunted by the legions of spammers waiting on their doorstep.

I would be a nice clean city with kind folk. Every once in a while some wild eyed hooligan would come in and spray paint up the joint, and then the mod police would come and swiftly boot him from the city into the filthy unwashed land of the internet (a truly horrible place). Butr the city of the escapist sits on a hill untouched by the ocean of slurry that is the internet outside its boarder. The city may have some quirky fellows and a few odd and smelly districts but it is non the less a good place to live. Oh and the best part is all the PONIES!!!!!111!!!one!111Eleven!!!111!!

It would be a city governed by the laws of the gods mods, with rewards coming in the forms of cookies and internet hugs. Life would be sustained by these cookies which are only recieved when references are known or good debate is had. The cookies rain down, being created by a simple url provided between the image symbols. Everyone would either be philosophical fire-fighters or narrow-minded arsenists and voting is not compulsory (polls). As to the state of the city, it is clean and well-kept and any disease outbreaks (trolling) is cut out from the source by the mods gods. Everyone is happy and all structures are made from peoples uploaded images. Everyone has weapons (gun pictures, sowrd pictures etc.) but noone dies because the gods don't allow it.

It would be the same as any other city, with the elite living happy clean lives, disgusted by the peons on the floor below, the occasional scum littering the streets and the pretty suburban areas as prevalent as the grotty run down areas.

Wouldn't we have to worry about like every person here pulling coup's on everyone else all the time?

The streets would be empty most of the time, so most would assume that it was a ghost town.

It would look great on the outside, colorful and full of adventure and laughs.
But once you buy a house and settle in, several people show up every day to try and stab you.
It would be the deceptive city, that's great and terrible all at the same time.
Plus it would be hard to keep the nighttime trolls from eating your flowers.

I think it would be more like the fabled, yet feared city of Thalarion; Magnificent and overwhelming in its greatness, but inside its behemoth walls dwell only daemons and mad things that are no longer men, and its streets are white with unburied bones of those who have beheld the eidolon Maxi.

That would explain a lot.

it would be like san fransisco full of smug ... by golly i do love that episode of south park LOL!
You watched it last night too then ;D

It would be a giant gleaming city, a paradise if you weren't a total cock, and would have titanic golden gates which are the only entrance. Newcomers are rigorously tested by long-time inhabitants to see if they are worthy.

With the average age being somewhere in between 12-25 there'd be very little knowledge of how to maintain modern utilities so we'd be reduced to living in piss poor conditions with little to no running water and forced to scrounge for food. Unable to make fuel for ourselves would make oil and gas extremely expensive commodities. "Expensive" itself will become a very relative term because money will hold little to no value here. Knowledge of growing food would be highly praised and the secret of growing edible food would be a highly guarded secret.

With the population being about 95% male, women would be a highly prized currency. With a single woman being traded for barrels of food and supplies. Butchery and barbarism would run rampant over the constant struggles that would take place in order to control the resource known as Woman. Warlords will soon rise to power and be measured upon how many procreating woman they have control of.

Eventually due to lack of proper maintenance whatever structures we have left after the "Women Wars" will collapse. Our guns would soon either run out of ammunition or degrade from lack of maintenance and replacement parts. Eventually we'll be forced to live in shanty towns with nothing but wooden barricades and spears preventing our nieghbor from robbing us of our few possesions.

Eventually some foreign culture will discover us, enslave us, rape the few women we have, kill all our old men, steal our lands so that they can plop a Wal-Mart on them and end our tiny civilization.
This is the best description.

I can actually grow fruit and vegetables, I do it every year. I would be a highly regarded citizen then?

Also don't forget our draconian law system! Public executions, IQ tests for voting rights, death penalties, life imprisonment and even torture for every crime even petty ones.

Imagine the the persecution as well by the hordes of Metal fans, striking down every unpure music listener, electronic music fans would be lynched by angry death metal mobs.

I can see myself living quite a peaceful life, aside from the occasional lively debate with another intelligent city resident regarding politics or the like, usually just writing snippets of stories and combining them with other likeminded people to create the city's epic literary masterpieces.

I think that by and large the city would be peaceful, if a little authoritarian. But still, at least the roving gangs of idiots who roll in would be hammered by the mods before they can cause too much damage, the worst of it being shrunk behind strange translucent lettering.

I'd like to live there...
