atheists can be just as much agressive dicks about shoving their beliefs down peoples throats as religious people.
Broaden "atheists" to "all humans" for maximum truth. We're a pushy bunch. The idea that others might not share our views is so unpalatable, we've been known to start wars over it.

I learnt that the moderation of the escapist is HORRIBLE.

I'm just saying that a lot of the time people get warnings for no good reason.

Bring on the ban!
I learnt that not many people understand the link between the report button and moderation. The mods, being actual people, don't have time to go through threads looking for rule-breakers. And the severity of the wrath is often dependent on how many times the post was reported.

I also learned that the best way to find nice people is to join groups and start talking.
That's still very poor moderation. Perhaps more mods should be hired if that's the excuse?

It doesn't matter. Your effective counter argument is that they're human. Almost like this excuses them from the responsibility of their job.

EDIT: Also I was mainly targeting this at the poor moderation on anything ad blocking related. On which the mods have proven themselves to be dicks.
Wait. Are you saying that the mods are dicks because they enforce the rules about ad-blocking?. My counter-argument is not that they are human, but that they can not pick and choose which rules to enforce, or who to punish.
I'd take it up with Kuliani, the community manager. Don't blame the mods.

I'll blame who ever enforces the punishment and if their not being careful about how they enforce punishment then people will get pissed off.

If all they do is ban based on the amount of reports then that's poor moderating. If they ban out of business interest then that's poor moderating. And the behaviour of it is dickish.

Good ideas and grammar checking are not related to each other. I'm looking at you, most articles published on The Escapist.

...it's that the majority of modern-day nerds are pretentious, exhibitionist, wannabe-critics. And that I am one despite not wanting to be one.

that everybody is seen as an equal....unless your a conservative and not an atheist, in which case no body likes you and its perfectly ok to make arguments against you but you cant defend your self without being stupid, narrow minded, or a sheep.

other than that, EVERYBODY IS EQUAL!!!

(seriously escapist...ya'll need to work on that just a little)

I've seen people who have been regular posters for 3 years given 2 week suspensions for a "low content" post while some guy with 5 posts makes an even lower content post and gets away with it.
Just a reminder that since the current system has been implemented moderators don't usually pick your punishment anymore [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/codeofconduct]. It's incremental. The more punishments you have the harder they hit. So, in your example, the guy with 3 years would have gathered a significant rap sheet, so much so that the minimum punishment for him was said 2 week suspension.

It's also worth noting that "low content" is exactly what it says on the tin. Low content, not "small format". However improbable and difficult, you can write an entire page's worth of characters and still be low content since there's no actual content in it, just a lot of letters. Conversely, and while equally improbable and rare, it's also possible for a very small one liner to be perfectly valid.

It's content, not form.

For everyone else complaining about moderation, as long as you're polite and educated you're free to voice your concerns or complaints over at the Moderation Team Group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/Moderation-Team], or through the Contact form [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/contact/].

As long as you're educated and polite (can't stress that enough), your voice will be heard and your questions will be answered.

Cheers.

The sheer volume of relationshp threads that pop up here is staggering and I'm amazed at the amount of good advice that people give, bu I'm also amazed how many people seem to be stuck in that 13 year-old phase where they glumly wonder where they can go to meet a girl who will do everything for them, and will attempt to justify themselves with "I have low self-confidence!" as if it's some kind of catch-all excuse for ineptness.

And yeah, one thing I learned here recently, and I may as well go for a negative since I already talk about loving this site enough, is that mysoginy is truly alive and well, even among some of the more "polite" discussion groups on the internet.

I've seen it all here, folks, and in just a few recent weeks! Here are examples!

1 "My girlfriend dumped me, therefore it's all her fault!"

2 "I had one bad experience in a relationship, so all women are therefore harpies!"

3 "She dumped me and then went out with another guy, therefore she's a slut who just wanted an excuse to get with him!"

4 "Women think I'm wierd and sef-centred! They must ALL be thick!"

5 "Women go for arrogant jerks over a guy like me? why, they must all be blind!"

6 "she's making choices I don't understand or approve of? well, I'll show her I respect her by judging her harshly for them!"

7 "Women can 'pick and choose' whoever they are attracted to, us men have it tough!"

8 "Some feminist groups have made silly statements/decisions, therefore feminism as a movement must be totally devoid of value!"

9 "She placed me in the friend zone! she must just be doing it because she's foolish, if I pose as her friend and gain a position of trust, only to try to manipulate her behind her back by doing nice things for her to an utterly spineless degree in the hopes it will inexplicably gain her affection so that I don't have to make a stand and rock the boat, I'll definetly prove what a great guy I am and how much I respect her!"

I think I may actually love you... does that make me a harpy?
Pftshaw, that's nothing. you should see this:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.302697-Friends-Zone-AKA-why-arent-we-doing-this#12099840

This was what triggered my current crusade against this kind of mysoginistic idiocy. I never realised how bad it was until I suddenly found myself spewing forth a fucktonne of raw, untempered bile, and suddenly began to notice how much this kind of shit goes on IRL, never mind just the goddamn internet!

Graaar must try not to start again.
ohhhh boy I remember that one

I got soo angrey I made a "counter" thread...except I was angrey...so it was kind of a feminist rant

you ever hit the post button..and then think "ohhhh fuck what did I just write?" and at first I thourght it hadnt actually posted (I tend to get alot of error messages on escapist)

I didnt even look at it after that, I knew I was going to get ripped apart

That many people on this website are incredibly cynical and pessimistic, and have little compassion for their fellow human beings.

But regardless, I firmly believe that human beings are inherently good.

Between the ads, captchas, video ad captchas, and now viruses, the escapist really wants you to join the publishers club...
