If they develop superior prosthetics, would you amputate your biological limbs?

Not unless my other limbs were damaged, no. I think the desire for artificial limbs is to do with humans desire for perfection without the work. TBH, if I really wanted to be stronger than other people, I'd just go to the gym. I'm all for nanobots in my bloodstream though!

Well, maybe if they were internal they'd be much better. Something put in there to augment your natural abilities and prevent degradation. Something like that for organs would be far more useful. I'd also consider nano-scale artificial neurons to replace the ones I've wasted boozing it up. Or something to keep my bones together... Oh wait, I already have something like that. So, I guess I'm on board already.

Well, my eyes are terrible.

Wish I could have ones that have perfect vision.

And like, thermal, and x-ray, and zooming.

That would be awesome.
Sure, X-ray vision would be awesome, if there was nothing dangerous about radiation... or Compton Scatter, or Photoelectric Effect. Then there's the fact that you would probably have to wear a dosimeter to monitor your radiation levels, and send it regularly to the NCRP [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Council_on_Radiation_Protection_and_Measurements] or similar radiation protection authorities for your country. Oh, and you'd put yourself and everyone around you in potential danger every second you use your x-ray vision (true x-ray vision would be similar to fluoroscopy though.)

Yay Radiologic Science!

...Anyway, I gotta agree on the "zoom" and perfect eyesight ideas of yours though, as long as they don't have drawbacks.

This, I have had an accident and one of my bones was replaced by a transplant (that would be a little bone on my right hand) and it never felt the same, my rigth hand feels constantly numb and sometimes difficult to handle, and that is using an actual bone, human bone. A machine would be much worse. The idea of cutting my limbs to replace them with machines sounds too extreme for me.

Ever since Jurassic Park, I have dreamed of the day science would remove my legs, and replace them with robotic raptor legs.
hell yeah, Kid Stealth all the way

ot: i would take it a step further Reflexbooster, Smartgun, Bodyware, Headware... until you are ready for the shadows...

No and such a practice should be outlawed. Prosthetic limbs are for those who lose their limbs due to circumstances beyond their control, not for people who just feel like hacking theirs off.
...and why should I not be able to take a saw to my arm should I choose? Assuming I pay for all medical bills afterward, anyway. You wouldn't chop off your own limbs unless you could afford a replacement if you were sane, right?
But what if.... you lived in Canada?

FREE MEDICARE FOR ALL!

And I thought to myself... if they had limbs that were truely bionic, allowing functionality that surpassed normal human limbs, would I have my normal healthy ones replaced?

Personally, I think I probably would. I think the advantages would be too great, especially considering my bionic limbs would retain their strength and function as I got older.
Then why not just upload your brain into a cyborg? Why would you want arms that don't get old but a head and body that does?

Watched this one a while ago, the guy walks incredibly smoothly with them.

OT: Yes. Besides the fact that they would be superior to my biological limbs, i'd never have to go to the gym anymore, they'd probably have advantages like super zoom in artificial eyes, I could still walk normally even when i'll get old, no muscle pain, no skin burns, I could become taller if I want etc. Plus they'll won't degrade over time. I mean there's so many advantages, and if they manage to transform the energy from the food you eat to the bionic limbs so that you'll won't have to recharge them all the time i'd definitely get those limbs. You can also just put skin-like tissue over them so they look like just regular arms.

I would do it if it came with some kind of Bonus like enhanced strenght, a hookshot or an inbuild gun :)

Btw did anyone notice how similar Vanderbilt sounds to Vandenberg?
Oh shit it's VersaLife :D

That's just not the scenario - obviously if I could do that, then I would. I just think it's likely we'll have prosthetics before we have some sort of entire robot body capable of supporting a human brain.

Like I've said before, ultimately I think it'll be a race between mechanical engineers and genetic engineers to see who's going to develop the next wave of body replacements first. It might be mechanical cyborg type technology, or it could be lab grown body part replacements.

I was just throwing out a scenario to see how attached people are to their meatbag status.

What? And waste some perfectly good limbs? Maybe if I needed an arm or leg replaced, sure, but otherwise...

i'd remove both legs, and my left arm

i've always been terrible both on and with my feet and ever since i broke my left arm its been so weak compared to how it used to be

anyway if i get a choice i would like some kind of deus ex/full metal alchemist/inspector gadget limbs with multiple functionalities

Planet Terror comes to mind...

For me, it depends on how reliable they are. They could be the Alfa Romeos of the bionic limb world, and break down everytime you look at them.

If they were truly superior to my biological limbs in every way, and still able to replicate all the feelings/sensations that my natural limbs have, then yes. Hell, I'd do it just for the fact that my knees, ankles and elbows would never hurt again, let alone the possibility of being faster and stronger or having tools and weapons built into my arms. :D

Yes, without hesitation.
Also the eyes, and a bunch of internal organs, namely lungs, liver, kidneys and the entire digestive system. A second heart would be neat too.

Any form of cerebral augmentation, provided the risk is minimal, would also be something I'd do without hesitation.
