Whoever came up with any idea for any meme.
Not all memes are terrible. And memes are not exclusive to the internet, for that matter.
I'm sick of everyone saying this when I mention the word 'meme'. Of course I'm talking about internet memes. I am now and I was five years ago when this talk took place for the first time.
It's just some stupid way to take cover when someone brings it up: "Memes also exist in real life, duh duh". Gosh I'm sick of it.
No it isn't a stupid way, Richard Dawkins was the one who first used the word meme back in 1976 way before the internet was invented. It's an idea or practise which passes from person to person and isn't just about funny things that are repeated alot, it's about biological processes as well, such as the transition of genes.
So no, it is in fact you who is wrong to say that people are deflecting when actually it is you who is using the broader term. If you want to avoid it, use the term "internet meme", then you'll never have to complain again.
OT: seeming all the good ones have been said, I'll pick Richard Dawkins. He's too aggressive and militant with atheism, he seems intent on pointing out how stupid everyone who believes in religion is.
