i you could go back in time and stop one franchise from ever being made what would it be.

mine the CoD, series it basiclly shot itself in the foot after CoD mordern warfare 1 (which i really liked) and now every developer and their dog want to sit in the same seat while they make the same game every year with slightly improved grahpics, more guns and one new gimmick.
don't get me started on the landslide of bad FPSs that it gave birth to

Seriously though Final Fantasy imo was a lame dog the first time around, and now it's a lame dog that's lived about 10 years past it's lifespan and has no control over it's bladder anymore.

In fact while we're at it can we burn away the whole JRPG genre (deploying flame shield)

World of Warcraft.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Blizzard, but Wowcrack has destroyed lives.

Erm, you do realize that if the first Final Fantasy hadn't been made, Square Enix probably wouldn't be around today, seeing as Final Fantasy was the game that saved their ass from bankrupcy. And if they had flopped in '87, then they wouldn't have been able to make Chrono Trigger (unquestionably one of the best games ever, imo) in '95.

This is why I wouldn't destroy any gaming franchise. They all have a place in gaming history (albeit some only serve as a "How not to do it" guide, but still).

While I understand that opinions will differ on this it really wouldn't have bothered me if Square Enix had gone under. For one thing, if they'd disappeared back then it would have stopped them from bankrupting several BETTER studio's since. While they may have been involved with some good games, for every Chrono Trigger I'd say there are about 5 Final Fantasies, Niers, and Kane and Lynch 2s

What Macgyvercas said for Final Fantasy applies here too. Blizzard was in a BAAAD Place when WoW managed to save it's ass. Starcraft 2 was no where to be seen and BOTH Starcraft: Ghost and Diablo 3 were swimming around in dev hell. If they didn't release WoW when they did, Blizzard would be dead at this point.

OT: Farmville.

I'll give you that Nier and Kane & Lynch 2 were terrible games. However, I enjoyed the Final Fantasy games that I've played (which would be 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6). But like you said, opinions will differ.

I think all games serve a purpose and they should all be allowed to exist. Hell If I had time travel I'd be raking in the money like in back to the future. YEAH

I would go and remove Final Fantasy franchiise as it is the most overated piece of excrament on the planet. Why would you fight with swords when you are fighting enemies are using lasers.

Cue the hordes of people that can't understand why some people enjoy playing games they don't. Seriously, it isn't that hard a concept to understand that different people have different tastes. I dunno, most of the people that end up commenting on these sort of threads sound like they're butthurt over Call of Duty selling more copies than the games they like. And that's just sad.

On topic
None. I can't really think of a game series I dislike enough to wish it had never been made, although Big Rigs was so poorly made that it barely even qualified as a game, so I suppose getting rid of that would be good.

Im not really sure if I would "destroy" any franchise as such, but I would probably go and give some friendly advice.

Case in point: Resident Evil, probably my favorite gaming franchise of all time and it also pains me to write this. But it just has to be said.

To be fair, things din't really go wrong until after Resident Evil 4. Sure it was more an action game than a survival horror game and there were no zombies, but it still felt like a Resident Evil game to me. It still had a reasonably spooky atmosphere. You still had to manage your inventory and there were still plenty of files lying around to satisfy those who wanted to know more about the stoy.

With Resident Evil 5 though, everything was just too dumbed down and "streamlined". So what we ended up with was a second rate shooter with archaic controls, a horrible inventory system and pretty much no trace of what made this franchise so great to begin with.

If I had to pick one I'd probably say Half Life.

*Duck and fucking cover!*

Joking aside, I'd probably say Resident Evil. If it didn't invent them then it certainly popularised the fixed camera and "horror but with guns" aspects to games that can really ruin an otherwise good game for me.

Sorry but you have no clue what you're talking about, Blizzard wasn't in a bad place when they made WoW! Starcraft:Ghost was scrapped cause it didn't live up to the companies standards and Diablo 3 was scrapped for the same reason, resulting in Vivendi disbanding Blizzard North.

When Blizzard made WoW, both Starcraft:Broodwar(Korean e-sports scene in particular) and Warcraft 3 scenes were going strong, DotA was also starting to get very popular at the same time. So trust me when I say, Blizzard was doing good when they made WoW. That's why they afforded the huge investment to make WoW in the first place.

Anyway back on-topic:

The franchise I would burn away would be Sonic the Hedgehog!!!

I agree. For the greater good Fable, even the first game would have to GO!

This. I mean, there are plenty of game series i despise, but you know what i do about them? I don't frakkin' play them! And while there are a few series i wish would tone it down a bit because they bring bad publicity to the industry, i have to admit that "haters gon' hate" anyway.
