It's not so much a matter of games, but which companies should be exterminated with God's holy purging fire, and yes, Atari and Sega would go first. Atari simply cannot keep up with their games to what is expected today. I played the last Alone in The Dark, and if it would've been my own copy, I know it'd be nothing more than a pile of ashes right now, and their idea of commercializing an online flash game just proves how retarded they've become {Don't get me wrong, I really liked N+ as a flash game}.

Next up in the guillotine would have to be Sega. Yes, it is true that many people are still unexplicably loyal to it, and yes, it is also true that Sonic Unleashed does look nice {If however obviously ripping off LoZ TP's skin}, but it's the fact that they can only release a good game every once in ten years, and if we are to put it simply, it means we'll only see seven good games in our lives, which I frankly do not think is something to be so blindly loyal to. Sonic Heroes was an incredible piece of suicidal monkey poo that, even though meant to be kid friendly, was aggressively hard at times by arbitrarily making you skid on rails one nanometer long whilst dodging nuclear that blow up the moment you so much as glance at them, but kids nowadays tend to be a bunch of videogame smacktards that will never ever die, so it.

But of course, who could ever forget about good old Microsoft? You know, that name that appears in an uncomfortably blue background every time you try to make your computer process too much and that makes you want to set bear traps in every door of Mr Gate's house. Back in the 90's, shooters where starting to get into the swing of videogaming. It seemed that the american mindset was slowly seeping into ours, and that suddenly we all had a need to become glorious badass soldiers that can wield ten different guns at the same time and still have time to throw s and teabag their downed enemis whilst performing hilariously fast roflcopters, and so we all started buying and playing shooters {remember, they only became FPS in the Halo era}. Of course, games being what they were at that time, we certainly couldn't get angry at shooters, because they where so goddamn cathartic after we had a fight with our unfeeling parents. Or politicians, in case it was the dads playing. Or extensively Middle East inhabitants if it was politicians playing the game. But then, up came the , and a new jewel in videogaming known as the best FPS in the whole history of gaming and mankind, or Halo for short, and it seems Microsoft had some sort of virus implanted into it that destroyed all the brains working for the gaming industry. Every FPS up to today has been, in one way or another, exactly the ing same, and if you want to experience gameplay variations, you have to change game type completely, because there's more chance that you find something in another genre than finding Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and Darth Vader at the same time. And then the virus started expanding to other consoles and brands! Every console was now pulling off the same Halo tiness, and it's so infuriating that you can't find anything interesting in tons of dudes anymore.

So all I'm saying is that anticompetitive practices in gaming industry should be banned with the mighty power of Nintendo, because, as repetitive as they are, at least they can pose new dramas in every game they release {except for the spinoffs}, and they certainly make enough income to conquer te world by making their Wiis shoot laser beams or something.

On the subject of FF7, I can't see where the hate comes from.

FF7 was my... hang on... second RPG. My first was Might and Magic II.

It was, for me, a world-changing game. This is partly because I've always been imaginative, and I am most definitely in the LARPer category - I never stopped playing imaginary games, I just looked for ways to give them rules.

I for one actually LIKED Cloud. Yeah, he's a decidedly generic Strong Silent Type, but I actually emphasise with that now more so than I did when I first played the game. Cloud is Broken. I mean really, broken. The reason he's always got that "..." bubble over his head is because there isn't anything there - when his mind hits something that Does Not Exist he goes blank. You have that whole Tifa bit going into his head and finding out exactly what Does Not Exist, and helping him through it.

By contrast, I couldn't stand Squall. Squall never improved - he was still such a pathetic **** it physically hurt. I mean, the whole bit on the starship! Rinoa's leaving a damp patch on his lap, and all he can do is say "you should return to your seat" in what is undoubtedly a flat, monotone dirge. Cloud would at least have had the decency to sit there, silent, and feel slightly awkward (as I imagine many FF8 players would if an attractive woman left a damp patch on their leg). Zidane would have fucked her and not called in the morning.

Besides, if you want to discuss terrible RPG characters, let's look at Legend of Dragoon. Lavitz rocked, despite being a bit of a mommy's boy, but the guy who replaced him? And what about that Wingly *****? Urgh, I never knew you could get a more annoying version of Yuffie...

Anyway, I think if you took out FF7, we'd have missed out on many years of really cool JRPGs, including the re-releases of FF 1 to 6, and that would be unforgivable!

To start:
Eliminating games as influential as FF7, Halo, GTA or WoW has implications you can never oversee. No matter how much you didn't like them, you can't remove these boys from history.

I'm still going to nitpick like a mofo though

In all honesty, most of the criticism I've seen levelled at Final Fantasy VII is merely nitpicking; typically having to do with triflings such as the imperfections of polygonal character models, a materia system that apparently detracts from the indidividuality of the protagonists (god help us), and a handful of typos through the script that are typical of RPGs in general prior to when, oh wait, FFVII catalyzed the genre in the western hemisphere. Funnier still is when the same people who so exuberantly critique it laud a title like Diablo, which didn't have half the influence on the genre, was lightyears less gratifying in terms of atmosphere and narrative, and that's central innovation in gameplay consisted of click, click, click.
Oh, you did not just...

Yes you did...

Diablo pioneered that you could assign a skill to a certain mouse button. And the atmosphere of that game was top notch. I was also quite enamoured by the story, mostly because of the fact that it isn't stuffed into your face at every point, they give you bits and pieces and you have to put it together yourself.

JRPG's have always given you very little to no control over modifying your characters. The materia system is actually one of the more usable and better innovations of FF7 I'd say.

Innovations Halo gave us, for better or worse.

Simple and effective to use melee attacks.
Simple and effective to use grenades.
Combining the two previous innovations gave a rock paper scissors dynamic to its combat mechanics.
Recharging shields.
Vehicle sections with hard to control but fun vehicles.
Two weapons at a time, drop one if you want to pick up another. (I know counterstike blah blah but it does work differantly in Halo)
I respect Halo for putting everything together in a console shooter but they did not invent a darn thing but recharging shields, which is becoming a shortcut to thinking in game design these days. Like I said above you simply cannot remove this game from history without destroying a lot that came after it.
Two weapon carry thing - Oni and CS (yeah its a bit different blah blah back at you...)
Grenades - Team Fortress Classic and anyone who can't pull out a grenade at the right moment in CS is a dunce, they're worth switching weapon for at times, which I find far more satisfying.
Melee Attacks - Duke Nukem, I'd rather have a melee attack I'd be willing to switch to, in which case we've got TFC's spy.
Rock paper scissors mechanic? I never got that at all really, I played Halo 1 for about 6 hours. Isn't it just using appropriate tactics for a given situation? Rainbow Six
Battle to Calm ratio - Rainbow Six, Soldier of Fortune
I'd like to reiterate I applaud them for putting it all together, but despite the shields, which I found an annoying mechanic from the get go, nothing was truly new here.

Edit:
Games I'd like to remove?
Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game
To expand on your parade shitting on Halo being 'innovative'

Recharging sheilds as far as i know was first done in Jurassic Park: Trespasser. however to check on your health was a much more pleasing view.

The 2 weapons at a time, use'em drop 'em, Also done in Jurassic Park Trespasser. here, you know what? just read the wikipedia on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurassic_Park:_Trespasser

also easy to use grenades: was also done by Red Faction

Super Mario. Wait, I think Donkey Kong was the first game with Mario in. Whatever it was, without it Nintendo might have actually made a game that was innovative... or gone bankrupt. Either works for me.

Halo Wars..I know it isn't out yet, and shoiuldn't ever come out.

People, I love Resistance: Fall of Man, Haze, Killzone, other assorted console FPS's ...However, i would NEVER want an RTS of them or vis versa. Especially if its just coming to console.

Yes actually, it's a terrible game and cost me £40. If I didn't spend the £40 I could possibly of retained the money and still have it.

I'm going to vote Oblivion. I put over a 130 hours in to that game without starting the main quest, and I feel like it all was a waste of time now. I did the same with Morrowind, but unlike Oblivion, I still want to play it. All Oblivion did was strip down some of the better things about Morrowind, and replace them with shiny graphics and Voice-overs. NOT a good trade.

multiple activities, good multiplayer, and a good choice in weapons (+ a pimp suit)
The activities were repetitive and pointless. Multiplayer was too laggy. Weapons weren't that bad. I think I mainly didn't like it because it was selling itself as a piss poor version of GTA and it was very rap and chav based. I despise chavs and there culture if you can call it that.

I think someone's forgetting that Saints Row was effectively GTA but with someone who looked and sounded like Samuel L Jackson...

Atleats that's my memories of it.

I'm not saying i didn't enjoy the game, but the whole time i was thinking "I'm playing GTA..."

But that's my opinion.

Games about the olympics.
And Sports games in general.

It's really mostly a matter of opinion on my part as i'm not totally into sports myself.
But really nothing takes away the feeling that even just watching a sports event gives you then having to mash buttons while you're watching it.

I remember i almost broke my finger playing a game about the olympics...
And i need my fingers for artist stuff...

Okay... I only read the first page, but whats with all the hate on FFX-2?
It has a better implementation of the ATB then in any of the previous titles.

To answer the question I'll say FF7, cause then I wouldn't need to listen to all the fanboys going on about it...
