Anyway, choose an NPC to have a game built around, meaning that NPC would be the protagonist that the player controls.

Mine would have to be "The Arishok" from Dragon Age 2...

I mean, the dudes a total badass... plus he has an army of 9 foot tall warriors under his command. Can't get more epic than that...

Not sure what type of game it'd be, perhaps a total war type game where you command the Qunari, or perhaps like Civilization. Either way, The Arishok... is... awesome...

Definitely the Black Whirlwind from Jade Empire. He's pretty experienced, and he's worked mercenary mostly, and he's traveled a lot before the game, and travels a lot afterwards (causing much chaos when he appears to circumnavigate the world). He's funny, he's very deadly, and he's got a few interesting character elements about him.

Alternatively, HK-47 or Canderous Ordo from KOTOR. Though HK-47 might have too short a lifespan and Canderous simply not be as interesting.

Oh, in that case I would choose a zombie from left 4 dead, but in a silent hill type horror game. You would always be afraid that you would get blown up by a redneck or college girl, and it would be awesome (versus mode does not count because it is not like silent hill)!
