If you could do away with 1 gaming genre, what would it be?

For me I would get rid of turn-based RPG's. Turn based is retarded. Worms is the only game that ever made it good.
Ok, your turn.

EDIT: either that or button mashie fightning games. They're all the same and none are fun.

Sports and Racing seem to be popular choices. Imo I like indie sports games on XBLA and I like the old FIFA's too. I've always been a fan of racing, but I prefer something ridiculous and over the top to something Forza-like.

I second turn based RPG's and or JRPG's. I hate turn based things, and I hate emos.

I disagree, I still like turn-based. I'll say racing games.

They were fun for a while, but I just don't like them anymore.

there are plenty of great turn based RPGs. Golden Sun, Breath of Fire I and II, the early Final Fantasy games and probably many more i haven't played.

i wouldn't do away to any genres, no matter how i feel about a genre there are some games i like in it

EDIT: actually, sports games, perticularly football ones

I don't like traditional sports games. Sports should be and can be played easily outside.

But getting rid of any genre doesn't sound good to me. Almost all of them have at least one game redeeming its existence.

FPS's.

I like turn based combat if it's done well and requires you to actually be intuitive and think the strategy through fully, not the mindless HOLD X FOR ATTACK AND WIPE FLOOR WITH EVERYTHING.

FPS's just because it'd be nice to see people try to use their imagination more then COD7012 and Halo4251

Edit:
Since people can't read, I'd preferably just end all sequels period. Finish the damn game and release it at once (Part 1, Part 2, etc should not be separate games).

Also would it kill you to call it something else (at RPGs and JRPGs like FF....)

I was thinking pretty much the same thing.

Of course the issue is that I still enjoy playing Golf games, EA MMA intrigues me, particularly now that I'm too injured to train, and I enjoy watching Baseball and Curling despite playing neither. I can't really begrudge someone who played high school football or baseball wanting to play Madden or The Show. Rather than less genres, what we really need is more genres, and I'm going to create a thread on that.

Console shooter.

It has completely corrupted and oversimplified the fps/tps format while ensuring the industry does nothing but spin it's wheels.

No, you just can't.. it's not fair. My favourite genre doomed by you.

Real time Strategy. Done; get rid of it.
Without being turn based they just have no real depth, no real strategy, they just consist of thinking up set-pieces counters and rough tactics and setting up a very light and fluid strategy. Really nice tactical gaming, but a dead end.

Hmm, Sports games, as I never understood why people would buy a game like Madden, instead of just playing football for real. One arguement is that the person in question isnt fit to play Football, my response would be a football player tackling his sorry ass... cause I still dont give a damn.

That or the Generic Dull FPS, not the whole genre, just the shitty ones, like COD.

turn based RPG's, turn based combat to me is stupid, you don't maneuver, thus all your doing is taking turns hitting each other in the shins.

Yah, and they have no point these days with games like GTAIV which to my knowledge can do everything racing games do AND MORE.

Go play RUSE, WiC series or the Ground Control series. RUSE more often then not will bust your nuts wide open then stuff them with porcupines, that's how fucking hard it is.

As much as I dislike turn-based combat. I wouldn't do away with turn-based RPG's. I don't know, I guess Chrono Trigger has made it grow on me for a while

As for a genre I'd do away with, I'd get rid of Sports games as there are no games in that genre that I like.
