If you could exist in a game universe which would it be?

Fallout 3.
Bit of scavenging for spare parts, fixing equipment, banging Moira Brown, mole rat hunting and Vault Exploration. Think I'll like that.

Star Wars. Always Star Wars.

Obviously as a Jedi.

I'm going to say the Mass Effect universe.

The idea of humanity moving out amongst the stars and interacting with alien species, developing new technologies, and colonising new planets is as much an appeal to me as the actual game storyline.
Mass effect most definitely. it's only a tough choice between that or Star Wars. but i think I'm leaning toward ME, if only they had lightsabers in that universe...

I would have to say Deus Ex Human Revolution, other than the people trying to shoot me,I've noticed that it's a rather nice place, cleaner than most universes, probably as some sort of security in the same guise as the main character, but just not being him. That way I can get cool robot sunglasses too when I'm beaten half to death then shot in the head!

Well, they do have omni-blades, multiple designs and, since there are a lot of ME characters seen using omni-tools, threy're presumably not just for elite. Would that be enough to sway you?

Considering practically every game universe is in great peril, I wouldn't want to live in any of them.

Mass Effect has Reapers aiming to wipe out all life, Star Wars has Sith and Yuhzaan Vong wiping out everything, Oblivion has freaking minotaurs roaming the wilds, Dragon Age has Darkspawn, Grand Theft Auto has lunatics shooting everything that moves and ramming their cars into yours with no regard for human life, Call of Duty has a war ever year, Fable has a lunatic King buying every piece of land and forcing you to pay double your usual rent (although with a nice King he makes rent free), Red Faction has a militaristic, fascist company making you a slave and aliens coming from out of the ground, Saints Row has gangs on all sides of you and inFamous has superpowered freaks and a plague killing everything.

About the only universe that isn't in some massive peril is the Pokemon universe, but then again walking around in the grass has all sorts of powerful creatures attacking you for no reason and every step you take you have 10 year olds that captured these creatures against their will and are forcing them to fight for their enjoyment and they all want to attack you.

About the only I would live in is Star Trek for the holodeck.

Portal for sure! I would get lots of exercise running test chambers all day and chatting with a nice lady over the intercom. Then at the end of the day I would get cake! :)

Either Mass Effect, as either a Quarian (fav alien race) about to go on pilgrimage or as a human member on the Normandy.
No one special, just working on it. Or maybe The Elder Scrolls universe, a Dunmer adventurer.

Personally, I like the idea of living in the Fable universe. Though I'd probably just buy up property instead of questing, that would still be pretty awesome.
Same here. I'd like to be like Theresa or Scythe who are like immortal and ever-knowing, who view the world, never aging, and see it's progress.

For everyone claiming Mass Effect, think about this:

First of all, you wouldn't be Shepherd. Why? Look at you, you're not a super-soldier, you're just a regular person. Not everyone in the Mass Effect universe gets to be Shepherd, and that includes you. So what's it like to be a Mass Effect civilian?

1) The universe is about to end, and your one hope of salvation may or may not have died on the Collector Base in the middle of the galactic core.
2) The government is more corrupt and ineffective than it is in our world, and that's saying something. The universe is about to end, and the government just sits there and says: "So what? We have more important things to do." And what exactly is that, anyway? You only see government influence on the Citadel, and that place is overrun with criminals and an Asari prostitute.
3) Aliens would hate you. Yeah, maybe some would be your friend, but the vast majority think you're the hotshot new species in the galaxy and would rather you not be there at all.
4) Living on colonies is basically a death sentence. Between the Geth, the Collectors, the Batarians and Cerberus, colonists are basically ground-skeletons in waiting.
5) There's nothing to do. You can watch holo vids (TV), work at a store selling junk, drink, or watch an Asari dance on a pole. Welcome to every single city in the world right now.
We all read in the question that we wouldn't be the the title character of the game, and Shepard isn't the only powerful human in the game, the possiblity of having biotic powers extends to pretty much any species, let alone any person. True, you could just end up being as ordinary as everyone else, but that isn't the point of the question. It's the possibilites each game universe opens up, and what you choose to do with them.

1.) Who's to say you'd choose to be alive during the effects of Mass Effect? Like all the people voting for the Star Wars universe, trying to choose between KOTOR and Empire era, it could be you choose to be around during the First Contact War on Xianshi, The Rachni War, the Krogan Rebellions, or any of the times between.
2.) The government isn't corrupt, just scared. I admit this isn't much use either, but there is a difference. In the second game, you only see Zakera Ward, which is the poor quarter of the Citadel. Just because it's a political centre of power doesn't mean it'sd crime free, heck, look at London, D.C., Paris. And since the entire second game takes place in the Terminus Systems, outside of Council controlled space, you wouldn't see any government influence.
3.) Because you're visiting some of the roughest places on the galaxy, you're more likely to see the worst sides of people. There would still be Turians with a chip on their shoulder over the 314 Relay Incident, and Batarians by cultural design aren't exactly the easiest race to get along with, but there seems to be no hate directed at humans specifically, except when the aforementioned parties stir things up. Asari, Drell, Salarians, Elcor, Krogan, Hanar and Volus tend to be as politely declined to humans as their respective cultures allow, and NOBODY seems to like the quarians.
4.) Since this is an action game, you only see the colonies where something is going wrong. Nobody would be interested in a mission where you dropped into a colony in full battle dress and everybody said, "Yep,we're all fine here, no alien monstrosities of any kind to report."
5.) Like I said earlier, your life is what you make of it, and you've got so much you could make of it in the Mass Effect universe. You could go for the more pedestrian options you've suggested, but you could become a courier, ambassador, Alliance soldier, Cerberus operative, mercenary, Starship pilot or engineer, xenobiologist, system scout, VI designer, and a myriad other professions.

I hasten to add, I'm not trying to put down your choice of the Alan Wake universe, which would be pretty sweet. I'm just trying to put forward the counter-arguments behind my thinking for choosing the Mass Effect universe. Sorry it's taken me so long.

Vana'diel, from Final Fantasy XI. It's just...so awesome. So, so awesome.
And more importantly, has Mithras and tiny people! ;) Despite playing it for 7 years, I can't believe I didn't think of this. o_O

My first impulse was Mass Effect for all the awesome. But then I stopped and thought about it, and Humans die there an awful lot lol. Slavers, colonies attacked by pirates, and random bad stuff in space from all manner of sources.

Also the answer of Fallout perplex me. Especially after the part in the Fallout 3 intro where the narrator says "But when they emerged, they had only the hell of the wastes to greet them".

Cuz when I see the guy outside Rivet city begging for clean water, I say to myself "Boy I wish I had to fight for survival everyday."

Hmm. . . Still the Minecraft universe, being able to punch out and hold hundreds of cubic meters of materials, then getting to build something epic in it would be fun. Provided that I'm on a server. With no greifers. Or creepers. Bonus points if we suddenly get Aether mod.

Mass Effect. So much Mass Effect. Or maybe in the Halo universe, where i would stab whoever made the Spartan armor suits, because they suck donkey nards.

Pokemon. Always Pokemon.

Why? Because your in a world with Badass creatures with the intellect of a 6 year old who have super powers, depending on type, that replace real world animals in a non-polluted, non-gun-existant, and futuristic world.

Its Perfect.

World of Warcraft. Despite all the bad guys trying to kill you, it's a very idyllic setting for a home. Grizzly Hills or Nagrand in particular would be awesome to live in.

On the plus side, there is one small silver lining: the woman are hot, and it only takes 4-5 deep conversations with them until they throw themselves at you in the engine room. Of course, this only appears to happen to Shepherd, as you really don't see ANY OTHER RELATIONSHIPS in the course of the first 2 games. Maybe every woman in the universe has the hots for Shepherd, but that's too bad for you because YOU'RE NOT SHEPHERD. Also, even HE can't get laid until he brings the woman on a hopeless suicide mission.

No thank you. I'll stick to the world of Alan Wake, with its beautiful mountain views, its helpful and friendly town folk, and the bad guys who die when you shine a light in their face.
first off i could be my shepherd im fit i know how to shoot and im smart enough to get enhancements such as biotics and bone weaves to compensate for my not being born perfect.
next only the outer colonies are death sentences as long as you stay inside council space your golden.
and finally there are several actual relationships in the course of both games the only one thats ovious though is the assari krogan couple you meet on illium in ME2.
