If this happened, I would see people becoming very good at whatever game very quickly. Or just quit immediately. It's a win-win really.

WoW- get hit by something 30 times your size, no.

CS:S get shot 100 times on zombiemod, no.

Not just no, but hell no.

No way, i play for fun, pain isn't fun.

Also, if consoles/PC had the ability to inflict pain (through electric shock or whatnot) the first time one of them is going to fu*k up (and it IS going to happen) and shock a 9-year old to death, the videogame industry as a whole would be crucified (not talking Taliban-in-games crucified, talking billion-dollars EA/Activision killer lawsuit)

nope, that would never happen, simply because you would die in game, and no one wants that...

That is a terrible idea. No, I wouldn't play and anyone who says they would, are not really thinking about it. Getting shot, punched, burned and generally obliterated is rather painful.

Well, believe it or not, force-feedback is one of the things I'm looking forward to (for several reasons, bow-chicka-bow-wow).

I think the biggest difference this would cause would be in how people play. As in, taking cover and being more careful instead of charging straight in.
People would definitely be more careful. There would be no more MW2-style FPS games that had this feature; they'd all be slow-paced, tactical shooters. Working as a team would be beneficial so you'd experience the force-feedback pain less. And the greatest thing ever: suppressing fire would actually be useful! No one gets intimidated by suppressing fire when they respawn a few seconds later. This force-feedback would change that.

Realistically though, I probably wouldn't use it, however it was implemented. They'd have to scale down the pain level dramatically. And really, the only way a system like this would work is once we reach the stage where games plug right into our brain, over-riding our nerve signals so that we feel the dust kicking up in our face; our brain tells our body to move, but the signal is sent to the game instead.

I could go on about how secure servers would need to be, because if someone hacked it they could potentially send the wrong signals to the brain and kill players, and about all the ethical issues involved with the whole idea of it, but that's a discussion for another time.

I've got a scarier idea:

mind virus
mind trojan
mind worm
reprogamming

Yes, this is another subject I've thought extensively on.

If you really want to feel pain that much just take a razor and start cutting your arms - problem solved. You can even come up with a cutting game and and cut a line each time you die in multiplayer...

I don't really see a reason for that in videogames. I don't play them for realism i play them to relax and have fun.

Is it part of some sort of incredibe revolutionary virtual reality system that puts you in the shoes of the soldier/warrior/main character with realistic force feedback in relation to the game world? If not then no, that's a terrible idea.

Besides, whenever I feel like playing an FPS like COD, I just call up my ex-military buddies and go airsofting with them. Problem solved.

I've thought about it a lot myself. Hence my new topic, not to toot my own horn. Consider it an extremely long reply to you, off-topic enough to warrant its own thread. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.238404-What-evolutionary-path-is-gaming-following

Nope. Actually, from the way my room is setted, that is already happening. I rather read or browse the internet, that doesn't hurt me.

It would certantley create a real atmostphere what with you hiding half the time, afraid to take a bullet in the face. But porblem there would be, one person whom has the upper hand reamains with the upperhand. If somones looking down scoping you in the face, then theres a bad chance youll be able to get them before you take several punchs in the face!

Like those other few that have said yes, only with some major restrictions. And I don't actually play many shooters, so maybe that's why I'm saying yes. But can you imagine in a game like The Elder Scrolls? Everyone would learn to use "block", and healing potions would leave a nice soothing sensation.
