It's a sphinx (you know, winged lion with a female human head, equipped with ludicrously sharp teeth, claws and wits), only about the size of a large dog.

Or else a basilisk, but only if I was blind (since, in the original mythology (assuming I'm remembering correctly) you had to meet it's gaze to be turned to stone).

There is a surprising lack of love for dragons in this thread. Seeing as how they are one of the more recognizable mythological beasts, that shocks me.

I would want a dragon as a pet. Preferabbly one that is given to me in an egg so I may raise it how I see fit. To speak of color, gender, attitude, etc, allow me to direct you to the following:
