A miniature sphinx.

It's a sphinx (you know, winged lion with a female human head, equipped with ludicrously sharp teeth, claws and wits), only about the size of a large dog.

Or else a basilisk, but only if I was blind (since, in the original mythology (assuming I'm remembering correctly) you had to meet it's gaze to be turned to stone).

Murmaid. Actually I'd rather just have a pet Manatee. They're so cute. I could ride it. A mermaid, not so much.

I mean I'd rather have a beautiful normal woman than a half fish creature.

Funny story, it's the love child of a giant horse named Svaðilfari

A Dracolich. It's like a dragon, but much more powerful and doesn't need to eat or drink to stay alive.

Hmm. That's a hard one, gotta say... Phoenix, Cerberus, Dragon, Fenrir, Thor's Chariot complete with (sort of) immortal goats, I really can't decide!

EDIT: Wait. I got it. Typhon [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhon]. I choose Typhon.

I know it's wholly unoriginal, but I'd probably have a baby Dragon. something small that I could have on my shoulder.

Chimera, easily. Maybe a Creptus. Unlike the dragon, I can get the damn things inside my house without the entire thing burning down (They're roughly 6' at the shoulders)

There is a surprising lack of love for dragons in this thread. Seeing as how they are one of the more recognizable mythological beasts, that shocks me.

I would want a dragon as a pet. Preferabbly one that is given to me in an egg so I may raise it how I see fit. To speak of color, gender, attitude, etc, allow me to direct you to the following:

You're joking, right? Every other post says 'dragon'. I don't even think I'm exaggerating here.

At the time when I said that, there was mostly "phoenixes" and "wyverns" dotting the thread. I resent my previous claim, but my decision still stands.

Besides, nobody said they wanted a freaking pet Saphira now did they?

I'd have to say dragon or cerberus. Possibly a dragon more. So long as it's tame-ish and doesn't eat me.
