If you could have your own vault-tec Vault experiment...

So if you've played and fallout game, you will have heard of the underground vaults built by Vault-tec. These vaults all had a sadistic social experiment that was forced upon inhabitants of a vault. An example was when one vault, had 20 men, 10 women, and a panther! Don't you think it would be interesting to see the outcome, and how the people act in this situation.

I was having this conversation with some friends today, and one of them said she would have a full vault, but only give the inhabitants 3 days worth of food. All the population would be told, that as a fail-safe, when one person is left, the vault doors will open. So first, people would fight over food. Second, people will be caniballised. Third, they would have to find a way to stay alive the longest, so one may leave the vault.

So anyway, if you could have your own sadistic vault experiment, what would it be?

A Vault is built to host a 1000 people, people are given false news about what is happening on the surface over the span of 5 years, during the last day. The is word that the Vault Doors are failing and only a select few can hide in a bunker while the rest will be at the mercy of the outside world. the Bunker can only hide 100 dwellers, on the final day, the door opens at last while those in the bunker is irradiated to death.

Fill a vault with 990 females and 10 males with equipment that alters the DNA in the sperm to maintain genetic diversity but makes all offspring female. This means that any new males will have to come from the male's original sperm and will keep a similar sex ratio because if they didn't use the machine, the genetic diversity would be gone and the population would suffer many health issues. The point of this is to create sexism and objectify the sex that in the past has done this. Another interesting social repercussion would be attitudes towards sex. All men would have to become sluts, sleeping with people even if they love someone else because otherwise society would collapse. I must seem kinda self destructive right no as I am male but I find the vault experiments intriguing because I would like to know the answer to how society reacts and changes because of the need presented to it but the experiments are on humans who have not consented and more often than not, condemn many to death. Maybe when we find a sentient and primitive alien race like us, we could start performing these

Actually no, they weren't all sadistic experiments, such as Vault 3, 8, 15 and 22. None of those were sadistic and were made with good intentions.

OT: A vault where the inhabitants are encouraged to create their own society groups and elect leaders and create militaries would be interesting. Basically the result would be certain charismatic people would gain followers and start their own mini society somewhere in the vault and then the Overseer and select few would record how the societies interact with each other.

I'm thinking about forcing us spoiled city people to live the life of a futuristic farmer. Main food staples being self-produced agriculture, anything more powerful than a hair dryer requires charging through manual electric generators (re: stationary bikes with magnets and stuff,) and all attempts to create currency will be punishable by flogging.

I'm curious to see whether this will create a race of cannibalistic sloths who found it easier to evolve night vision than ride a bike for ten minutes every month.

Another thing, I'd want to see a group of 25 guys, 25 girls, all 8 years old, and aren't released until they're all 21 years old. I rekon that would be pretty interesting.

The ethical implications are stopping us from doing this in real life. The research would affect the entirety of a person's life, which many people understandably have a problem with: it effectively turns a person's life into a life of a glorified lab-rat.

However, I do find the subject itself - and the idea of the test - interesting, since that would give us further insight on the gender roles within our society: Is there genetic basis to our "traditional" gender roles? Is it entirely environmental? Is it evolutional excess? Since we clearly don't have need for specific set roles for genders in modern society, these are questions that fascinate me personally, since they obviously do still exist.

The vault would have lots and lots of tv which can not be turned off or down, and constantly repeats Top Gear constantly, a bit like Dave the TV channel but constantly, and i want to see how long it takes for them to go crazy.

mine would be give them unlimited food and water but stick each person in a compltely white room with nothing, then after say a week or month give them a typewriter and see if they have just gone insane from boredom or maybe they have honed their minds and create some of the greatest fiction.

also I would love to see what would happen if you could somehow make a society where kindness was money and see what the hell happens.

On a more serious note however - I'd like to create a vault where the rich and powerful are given the low demeaning tasks, and the poor and down trodden are given positions of power, just to see if those who say they could do a better job running things really can.

It'd be interesting.
