If you could improve any game by changing one thing, what would it be?

You can blame MGS 5 for this old school throwback, but mercenaries 1,2,potential-reboot. Add in a carrot on a stick leveling system that requires you to use the drops and airstrikes in order to unlock new ones. (Maybe even make them custom after awhile.) It fixes the games biggest flaw where you were hording all your cool weapons and almost never using them.

Syndicate (the reboot): There's a whole lot that could have been done to improve this game, but there was one that was so stupidly simple and yet so frustrating: let you adjust (or turn off) the bloom effect. Ugh, it gave the whole game this terrible washed out appearance, and nothing could really be done about it. It just ruined huge chunks of the game and was such an easy fix.

Let you change Soldier gender in X-Com: EU and EW: It seemed odd that you could modify almost everything about your Soldiers (name, race, appearance, armor, voice, hair, facial hair, spoken language, etc.), but it wouldn't let you pick their gender. Strangely, I think they also changed the recruitment %s in EW, because I swear every game in EW my barracks like 75-80% female.

Arkham Knight: Give me an actual final fight with...
Deathstroke, and the Arkham Knight for that matter.
The first one especially goes down in my book as the most disappointing boss fight in gaming history.

Final Fantasy XIII and I would make it open world, like in Chapter 11 (I believe it's the right chapter; please correct me if I'm wrong).

I loved being able to ride Chocobos, find little treasures from time to time, AVOIDING enemy encounters, grinding powerful enemies when I wanted, completing side missions with great rewards, and generally being able to enjoy and explore the world that I stumbled into.

Why Square Enix did not go with this from the get-go, I will never know. I honestly didn't want to continue the story because I was having TOO MUCH FUN in this area alone.

Dishonored: This one may go over the 'too broad' line, but make low chaos runs more fun. Now, I get the idea that it's called 'the high road' because it's generally harder to be noble and altruistic than it is to be petty and vengeful, and I respect trying to incorporate that into the gameplay experience, but Dishonored takes it to the point of making low chaos runs downright tedious, and does so seemingly more by accident than design, owing principally to a lack of mechanics to complement a low chaos run and what mechanics there were lending themselves towards save scumming as a complementary strategy. The game would have benefitted greatly from some additional 'benign' mechanics such as Skyrim's "Throw Voice" shout, Assassin's Creed II's Courtesans and Thieves, Deus Ex's active camouflage, a "jedi mind trick", or even just making Possession more viable by increasing mana reserves/elixir availability or reducing its mana cost so you don't hobble yourself whenever you decide to use it.

Small thing from Mad Max. Put the dog in the car and as a companion for on foot free roam. Basically the dog becomes an afterthought because I have to drive that terrible buggy and minefields are tedious. If he was in the car, barking at landmines and helping fight enemies in scrap encounters that would be sweet.

I only watched a LP of FFXIII and didn't play it, but many people told me that the battle system is extremely restrictive and shitty. Revamping that would probably help a lot.

Making the characters likeable and the general plot not so fricken dense yet simplistic would also be nice(AKA hire an actual writer instead of the 5 year old they ended up going with), but I think if the gameplay had been better, people could at least ignored the railroaded nature of the game.

I'll throw out another few.

Bioshock: The game pretty much goes downhill after the encounter with Andrew Ryan, including but not limited to the god-awful big daddy suit escort mission. What sounded awesome in theory(being a big daddy) turned out to be just incredibly annoying. At very least, I would have cut or heavily reworked the big daddy section.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2: The Strike Ops Missions(You knew this was coming). I really liked BLOPS2, a lot more then I thought I would. It worked a lot better then the first one(which I also enjoyed, but it was really hard to take BLOPS seriously at times). What keeps me from playing through it again(other then the fact BLOPS3 will be here in a month or so) is the strike ops missions which were trying to combine RTS and FPS gameplay and don't really work either way. I somehow managed to beat all of them, including the hostage rescue one if you let the hacker lady(whose name I can't recall at the moment) get captured but god it was a close one.

The fact you get limited tries is bad enough but also the fact that your team are supposed to be Navy SEALs and yet.....if you aren't physically controlling one of them, you're probably gonna lose. I have RTS experience, I've beaten most of the C&C games and the Strike Ops missions just feel like they're.... not broken but very flawed. I would have at very least fixed them so they could be beaten in RTS mode without having to assume direct control to win. Or I would have scrapped them. Technically they are optional but you aren't gonna get the best ending.

Also, I wouldn't have flashback missions count against the "Strike Ops must be completed within X missions" timer. How does a mission that takes place 40 years prior have any effect on something that you need to take care of now? They've already happened.

Xenosaga, the characters and their art. I'd have kept to the idea of Jr becoming an adult in the second game, Had Momo and her fellow androids look about sixteen instead of six, and generally made the designs cooler (Chaos looks like a gonk, Ziggy just looks badly designed with those stupid legs, KOS MOS was ok but Shion could have used some work too). Pretty much everyone except Jr and Shion would have had a radical costume redesign too.

If the characters had been more appealing i wouldn't have had to struggle to enjoy the game so much

I'm with you there.

I was messing around with the Super Hot beta the other day, and there should be options to turn on wall jumping and crouching. I know it takes away from the difficulty, but most of the time rather than trying to beat the stage, I'm trying to beat the stage in the COOLEST WAY POSSIBLE.

The only game I've been playing recently is MGSV and it's got so many small touches and is so filled with love I can't think of an improvement.

Since I've been on a Kojima kick, I'd re-write every line of dialogue for Leo Stenbuck. It's just terrible writing, and the VA's delivery of said writing is equally so.

I'd turn SWTOR into a single-player offline game. I hate playing with other people, and you need other people to run flash points and stay in level parameters with the story. It's not the best game, but it kept me entertained and I found it to be a bit like KOTOR 2.5.

Agreed. It would be a viable way to bring the dual class system back to GW

I'd make it so moving the Wii mote in any direction will remove the monsters latching on to you in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. The Wii mote picks up flails just fine, but it can't pick up flails in specific directions very well which made it quite frustrating when you're doing fine one encounter but literally unable to survive the next.

Truly the only thing holding Shattered Memories back gameplay wise. It's brilliant in other regards.

The reboot Tomb Raider games, replace the voice actress with someone who doesn't slip into American constantly, who doesn't constantly drop their voice in an annoying gaspy high pitched squeak, and fire whoever decided having her breathe into the microphone through the entire game was a good idea.

War Thunder: Balance the game already. 1941 fighters are not somehow the equal of 1944 fighters. 1944 tanks should not square off against 1951 tanks. A small amount of deliberate imbalance can actually be good for gameplay, by giving those who want it a hard mode. But they've taken it way too far.

She is British, just not a good voice performer. Mainly that lisp and those effort noises/grunts ruin it.

Saints Row 4: Gat out of Hell: Make it so the president has to rescue Johnny Gat from Hell, instead of the other way around.
Kind of mind-boggling that the game goes as far as importing my customized character/voice actor/costume, but uses it for less than 5 minutes. Instead choosing to focus the gameplay on one of the least interesting characters in the whole franchise, while removing everything that has to do with customization and costumes.

Tomb Raider (2013). I'd change the cliche writing to something more appropriate. I would NOT use every male character in the game as some form of sacrificial offering to Lara, to save her life and push her towards being a stronger woman. Seriously the number of men in that game that die so that "You can do it Lara!" can happen in the arc is just silly. So silly in fact, that one of the other characters points out that lots of men seem to die around her.

I would also not take control away from the player at some of the key story points. The biggest example is when Lara is running to try and rescue a downed pilot from a helicopter/plane, I forget which. Right before you get to him, you are climbing up a ramp, and as you top the ramp, you see the BACK of a badguy with a shield. Now, this was not the first time you encounter this enemy type. I had in fact, killed several of them by this point. And I had a perfectly clear shot at him, as he had no idea Lara was there. I could've shot him, and rescued the pilot. But noooo, the game instead decides to turn it into a cutscene, where for no damn reason Lara just stands there and watches for several seconds, as the badguy slowly walks up to the pilot and kills him. THEN she reacts Seriously game? Seriously? Kiss my ass. I could have easily saved that guy, but no, another person has to die, to pave the way for Lara's heroic rebirth. Pssh, please.

I would remove the tomb raiding aspect of the game. Sorry, but in a survival situation like she was in, nobody would take the time to go spelunking and exploring simply to see what ruins are there. In the followup game, where she's actually going out to explore ruins she heard about, fine. But being shipwrecked on an island, with several loved ones' lives in danger? No, it totally breaks the narrative to have her spend time with those platforming puzzles, just to find some trinket. Save your best friend damnit! Her life is in your hands! Don't waste time!

Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker:

I'd give that game a working right thumb stick to control the camera. Honestly, right now, that's the only thing preventing me from playing this game. How does anyone play a game where you have to take your thumb off of the left thumb stick in order to either move the camera or perform face-button actions? It's crazy.

Blazblue (all of them):
Make the characters talk slightly less. I don't dislike feature itself. It gives the characters, character. Still, I think they do it too much. Write in a code to keep them from repeating the same lines when spamming attacks.

I don't even play that game, but I'd happily support the change, since changing the game in such a way would imply that there exists a way to change the nature of online communities.

Tomb Raider (2013), The whole concept. A game that is meant to be about Lara and films every death like a porno films a cumshot. Its a snuff film and the entire animation department at Crystal Dynamics where clearly jacking off to it. Not to mention Rhianna Pratchett's saying she will 'fix' the character as it was so broken before. Also Indiana Jones did it because it was his job , not because he was help captive by a group or raping bandits, but Lara has to.

See with all the hullabaloo around Quiet from MGSV, its silly and stupid, but you want real disservice to female characters ing aming there's Samus in Other M and Lara in the reboot.
