Does anyone else think this could be quite a cool idea? You'd be able to enter their game and battle them on a route or something.

Either that or something like mind-jacking an NPC so you get to control them and fight your friend. I think it could be pretty awesome.

Yes please. I like the idea of mindjacking more, being able to take an NPC and fight them. It means you are balanced in terms of your abilities. (So you don't use a level 100 team to invade somebody who has just started) and it means they get a tougher fight, because they are against you rather than the infamous Pokemon AI.

Sound cool, but the target audiences are mostly children. I don't think they will appreciate that kind of "torture".
However putting the permanent death element in a pokemon game sound more interesting [and yes, I know about the unofficial way to play the game like this, but it isn't the same].
But sadly again....children with flip their sh*t upside down and their anger will start crawling under their skin.

I really like this idea. You could impose an invasion limit similar to Dark Souls as well, such as the total level of all Pokemon must be almost equal for both parties.

However, I am saying this having only played Gen 1. I don't know how much has changed.

I would highly advise Gen 6 and Gen 4 (if only for the gen 2 remakes). Its still the same 6 pokemon, 4 moves turn based gameplay but alot of the subtleties have changed and the gameplay is ALOT better. Than gen 1 ever was.

OT I kind of like this idea but maybe have the ability to switch it on or off. Or as someone earlier said let you take control of NPCs.

I believe you, I just don't have the money to blow on a DS just for one game. If I had more money, I would definitely play the newer ones.

Oh, I have played that one on the GameCube too, the one with darkness consumed Pokemon or something? There were 2 Pokemon out at a time for each trainer. I was kind of hoping that they would keep that feature as an option at least.

Ah, Colosseum. Yh double battles are still in and or more often used in multiplayer but most single player battles are still single combat. They also now have triple battles and rotation battles (which ive never played).

If you were to ever get a 3ds gen 6 is imo the best game(s) on there at the moment.

Christ no.
PvP is one of the things I hate the most about playing Pokemon, always about finding the most "perfect" team, feels like you're missing out on half the fun that Pokemon is about.

Also Dark Souls invasions work because even if the person is higher level/ has more gear, so long as you're decently skilled (and the connection works) you can beat them, Pokemon is 80% stat based.

That's probably Pokemon Colosseum (or it's sequel XD:Gale of Darkness) you're thinking of.

As for the 2 per battle thing, you can still do that in the normal games (or even 3v3, though both of those only get used occasionally.)

EDIT: Bah, ninjaed!

OT: I think that Invasion-style PvP would be a bad idea, given who the games are aimed at.

That's pretty much how multi-player currently works in Pokemon.

Absolutely no random invasions. The games are already set up to make fights and trades incredibly easy. They can be done at pretty much any time. There is a world of difference between someone who knows how to properly build a competitive team and those who don't. It wouldn't be fun or fair to drop into some kid who just loves Charizard's game and absolutely curbstomping them with a well built lineup. This is a game made for kids, we don't need Dark Souls' legitimized griefing brought into it.

The problem is that the only thing you could really do in that kind of situation is...challenge the other player to a battle. And correct me if I'm wrong, since I haven't played since Sapphire, but do they not already have a system in place for players to battle one another? =P

I get that it would add an element of randomness, but at the same time it would be pretty easy to turn into a griefing mechanism. Suppose someone's got a roster of 20's and someone with a roster of 40's invades their game, preventing them from doing anything by just decimating them over and over? As SweetShark said: I doubt kids would appreciate that kind of thing.

What's the point? We already have Battle Spot for random battles and GTS AND Wonder Trade for random trades, these are effectively the same thing but without actually letting people run into your game and possibly impede your progression.

However if there was to be an invasion PVP sort of thing then they should TOTALLY JUST BRING BACK THE CAPTURE THE FLAG UNDERGROUND SECRET BASES from gen IV. That was like the funnest Pokemon mini game ever and in a completely separate location from the main 'quest'.

If you have a smartphone you can get the games on that. If you're Iphone based you would need to jailbreak, which not everybody wants to do. But if you are on Android you can download a GBA emulator, and a DS Emulator that work great for games like Pokemon. (I wouldn't play an action game with touch screen emulator buttons)
The DS emulator was a couple of quid as far as I can remember, and totally legal. So long as you only download ROM to games you already own... Right.

There are also various emulators you can download on your PC, though I don't like this, if I'm going to play Pokemon I want to be mobile with it.

Nope, but then I imagine challengers coming up to you asking, "Now...are you a boy, or a girl?" as a sexist but albeit funny mantra.

I'd love to see Pokemon be brought to a more challenging level, so hell yeah sounds good to me.

Nope,nope,nope.

The game is good enough as is currently, people usually ping to ask if they can battle and that's good enough, invading their world with intent to battle and curb stomp them is not the spirit/idea of pokemon, at least not to many anyway, it's about collecting, adventuring, puzzle solving and beating gym leaders and NPC's.

besides it's mostly bought by children so really the idea itself would go against that target demographic really badly.

I don't like the Souls series at all but they can stay just where they are.

You could technically do that with Black and White (as well as the sequels) through the use of the Entralink but it was through local wireless only and you could only use about 3 Pokemon in a flat battle. The Entralink and pass powers would have been way better if you could do them online.

And I know only one person actually suggested it but Perma-Death sounds absolutely terrible for Pokemon.

Nah. Majority of worlds would have non-super trained pokemon fighting invaders with obviously super trained pokemon - invaders would win every single invasion and people would just turn wifi off.
