If you could live in any other time period what would it be and why?

Early imperial Rome, a soldier serving in the Baltics most likely, that would be badass

I'd like to go back to the time of Jesus. Witness a 'miracle' with my own eyes. Then i'd know.

Although, anytime with socially acceptable slutty hot women would also be good (Caligula was freaky naughty).
Actually going back to the time of Jesus might be cool (I mean xcpt for the whole Roman oppression thing).

Being a woman, going back into the past would be rather lame. I have no desire to stay at home making babies or to give up my rights.

If I were a man I'd say ancient greece, where I could be a respected artisan. Or something.

The Roman Empire never stretched to the Baltics.

Also, this thread seems eerily familiar [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.76350?page=1].....

The problem with the past is that our history books only covered the interesting parts. Peasants would have just talked about the royal family and saucy puppet shows like we talk about Paris Hilton and reality TV. I don't think living there would be any more interesting - it'd only be dirtier.

Sure, we have problems now, but 20, 50 and even 200 years ago we had different sets of problems, and personally I prefer the compromises and perks that come with living in the current era. Having higher education and easy access to elaborate works of fiction is a big plus for me - so is living past the age of forty.

"I'd like to live in the time before the american war for independance. But then, I'd also like to assist the british in that particular war, because I'm 85% convinced that the world would be a much, much better place if america still had to run all its decisions past england first."

You're kidding, right? The Europeans caused way more shit than the Americans ever did. A lot of countries would be worse off today if America didn't sever it's ties with the British government, creating a Federal government. I'd take the somewhat flawed nation state over a highly centralized colonial government any day.

Medieval ages when skill with a blade could decide your living.
Wasn't it more your lineage?

Anyways, I would love to see ancient China or Feudal Japan. Both countries are already so beautiful, but I would love to see them 'undeveloped'.

Plus I really want an excuse to wear one of those wide, round hats. Can't think of the name...but they are so sweet.

I'd only back track a week or two at most so i could win the lottery and shut all my family/friends up with their incessant whining at me not having a job.

Viking. Once I die I go to Asgard, eat as much as I want, drink as much as I want, sleep as long as I want and most importantly fight whenever I want.

Actually, that sounds like a good idea, go back to the time around the American Revolution and give them all the important modern technologies we have, including military technology, just to see what happens.
