Fallout because I hate the way the world is running right now. I would be with my 3 best friends and we would go on Super Duper Mart runs. Maybe if we hit a cap mine we would establish our own city and overshadow Three dog's radio station with our Heavy Metal Forever station, we would put on Metallica, Maiden and the sort and would welcome every headbanger ghoul or not.
...Win

I myself would either do Fallout or Oblivion. Mainly because with most games there isn't much to explore, Fallout and Oblivion lets you just screw around while not doing quests, total freedom.

Harry Potter one... but it'd only be awesome if I could learn magic, not be a damn muggle.
Somebody finally figured it out.
You wouldn't know fucking Harry Potter and you wouldn't have any fucking powers, it would just be you in a another place, you wouldn't stop being such a retarded failure.

God damn, there's a reason why people who want to live in the Harryverse are mocked of on a daily basis...
...But it's mainly My Immortal not what I was just talking about.

But only if I were a Space Marine. Otherwise I would probably die fastly.
I ALMOST said 40k, but then I remembered that actually it's a terrible place. At the beginning of all the novels it's described as the most brutal regime imaginable, and the Imperium is the good guys. So I'm going to have to say Warhammer 30K, or actually 29K as I'd hate to be caught up in the Horus Heresy. Before the great Heresy the Emperor was walking about and kicking ass, and I would be less likely to be executed for Heresy by trying to overclock my Cogitator.

Either the SG1 universe, hang out with O'niell and the team, kill some G'ould and back to the SGC in time for dinner or the Old Kingdom from the Old Kingdom Trilogy by Garth Nix. Become a necromancer/wall builder type and make guns that work and fire charter mark inscribed bullets that decimate free magic creatures and the undead. It would be great fun.
Ooohh, i just had a thought. The 40k universe. I would of course have to be a member of the inquisition and with my divine remit travel the galaxy and execute heretics in his name.

Heh I must be more peaceful than most of you guys... I would have picked Harvest Moon. Peaceful, easy life, where everyone is just falling over themselves to help you out.

Harry Potter would be good too though. I get an undescribable 'weird feeling' too, when i read the later books and watch the movies. I wonder if its the same feeling?

I can't believe this thread reached the second page without anyone mentioning Discworld. Of course, you need to be a wizard/witch to have all the fun, chat with Death and have awesome parties at the Unseen University.

Close second for me would be... any cyberpunk world in which people don't die like animals, really. It's like the real world, but with more internet (and sometimes magic).

...damn, that was going to be my ironic choice. Um, the world form Kafka's "The Trial?" That's worse, yes?

I would probably have to say that I would like to live in one of The Legend of Zelda games, particularly in Wind Waker. Mainly because I would be living on a cool tropical island where I could soak up the rays and if I had a boat I could go fishing anytime I want. It would be a simple life but I would love to just get away from all of the worries. Plus on Outset Island there is even is an extra house which no one lives in, so I won't have to worry about building a house

Same, but only if I got to be a wizard, and then primarily just so I could use the accio spell for just about everything... Also Fallout 3 world would be kinda fun, in a grueling, tough, bleak, dangerous, not fun sorta way.

Dude, you get an island with a house, your own butler and a pool, complete with lawn chair and fruity drinks, and everything, or did you not do that side quest?

Fallout. As long as I am either a main character or a required character, that way I can't die. Plus, what's more fun than hunting down mutants with a sniper rifle in the ruins of DC?
Being a member of the Enclave in the wasteland, with a realistic ending where Paladins with assault rifles don't kill Enclave Soldiers.
I love the Enclave's equipment, and after slaughtering them from a mile away with my trusty rifle, I gladly scavenge their camps, but I would not enjoy taking orders from a computer screen. Plus, Enclave troops are led by bigots. I am a self-proclaimed Ghoul's rights activist.
You help Ghouls, ha! I shoot them and most wastelanders infact, cos there all mutants.

There're redeads in the basement though.

I'd say Warhammer 40,000 but then I remembered that I don't like being shot.
So I'd like to be a Metrocop. Cool uniform, you get to administer beatings, and you'll be blissfully unaware that the bespecled mute with surprising skill with firearms is about to shoot the explosive barrel your standing next to.

Give me the universe of burnout, nothing but racing, crashing, and good music.

They made my adulthood! :p

OT, I would like to live in the world of Simon R Green's Deathstalker. That series was awesome, brutal at times but to use swords more than guns and the things possible are just nuts.

Scary but nuts.

I was beginning to despair, reading the responses, and not seeing any Discworld fans. Although, you could still join the watch, or become a student at UU, or get a job as a catalogist of B.S. Johnson's various and diverse inventions, hopefully with quite an insurance policy that includes 'any incident involving one Bergholt Stutley's Inventions'.

But on the whole I would love to live in Ankh-Morpork, a city in which I respect the policies while admiring the simplicity of the system. Pay a fee, and you're protected from a whole manner of things. It's a place where weird shit has to be not just tolerated, but expected, and rolled with as if it was all planned out. My kind of place.

Yeah, I know how nerdy that sounds, but
1) you never need to worry about being poor
2) they have the best health care system imaginable
3) you can explore strange new worlds
4) they have cool shit in space!
What they said.

I would go with the world in Full Metal Alchemist. Its seems a decent enough place where people get power by actually working for it rather then just being given it.

I used to daydream incessantly about that.

I think I'd prefer the Crescent City [Kathleen A. Goonan] universe.
Lots of nanotechnology. I like nanotechnology.
