and I think it's silly to keep fighting over something that happened 2000 years ago

Religion. I don't really care which. Hell, I'd go athiest if it would make everyone happy.
Without religious ideals, the world would be a much easier place to live in, no? No Palistinian/Israelite conflict, no Chinese purging of the monks, etc. Material assets started a few wars, but it's the proximate cause of recent conflicts (excluding North Korea). It won't fix all of our problems, but I think it'd be the one which would benifit us the most.
