In all seriousness, probably Ninetails. 'Cause it's so freaking awesome. And it would be unlikely I'd have to worry about it dying or anything.
Though I've got so many favourites it's difficult to choose; mostly from the Fire/Steel/Dragon types.

I'm not a big pokemon fan, I'd prefer the series to be darker and edgier to more closely resemble glorified cock fights. And there better be some trainer fatalities, because when you have fucked up magical animals shooting lightning bolts and razor sharp darts in big clouds in general direction of other people, they better get hurt for realism's sake.
But, to be serious, if you could own one pokemon in real life, of course the best choice would be one of the more powerful ones that aren't just cutesy pets that fart lightning and repeat the same "catchphrase". Although they all do the latter, I guess.
Didn't they have some magical pokemon that could totally manipulate reality and stuff? MewTwo or something? Because that would be a good investment.

Squirtle so I could raise it up to be the awesomeness that is Blastoise! Has always been my favorite starter pokemon and surfing around would be nice.
