I'm with this guy. Now if only the portals could hop dimensions or time.

Yeah something like that.
I was about to make a million statements from the core of my physics-major heart, but then I realized it's troll-face so I won't even bother. XD

OT: I would place a portal between my workplace at the physics research labs and the dining center.

My house and my girlfriend's house.

Either that or Area 51 and somewhere close to here.

1. One portal in New York (Times Square?)
2. One portal in London (Picadilly Circus?)
3. ???
4. Profit

And by ??? I mean charge people to use it thereby making a fortune.

Uhm, I'm going to go with the Moon and properly prepared pressure vessel, then I can get in on some of those sweet NASA dollars.

I'm going to be boring and say my house and uni, saving me 4 hours of traveling a day.

That's 4 hours of grueling grinding I could do, every day!

Mars and a secure area on Earth that would allow countries to travel to Mars. Bonus: Somehow redirect pollution from a nearby coal plant and it'll help terraform Mars!

Alternatively, a field near my house and some corner of campus: 60 - 70 minute journey reduced to a 6 - 7 minute journey! :D

On the other hand, I'd have a portal gun, so I'd just continually dick around with it.

EDIT - I'd have to place the two portals on walls facing a slope though, otherwise the area around it would flood whenever it rains!

Well, being pragmatic, I'd put one extremely high up, then one directly beneath it at ground level. Now, by breaking the laws of energy conservation, we have infinite potential energy, and shall build generators around it.

[sub]Problem, entropy?[/sub]
Entropy wouldn't be a problem with the perpetual motion device itself. But, if you keep adding more and more energy to the universe it will increase the speed at which we reach heat death.

See portals bring Armageddon I knew valve was evil.

Except your plan would mean you'd have to leave the country first.
Uh no, he means the country; like a rural area where's there's no one around for miles.

OT: I'd put one on a plank of wood and one in my room at home. That way whenever I go somewhere(vacation, back to school, etc) I wouldn't have pile all my crap in the car and once there I'd have a speedy means to move between the two places should I need anything from the house.
