If you could redo a game what would it be?

Bioshock. The gameplay should have been more similar to Infinite than System Shock. It would have been fine like System Shock 2 if it had tried to keep the same style by not focusing on combat. Instead, it made the combat feel clunky and terrible. Also, it needed less silent protagonist and more of a current story instead of everything being told from the past by recordings, or through almost EVERYONE on a sound system.

Mass Effect 2. Cut out Cerberus while it's not too late. And fix the levelling system, because by God, that thing was a mockery of RPG mechanics.
Take out the leveling system altogether from the first game instead. Because that game needed to feel more like a shooter instead of trying to be an RPG.

I'd redo Brink for better map design, balance, weapon design, balance and variances of weapon usefulness, and better and more coherent storyline for single player.

I'd redo Dark Souls 2 to be less shit by comparison to the first. I'd also change it to not be a sequel and instead be a standalone with it's own lore and not trying to leech off of Dark Souls 1, using it as crutches for it's own lore and world instead of fleshing out it's own and fucking up previous lore.

I'd redo Halo 3 to kill off Master Chief and Cortana. I'd subsequently changed Halo 4 to be more interesting and have Elite/Spartan co-op against a resurgent, Hunter led force of new alien alliances attacking the shakey interstellar set up trying to happen. Then i'd throw in a few Forerunner skins for a third force in multiplayer and set up some crazy shit to happen in 5.

I'd redo Dead Space 2 to have a new protagonist, and let Isaac Clarke not get a shitty story, then let him come back in three as a badass with 2-3 man co-op.

I'd redo Splinter Cell Blacklist to have Sam be the new Lambert, and Kestrel/Briggs go ninja across the world.

I'd redo the latest Thief to not be shit.

I'd redo Killzone Shadowfall to be from the Helghast perspective and not them being laughably evil half the time.

I'd redo .hack//G.U. episode 3 to not commit murder on Haseo's character. Needed more snark.

I'd redo Lost Planet 2 for more open world monster/mech battles of fucking awesome.

I'd redo FFXIII and slow down the pacing of the story a bit, so that way we have time to get to know the characters and feel stronger about the hooks the game later throws at us. Honestly, FFXIII's world and characters weren't TERRIBLE, everything just happened too quickly to call any development on any character's part 'interesting.' How can a child go from wanting to murder someone to becoming his best buddy literally over night? Steiner hated Zidane far less than wanting to kill him, but over the course of an entire game, they sort of meet at this mutual level of respect. That's far more believable than how Snow and Hope's relationship panned out, and that's mostly because everything was rushed.

That's how everything in FFXIII felt, even the combat system. Obviously adjustments would need to be made for that as well.

If I had a choice I would actually ask for remake of

Project Firestart

from Commodore 64 but not just by anyone but by one of masters of Survival Horror as this game is one of first if not first game that fits "Survival Horror" like a tailored suit.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

For starters, it would actually have something to do with The Sands of Time trilogy outside of just have the same Prince and a couple references. It was a decent idea to place it into the five year break between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within, but also trying to make it a remake not only made it feel more disconnected from the events of the past games and made it feel like a cash-in but it also left the story opening up more plot holes than closing. For instance, they sort of imply that the medallion The Prince has in Warrior Within came from a relic he found in The Forgotten Sands, but that makes absolutely no sense when it is clear the medallion in Warrior Within has connections to The Island of Time, something that the relic in The Forgotten Sands has absolutely no connection to. Personally, I would make the story actually be able The Prince's decent into his hardened state during Warrior Within and actually make it about everything he endured from The Dahaka during that period.

Also, I would make the combat more like the older games but just allow the powers to give it more depth, similar to how the powers functioned to add more to the platforming and puzzles. From a gameplay perspective, the combat was by far the worst aspect of it, and the game actually would have been much better than just average if they had actually given us a decent combat system like the old games.
Wait wait wait! Wasn't the medallion originally Farah's? In Sands of Time, it is more or less outright stated that it's the relics from the Island of Time (the Dagger, the Medallion and the Staff, respectively) is what keeps the the Prince, Farah and the Vizier from turning into the sand-zombie-things. Hell, that rationale was the reason why, upon stealing the Dagger from the Prince, Farah left her medallion with him so that it would still protect him, which he carried back in time at the end of the game (just like the Dagger).

Why would they change that? It is completely self-consistent from beginning to end, so why would they try to ret-con it?

Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.

I'd have an editor go over the script again, and let the damn thing FINISH this time around. There's so much potential in the game... tragically ruined by rushing it through QA...

AGREED. Then we could have kept Michael Ironside as the voice of Sam, since he wouldn't have been doing any mo-cap.

New 'n Tasty: Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

- Get rid of about half the lighting in Rupture Farms. Seriously, that place has too much bloom assaulting your eyes. Also remove the highlights around the levers and hatches. It makes the place look more like a lab rather than the brown rusted, blood caked slaughter house it's supposed to be.

- Implement proper death animations. None of this rag doll physics and limp explosions.

- Reduce the number of mudokons per area. Just adding more doesn't do anything except make you feel like you're sweeping them up with a broom. It takes away all your responsibility and actually removes a lot of their personality despite the more varied dialoge.

- Give the slogs their old bark back and make them yelp when they get killed.

- And most importantly, remove that god awful fucking song from the end credits. Holy shit!

It was never specifically stated, but the game presents the relic/medallion the same way it does in Warrior Within (even giving The Prince an almost-identical outfit) and even has it fit into a machine somewhat reminiscent of the life upgrade machines in Warrior Within. The attempts to connect the events of The Forgotten Sands, which are due to a long-standing war with the djinn, to the events of The Sands of Time trilogy only get worse when it is revealed that the life upgrades in The Sands of Time were actually just a dwelling place for one of the djinn. Heck, they even hint that part of The Prince's change between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within was due to the events of The Forgotten Sands (rather than his constant struggle with The Dahaka as mentioned explicitly in The Two Thrones), and it even hints that his struggling relationship with his father, which was mentioned briefly in The Two Thrones, was also due to the events of The Forgotten Sands rather than how the original trilogy sort of implies that it might have been due to his attitude and actions prior to him searching for The Island of Time.

Overall, none of it is explicitly stated, but the fact that they wanted the game to fill in some of what happened between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within makes it seem like they were trying to explain things that, at least to them, wasn't explained well enough (e.g. they seemed to completely forget that Farah left her necklace for The Prince, which he later turned into the medallion). The fact that they keep making references to plot points and scenes from the trilogy doesn't help their case.

hmm, if we are implying 'redo' as in release the game again then that answer is clear to me.

E.V.O Search for Eden from the Super Nintendo. It always was and still to this day is one of my favorite games to play. Donno, maybe give it a nice graphics polish, but keep the core mechanics of the story and the way you can 'evolve' your creature. Yes I know theres Spore...etc etc, but they just all arent the same. It was just a very enjoyable and fun game in my opinion.

Now if we go for 'redo' as in..fix the crap they messed up, Digimon World 2 and 3. Part 1 was amazing, was a new type of game and I personally havent seen anything like it since then. The fix would be easy to be fully honest, get rid of what they did with 2 and 3 and keep the base of part 1 there, update the graphics a bit, give more monsters to turn into, new world/plot.. (fix some of those bugs from part 1..for instance not being able to beat the last boss seeing as the mountain wouldnt allow entrance...until you start a new game and go through it again (which I really didnt mind too much).)

Xenogears and Secret of Mana, both of which were by the producer's own admission rushed out the door with over a third of their content unfinished, and still became classics despite those gaps. Mana could also use a rebalancing of magic and adjustment of hit detection, and maybe a bonus dungeon or two for both.
Well I wasn't expecting to be ninja'd on Secret of Mana, but yeah. Exactly that.
The game is a classic, a fairly influential part of my childhood (and one of my favorites) but it's quite unfinished.

Xenogears...is just fucking WEIRD in how it's unfinished. Starting on the 2nd disc, there's a whole slew of segments that break the "Show, don't tell" rule directly with tons of exposition dumps; letting the player play the highlights at most since so much content was left unfinished.

Rescue Mission: Valkyria Chronicles.

It wouldn't be easy, but I'd do my damnest to wash away the idiotic grime that covers a very decent game. Perhaps give some of the turn-based mechanics a bit of a tweak, but the mechanical side works fine. Those are the least of the game's problems.

The setting, story and above all the writing is where the excavators are needed, though. That game really makes me sad, because there are a few glimpses of an interesting story buried beneath so much dump, underdeveloped and shallow "drama". It's as if someone started making a lovely little painting, went away for a smoke break and someone smeared their Naruto fanart over the canvas.
So many characters are in either desperate need for some beefing-up or toning down, and the dialogue is beyond repair. Even if the story and setting is in leaning heavily into the simple-but-earnest, it must be able to take it slightly more in-depth than sodding Tellytubbies.

Another thing that implies the lost potential is the art. The art design and direction is fantastic, at least for the most part. A VC rescue attempt would involve toning down the more stupid design choices (above all, the silly haircuts. I know they're essentially well-equipped anime Volkssturm, but still!) and altering the colour hues a bit, but the art is one of the parts that still works.

I... I really wish I could realistically do this, or that there was some kind of game rescue patrol. Valkyria Chronicles really is a great game inside a dumb casing wanting to come out. It won't happen, but at least we can dream.

Maybe I should make me own light WW2 turnbased tactics game, with hookers and blackjack.

Need for Speed Undercover: put a more coherent story, put more vibrant graphics, make a more competent AI, more Jobs, less bonkers physics.

If by re-do you mean remake then I'm going to have to say Muramasa Rebirth since it's the game I'm trying to play now and I want to like it so bad but just can't get into it. It's a beautiful game with a cool concept that feels totally hamstrung by it's control system. I can only imagine this is due to it's system of origin.

Mass Effect 3. All the way.
make it not absolute shit.

actually acknowledge all of the choices that were made in the first two games.
not write all the characters like they're self parodies of them selves.

make the controls just slightly less retarded than putting 6 commands on the A button.
and at the end of the game instead of talking to the starchild you board Harbinger, and inside Harbinger there's just Mac Walters. and you light him on fire and laugh while he burns to death and that's how you beat the game.

Game of the year right there.

You mean 'redo' as in have it re-made and not be a steaming pile of crap? FEAR 3. I actually liked the first 2 games and was disappointed the the finale accomplished absolutely nothing. Those games deserved a more substantial wrap up to the series :(

Alpha Protocol. Up the production values, iron out the bugs, improve enemy AI and balance things out so all playstyles become viable and fun.

Valkyria Chronicles 2. Get rid of the school comedy stuff. It contrasts really jarringly with the whole civil war thing. I'd also redo the sales of the first game so shitloads of people bought it. That way the sequels would've been proper full console games rather the scaled down portable ones we got. Nothing wrong with that and the PSP games added some substantial gameplay improvements to the formula, but their scope just feels so much smaller compared to the original.

Fun little fact: when you're playing Gameboy Camera, sometimes you get... something. If you're scared of idiots in make up, loud noises, or are just jumpy, or at work, I wouldn't click that YouTUBE link, by the way. Well, you get this terrifying thing. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIkGS_a97A4].

If you watched that, that shit's in a children's game. With juggling minigames, Space Invaders, and simplistic image editing. Seriously, look up "gameboy camera", and you'll get these unholy abominations.

It doesn't seem like much... but if I could, I would get rid of those faces just before the video game's release. That's a certain type of of scary, pure evilness, and whoever put these things in the game and somehow got it past censor boards and the dev team, who knew about them... you get the point. Creepy, weird, unsettling.
