If you had a Death Note how would you use it?

I was just thinking the same thing. I would see to it that Fred and Shirley died in a very "God did it" kind of way. On second thought, that doesn't feel justified. They are only expressing free speech, and indoctrinating only a tiny community's worth of children (as much as I feel it's child abuse) is not worth an untried death sentence.

I would, however, use the Deathnote on the more dangerous and devastating people. The heads of al Qaeda, for instance. Or maybe a terribly corrupt politician...no, I don't mean someone who accepts bribes or rigs voting stations. I mean rulers who kill or abuse their own citizens.

"And down goes the entire Westboro Baptist Church and the Phelps family, all of them suddenly hit bya heart attack."
Oh, and Gaddafi's next.

Oh, I see what you did there.

Like Light did, probably, except he got too deluded and personal with it. Strike down criminals exclusively.

As I am currently? I would start copying the phone book. Getting dumped does weird things to a man.

I'd do what Light does in the anime/manga except that I wouldn't be an idiot, and when I think the police are onto me I'd stop using it completely, hide it where they can't find it, and protest innocence. No evidence of how I did it means no conviction, and then I can carry on when the heat is off. No need for any stupid mindgames with L or whatever, even if it does provide entertainment. There was simply no need for any of that, but Light had to show off his apparent mental prowess which led to his own downfall...

Say I didn't know the name of the person I want to kill. If I write the name of someone I do know, like "Joe Blogs dies at x-o'clock as a result of a gas leak", knowing that he will be in the same room as my nemesis at that time (they're having a meeting, for example), would I circumvent the rules?

But yeah, if I had one, it would essentially be the apocalypse.

Edit: and I've just discovered another reason not to get facebook!

Edit 2: come on, it would be genuinely impossible to get caught. You wouldn't even need to be clever about it. The only reason L suspected Light to begin with was because they knew the murderer had to have access to classified files somehow. They'd never be able to trace indiscriminate murder. Besides, they're far more likely to start searching for an undiscovered disease rather than murder suspects. That entire anime was nonsense.

Not in a million years, first of all I'm not nearly clever enough to get away with it for any amount of time, secondly I don't think any crime deserves the death penalty. I would still keep it for emergencies, but I wouldn't use it except in hostage situations or something of the like.

Destroy it. It's a goddamn Pandora's Box. Also, I like to think that I'm above senseless, cold-blooded, impersonal murder.

I wouild write my name in it, putting a time of death 30 years in the future. Because my name has been written down, it cancels out other people from being able to wwrite my name in their deathnotes ... then I would make the Death God Eyes deal, then hunt down all the other people wi9th deathnotes.

Kill them, take their books, and burn them all ...
I'm guessing you never watched the series. You just killed yourself...
-If you write, "die of disease" with a specific disease's name and the person's time of death, there must be a sufficient amount of time for the disease to progress. If the set time is too tight, the victim will die of a heart attack after 6 minutes and 40 seconds after completing the Death Note.
-If you write, "die of disease" for the cause of death, but only write a specific time of death without the actual name of disease, the human will die from an adequate disease. But the Death Note can only operate within 23 days (in the human calendar). This is called the 23-day rule.
-An individual with the eye power of a god of death can tell the name and life span of other humans by looking at that person?s face. By possessing the Death Note, an individual gains the ability to kill, and stops being a victim. From this point, a person with the Death Note cannot see the life span of other Death Note owners, but they will not be able to see his/her own life span.

After picking up the Death Note off the ground, most likely after PaulH just killed themselves, I would use the Death Note for my own means. I would keep it simple and random. The reason Light failed is because he was consumed by arrogance and pride.

I'd hide it, and only keep it so I can have an invisible pal to chat with, and ask to get answers for me during exams. :p

And if that ever gets tiresome (or I decide I don't want a creepy ghost thing staring at me if I ever sleep with anyone), I'd burn it.

The only time I'd use it is if there was some guy who was holding the world hostage, about to blow it all up. Then I'd make him get struck by lightning, or have his device backfire and kill only him.

I watched Death Note man.

Even when you win, you don't win.
The difference here is that there is almost a 0% chance you can get caught in our world. Even if you were till use it to kill every single person you knew - it would be hard for a court to get you on no evidence.

Okay, but let's pretend you do use it. They stop releasing information about all criminals.
You're either fucked or have to start digging somehow, at which point you become traceable. Even if they can't find your notebook, for the safety of the world they can do whatever the fuck they want with you.

I don't think that thinking along the lines of "proving my guilt" really applies here; if it came to something like that they wouldn't give two shits about your rights and whatnot. They'd lock you up, see that the killing has stopped, and it's good enough for you to be imprisoned forever.

Well, considering there is quite a bit of hinting towards light becoming a shinigami at the end of the series, I would pretty much do a similar thing to him, but only killing those who have raped or murdered someone. (no purse snatchers or police officers just trying to do their jobs. also, I would make it more spectacular than "Heart attack" I would go full on spontaneous combustion on their asses. I think that if criminals started dying from randomly catching on fire, I don't think police would be trying to catch him. most people would assume it's god casting his "holy fire" upon the evildoers, or something.

Are you a little bit silly? Only 30 years in the future? You could write even more into the future! Personally, I'd put it 1000+ years in the future if it cancels any other possible deaths :3

I would start killing evil people in hilarious ways.

For example:
*insert name of current top terrorist person here* Run through the spleen with a toothpick.

1. Who said I would only kill criminals?

2. When unexplainable deaths occur in isolated places, people begin searching for chemicals/ diseases, not murderers.

3. It would by no means be "good enough" for me to be imprisoned forever. That would be a massive infringement of human rights based on some crackpot's superstitious garbage. No one would stand for it. It could easily be a set-up or just coincidence.

I wouldn't. I would burn it. I'm no God, and I have no right to say it's someone's time to die.

Well do you remember the other rule?

The user of the Death Note can go to neither Heaven nor Hell.
I'm not sold on that.
This. However, without that catch, I'd aim to cut Earth's population by about 75%, or at least keep going until I run out of pages.
