Burn it.
I have no right to play God. I cannot bring myself to kill another human being due to my own values or morals.
To me, there is no justification for murder using Death Note.

If I was acting on orders from a superior or in self-defense, it'd be different, but I would never use the Death Note, especially not on a civilian.

"Michael Bay"

And I'd make it slow and agonizing. I'd spend a week just plotting the most painful and humiliating way to annihilate him. My only regret would come from the knowledge that no matter how torturous I make his demise, death will eventually deliver him to peaceful oblivion.

After that, I'd probably kill off all the North American government, but Bay, he's first.

The death note represents ultimate power over the lives of the people who names and faces you possess. However without ultimate knowledge you are bound to suffer dire repercussions from using the notebook. In other words recklessly killing people without knowing the full story behind their situation can and will lead to unexpected outcomes. Light failed because Near knew something he did not. Burn the book.

I see what you did there.

OT:I would only hold on to it,possibly to threaten others. Going to technically-purgatory because I wanna BRING JUSTICE INTO THE WORLD is stupid.

Well my best friend was robbed today, i felt i had to share that. About how to use it i would kill lesser criminals and bigger ones wich are almost everywhere in my country finding their name's and pictures is not a problem (the bastards have Facebook) and well id just write "Killed in gun fight" no one would realise. And if you think im selfish or someting just let me know and ill tell you how many people dies arround here these days. This hole situation has gotten to me really bad this year and the last one, and i just cant take it.

I'd use it and have a damn good time doing so. I saw someone asking where you'd draw the line? Why would there be a line for me anymore?
Not only that, but you forget that with the Death Note comes an unseen and fascinating ally. A Shinigami, right?
Can you imagine the fun you could have by killing off all those who piss you off to the insane chucklings of an amoral entity that was wondering how much fun it'd have on our world?

To coin a phrase; 'I love the smell of death notes in the morning. It smells like... adventure!'
Gotta admit reading this was pretty wicked.

Wow. Eight pages in twelve hours. There really is something about the Deathnote that is incredibly fascinating to people, isn't there? It poses the key moral question: who are you in the dark, anonymous and beyond consequence? In real life, there isn't likely to be an L to figure almost everything out within a couple weeks.

There's also the terrible irony that the Deathnote provides no protection or worldly power. You can't openly claim it's power without putting yourself at terrible risk. If Light had succeeded at making himself a ruler, he'd've face endless threats and attempted assassinations.

Honestly, I don't know what I'd do. There are people in this world that almost everyone would be happy to be rid of. But at the same time, there's no sharp line between evil and normal. There's no magic body count were you can say "yep, no one else needs killing". The very act of using this thing sets up an inbalance, you either have to accept yourself as a mass murderer (and thus need killing yourself), or claim some sort of divine immunity, piling up excuses like Light did, justifying an ever-lower bar for it's use. I like to think I wouldn't use it.

I'd get the Shinigami eyes, first of all. I really don't need half of my life, anyway, and it'd be really cool to see how long it'll be before someone dies. The name thing would be fun to use to screw with people.

After the eyes, I'd totally use it. I wouldn't go to either heaven or hell, but a lot of people here seem to be missing the fact that, in the world with the Death Note, there is no heaven or hell, so it wouldn't make a difference. I'd use it for personal gain, to get whatever I want. I'd make most of my victims die painlessly in their sleep. The conditions of death wouldn't be cruel; for example, Stephanie Meyer would make a public apology for starting this whole Twilight craze after realizing that her books were terrible. Then, she'd donate all of the profits to charity organizations. Satisfied and happy with her deeds, she'd die painlessly in her sleep a few days later.

Of course, this comes with the same moral dilemma as with the Geth in Mass Effect 2: is it morally sound to control someone's thoughts in order to MAKE them happy? Well, in this context, I think it wouldn't matter. Meyer would die anyway; I might as well make her feel good about herself. Even if this is something that she wouldn't do normally, she wouldn't realize. She wouldn't know. To her, these would be actions that she did of her own accord, and she'd feel truly happy about it.

Am I a monster? Probably. All I know it that I would enjoy having a Death Note quite a bit. Hello, population control!

use it as toilet paper. I'd much rather have a you-had-it-coming note karmic payback for all HAHAHAHAHA!. If I had to use it I would use it on dying kids/old people by having their dreams fulfilled and then dying in their sleep.

since i believe my life has no purpose or aim, i would create an aim. i don't wish to be made a god, i would become a demonic mastermind, pulling strings killing those who deserve it and i wish to only bring fear and death to a world that has gone too long without. sometimes they may deserve it, sometimes they may not that is solely for me to decide. with each death i would find a way to leave them all with a simple word or marking knowing that it is me while i remain nameless and faceless. so when i die, i will fade into darkness the world never knowing of my name but only of the swath of pain, death, war, and destruction in my wake.
