I had fun once, it was awful.

I keep comparing it to smashbros and it's looks like crap. Smashbros isn't the game I care about deep mechanics in it, you play with a few friends to kill some time then do something else. But it has a nice appeal thanks to the Nintendo characters. This is just blegh when it comes to characters and design. It has some kiddie characters and some dark gritty characters and doesn't have a consistent tone. Not to mention half the characters are so unappealing they made me not want to play the original games they were in.

I like it ^_^

except for a few broken/ OP characters (sackboy, kratos and cole)
I'm just curious on how you feel kratos, sackboy and Cole are broken?

Sackboy is ok until he gets his level 3 power attack. Its area of effect is quite large and can be aimed easily! XD

I feel kratos has too much reach with his flail things, yes its part of his character but its a little unfair.

Particulary evil cole can easily just spam ranged attacks and zip around the level quickly.

I'd say they were more overpowered than completely broken, but they still need toning down a bit :p

I played the Beta for a bit, and though it was pretty fun, I thought the control scheme felt sluggish. It seemed that there was no flowing combo attacks at all, though I did like the variety of attacks present, since you have three attack buttons and each will do something different if you press up/down/etc on the control stick when attacking. I also thought the supers were fun and it made things exciting to know that your score depended solely on you and your skills, not swooping in to get the final hit on a weak opponent as the OP mentioned.

Once the price drops to at least $30 I might consider picking it up, and then only really to play during parties and such. Fighters make lousy single player entertainment unless you are practicing with a character.

Spike (Ape Escape)

I didn't know Spike was in it! I friggin LOVE Ape Escape! I'll definitely get it now. Maybe not soon, but eventually. If for no other reason, Spike and Parappa.

Are good Cole/evil Cole like a Zelda/Sheik type thing?

I can't wait to try it out. I got a vita version of the game but my vita isn't with me. As soon as Thursday....

From what I've read, it sounds better than Super Smash gameplay.

I've been coming up with great characters for this game all day, so I'm going to post my ideas here.

1:Vault Boy He's always depicted in different situations and attire, and having him in full 3-D and color would be pretty cool. He could switch appearance based on his moves.

2:Jehuty It's already a melee fighter, and is an exclusive to Playstation. Plus it already has a dash too.

3:prince/Dark Prince The Prince could use the dagger of time, and when he gets that super/hyper thingy he could change into Dark Prince and use his chain-whip. It seems like they put in a detail that makes Cole take damage in water, so they could make him change back when he hits water too.

4. Wanderer A stage featuring colossi including a Phalanx that flies across the screen and does damage to players caught in it's path, and others poking in to do stuff. Plus he has a sword, which would go nicely with Sir Dan, Raiden, and Dante.

Since Yahtzee's Critique of Super Smash Bros. Brawl I really can't enjoy the 'genre', well fighting games in general really.

It looks like I can't play online if I rent it. I don't think I'd get it anyways after seeing the videos.

I tried this game out at a GameStop because I was curious about the end product. I wasn't too thrilled about how uninterested I was about the game, the "Special Move" KO that was the only way to win, pointless stages, and essentially looking like a bunch of Sandbags killing each other with Rest (if you've played SSBM or SSBB, you know what I'm talking about).

I chose to play as Jak, as I was convinced that he would be a "Speed-type" character, which are may favorites, compared to Kratos, who was obviously a "Power-type," Big Daddy was a "Heavy-type," and Pappa Rappa was a "Light-type." The first thing I noticed were the controls: convinced that I was playing SSBB, I tried to press up on the analog stick to jump, but I needed to press X to do that, which cost me a few lives before I realized that. Second, the other face buttons were all designated Light, Mid, and Heavy attacks, each that provided about 4 separate attacks that corresponded with the analog stick. It was okay, but I wasn't what would work so I ended up spamming them until I found some moves that would be helpful. I wasn't able to grab, block/shield, dash or dodge throughout my gameplay, so I'm not sure it they are present.

I also got a hang on the "Super Meter" with builds up by the amount of pain that you dish out or if you collect these blue orbs that tend to fill your meter gradually. The amount of meter you build up allows you to perform various "Super Moves" that allows you to instantly KO any enemies that are caught in it. Jak's Level 1 Special consisted on him opening an Eco Vent (or elevator, I wasn't sure) that causes any enemies near him to be destroyed; his Level 2 Special turned him into Dark Jak and he pounced a short distance to create a shock wave that destroyed anyone caught in the blast. I couldn't get the Level 3 Special because I was being killed by the AI and apparently if you die, you lose some of your Meter. The weapons varied from Hedgehog Grenades to a Hammer from God of War (I think), and I didn't find them to be either helpful or a nuisance.

I ended up winning the match and I was left confused and a little stun. It wasn't bad, but the first thing that came to mind was how much better Super Smash Bros. was compared to this. I'm not taking Brawl or Melee, but the original title on the N64. It can hold its own to this day compared to Playstation All-Stars. That's another issue: how are the new Dante and Raiden from Revengence considered All-Stars if they haven't been released in their own titles yet? For that matter, why aren't Spyro and Crash in the initial roster? Can you imagine if Mario and Yoshi didn't appear in SSB? Bottom line, I tried it and I'm convinced that I won't be buying/playing this anymore.

See, I feel the exact opposite way. SSB seems fun, but the characters don't appeal to me. In this one, however, I DO like the characters, and that gives me an incentive to play it.

Nope, they are separate characters.

I'm actually very happy with how it turned out. The online is a little wonky because of the fact that as a beginner you might be going up against very good players. It does however make you adjust your play style, and I like the point system as well in the timed matches, he who has the most kills doesn't always win.

And characters, oh they did very well with the characters. They don't have generic moves, and they stay true to the games. And seasoned fans of certain characters will recognize the moves as well.

I'm very pleased with it, and I hope for DLC characters in the future. And I am kind of surprised with the crossovers for each of the stages (i.e. Doll Face invading Colombia).

I played the demo and wasn't impressed
(And I'll try and love anything with Cole in it!)

I am waiting for a price drop then I may give it a go most of the characters dont appeal to me at the moment I suppose Nariko would be the one I would try first but really I am waiting for characters like Lara Croft, Crash Bandicoot and Cloud Strife you know characters that defined the early Playstations existence especially the first two they were the closest characters to mascots Sony has ever had they should be here even if they are not exclusive or in Laras case werent to begin with.

Once it goes for 10 pounds or so I may give it a shot I have enough to play to keep me busy for a long time, I havent even got around to playing Skyrim yet. Also no Spyro? I mean I dont really care for Spyro but wasnt that sonys answer to Mario in the platforming stakes at one point and I think the character would fit this game well.

I just have to know why a Big Daddy is a playable character? Bioshock was never a playstation exclusive.

It isn't perfect, I still think Smash Bros Melee is a better game, (I enjoy All Stars better than Brawl though), and I don't think anyone can ever expect any company to build a roster of better characters than the great Nintendo has over the years (except if Disney did a mascot brawler, THAT would be interesting haha) but don't judge it on those merits. Judge it on how fun it is to play.
I kind of find it funny that right before this you spent a good deal of this post talking about the characters, because WHO the characters are is about as important as the colour of their areolas. They could each be a randomly coloured blob and so long as they played differently and smoothly it wouldn't matter in the slightest in terms of how fun the gameplay is.

Speaking of gameplay, I'm underwhelmed with All Stars. While I'm not generally fan of fighters (I love me some story) I can still play and enjoy them them, and All Stars does not hold up to standard. It mainly comes down to two major problems.

First, while the basic attacks are decent in execution, unfortunately the only way to knock out a character is to get your character's ulti, making most of the match equal to who grinds to their ulti first. And IF you somehow manage to miss with with your ulti, you have to grind all over again to just get another crack at bringing the match to a conclusion. That takes away a lot of the flow and pacing that most fighting games are built upon, and when a fighting game experience starts to feel like World of Warcraft, something has gone very, very wrong.

Second is the fact the the ultis are very much overpowered (though seeing as it's the only way to get a kill I'm not mystified as to why). A single clip from most ultis simply makes opponents die with no regard to how long they've been in the fight since last spawn or how much damage they've taken. Once certain characters ulti it is very possible for them to just "spawn camp" (for lack of a better term) their opponents and net several lives in the process. One match between two of my classmates had Dante's ulti kill the other opponent's Jak 3 times in the duration of it, effectively ignoring the mini-invincibiity a new spawn garnered because it lasts so little in comparison to the ulti. Now in most fighting games an ulti certainly gives you an edge, but it still needs to be timed right and even then just spamming it against a newly spawned or swapped character is unlikely to net you a kill. It takes the right moment to use it, and it should not be a necessity in finishing the match.

Overall I feel the game is drastically missing the point of how fighting games are fundamentally supposed to function. The fights should be about who plays their character and the situation better, who uses the environment and combos to their maximal effect. A fighting game should not be a button mashing extravagance to see who gets God's SMITE button first. I personally would not recommend it to my friends, and I really do consider it a knock off to most of the big name fighting games. Most of what it does is just like other fighters, and what little it does different is actually worse than the conventional methods. You'd get more money's worth from any other major fighter, and considering most of the latest versions have already been out for a bit, you'll probably get them at a better price to boot.
