I think this thread is symbolic of Guitar Hero's recent falling out of popularity when compared with Rock Band... I personally read the title "If you made the next Guitar Hero" and thought we were talking on Gameplay innovations, but really all you're coming up with are "Track Packs".

1) The ability to connect more than one microphone for lead/backup vocals.
2) Tempo adjustment: Play a song slower/faster than the original.
3) Unplugged: Ability to go acoustic for a track.
4) Crowd Control: A second meter in addition to Star Power that dishes out bonus points for physical movement w/ instrument or Microphone. (Pointing guitar upward, waving it side to side, point microphone out for crowd participation. Builds up slower than Star Power, drains faster than Star Power, worth more than Star Power, used only once per track.)
5) Picker/Plucker: Play with a guitar pick or with fingertips (Virtually. Yes, this DOES have an effect on the sound!)

That'd be a fresh experience all around, and allow "guitar noobs" a chance to explore the same tracks with different variables and see what sounds best to them as opposed to playing to "match the album version".
Trying to think if theres anything i could add lol

well regarding the earlier hendrix refrences i think its a combination of the fact that the recording quality of hendrix isn't great, the master tracks aren't all seperate instruments, and i'm pretty sure hendrix would turn in his grave if he knew people were playin his music and plastic toy instruments (not an insult towards gh i love it, just thinking from a dead guitar gods perspective)

Rockband 2 had a nice feature for drum training where you could change the sound of the kit, which was cool, except i was dissapointed when you couldn't do it in game, as it really annoyed me how the kit sounded very different from the master track drums during solos.

REMOVE THE WHAMMY BAR FROM THE BASS!!! Seriously i know some songs have really lame bass but thats from poor track choice, doesn't mean it needs a whammy bar ffs, it doesn't have one in the real world... at least i haven't seen one with one... some message me there is a bassist with a whammy bar.

FX Pedal. Could add bonuses for effective use of effects, and would also give huge control over how a song sounds. I know RB has the little switch, but it only works during star power, which is just poor. So you can time it to come in at the right point, but when it fades out depends on the star power running out.

I'm also pretty sure a metal guitar hero wouldn't sell to well either. You generally find all kinds of people playing rock band, and a lot of them moan when the "overly complicated shouting song" comes on. Plus most of my metal mates moan at the idea of a plastic guitar, not realising its just a laugh for some reason.

Regarding a track pack. Its time that they added Rust in Peace to the Megadeth album collection.

I'd make Rock Band: Queen. You would work your way through their greatest hits, and the last song you have to beat to finish the game would be, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Either that or I'd make Reggae Band.

Got to admit, as far as lengendary band versions of Guitar Hero goes, I think Guitar Hero: Queen might be the only one I'd consider playing.

Step 1. Get rid of the rhythm gaming as I have no rhythm and replace it with something like maths questions since I can do them. No plastic guitar needed.

Step 2. All the tracks are now by The Fall.

Step 3. Rock out!

I would put Jimi Hendrix songs in there. The guy was a guitar god, why hasn't anyone thought of this before?
He had a song or two in some of 'em, but your right, he needs more recogntion
I heard something about that, but I think it was only in some DLC. He is criminally underused.

The guy was THE guitar hero if there ever was one, they even have a character in the game modelled after him.
The wind cries mary and Purple Haze were both in guitar hero world tour. Same with his character model. All on the disk.

If i were to make a guitar hero game, i'd have to add some songs from The Answer, Audioslave, Soundgarden and Incubus. Lots of incubus.

YES. Audioslave is a must.

To be honest I think they need to stop making GH games based on one single band.

Imagine the awesomeness on vocals!!!
Somewhere In Time. DLC album.
Amon Amarth: A few select tracks from Twilight... would not be a bad idea.

Improve the graphics. Have a lot more Billy Idol.

Sod the spin-offs. One game, proper tour mode like Rock Band and i'd have some decent rewards at the end.

Here's some actual gameplay innovations I'd like to see:

1. Vocal harmonizing
2. Ability to save a failing teammate
3. Make the neck slider count as valid inputs for hammer-ons / pull-offs
4. Re-chart 4-drum tracks (Rock Band compatibility) so that the crash cymbal is green, not blue
5. Contextual menu when selecting a song in playlist mode - "Play all by this artist, this year, this genre, etc"
6. Add support for the Rock Band cymbal add-on
7. Instant unlock with achievements disabled
8. Simple audio effects for Star Power added in the custom guitar menu (one-upping Rock Band)
9. Improved support for Creator mode that allows vocals and longer songs, along with a copyright violation reporting feature
10. Vastly improved score reward for drum / vocal fills
11. Improved recognition for vocal solos

Guitar Hero - 8-16-32-bit Rock.

All the classic 8-16-32-bit music turned to rock and metal and you play it to win at the games the songs are from.

Some innovations:
1) You don't 'fail' songs. You just do really poorly. Getting to the next 'tier' would go Rockband 2 style (Need X more stars to do X). This lets you five star that expert song with the killer solo you JUST CAN'T DO. This also means no "ohhhhh frig" when you're playing with some friends and had decided to go up a difficulty level for kicks and got a stupid hard song.

No, seriously. The 'fail' mechanic is so 1980. Put in a 'can fail' option available for play (unlockable?) for the diehards.

Added bonus: song you hate? Great. Don't have to listen and don't get penalized for letting it go.

Fans can get angry if you do poorly at shows, etc. Makes no sense that you can finish with the meter all the way up and only get a 2 star (it's possible). Makes no sense that you can fail after belting off 4 gold-starred songs and you lose a half-million fans.

2) On those long sustained notes, make it so you can still start the note if you miss the head. You'd miss out on the 50+ points and still break your streak, but seriously missing those is such a low point in play. You're stuck going "oops" for what feels like forever on a long one.

3) Make the screen even more interesting to watch. Yeah it's cool now, but can you imagine if they put in a bunch of stage tricks? Drummers slamming the drums with their faces during star power, stage-diving after the show, etc. etc. etc. Come on Harmonix, I know you're creative, you can do it!

4) Put on a bunch of bands that aren't super famous. Bonus tracks or free downloads or whatever.

5) Keyboard solos or whatever can either go on another instrument or get their own peripheral.

That being said, no comes my ridiculously picky playlist:
[not going to order them RB2 style because of time]

Easy Songs:
Warning - Footprints
Dark Tranquillity - Lesser Faith (probably not the best choice for this game but I love this song too much to consider better choices)
Isis - Grinning Mouths
Black Sabbath - Under the Sun
Primordial - Empire Falls
Iron Maiden - Prowler
Finntroll - Trollhammaren (to pander to the masses)
Therion - The Khlysti Evangelist
Nightwish - Beauty Of The Beast (not Beauty And the Beast)

Intermediate Songs:
Hanging Garden - Paper Doves
Insomnium - Halls of Awaiting
Agalloch - Not Unlike The Waves
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Balrog Boogie (I don't know if this band would actually work...)
Skyclad - The Enchanted Forest
Arch Enemy - Savage Messiah
Acid Bath - Scream of the Butterfly
Machinae Supremacy - Need for Steve
Amon Amarth - Where Silent Gods Stand Guard

Hard Songs:
Enslaved - Isa
Swallow the Sun - The Empty Skies (I'd prefer These Low Lands, but hey, that's a cover)
Gojira - Oroborus
Shadow Gallery - Archer of Ben Salem
Transcending Bizarre? - The Four Scissors
Death - 1000 Eyes
Machine Head - Halo
Megadeth - Holy Wars... The Punishment Due

Impossible Songs:
Anata - either 'Entropy Within' or 'The Great Juggler' (but Entropy Within would probably be way less fun)
Wintersun - Sadness and Hate
The Absence - World Divides
Lux Occulta - Architecture (mwahaha, good luck seeing this song's next note coming)

Bonus Ridiculous Songs:
Moonsorrow - Tulimyrsky. Not only is it HALF AN HOUR LONG, but it's in finnish. Your whole band will contemplate suicide. Perfect.
Borknagar - Colossus

... And I'm tapped out for metal, actually. Lots of the more well-known bands I wouldn't let in (Lamb of God, Cradle of Filth, etc). My post and prog rock tastes wouldn't work here, and neither would Jazz if I knew any jazz bands I liked. Painkiller and Screaming for Vengeance were already done in earlier Rockband so Priest's out. Doubling up bands would just not work, and tiny little unknown bands weren't mentioned because they should be bonus tracks.

The only thing rockband needs right now is one band:

[HEADING=1]AUTOPSY[/HEADING]

The reason?

I'm convinced that Service for a Vacant Coffin is the epitome of Death/Doom and Death Metal in general.
