If you shot yourself with the portal gun....

So... There's already a portal in the room... And you fire the second one on yourself.
And we're supposed to asume that you CAN, in fact, shoot a portal onto yourself.

Well, seeing as you fit through the portal, you would enter through the portal fixed onto you, exiting out of the other portal.

But what does this mean for the portal fixed onto you? Two options:

- The portal enters itself.
- The portal detaches and manifests itself without a surface.

Either way, the result is the same: a 'divide by zero' effect.
i.e. some sort of 'infinity through implosion' situation.

So the action of shooting a portal onto yourself wouldn't kill you, but it would cause the portal to malfunction and annihilate existence.

A very good theory indeed.

Because of how potentially possible divide by zero effects are, I assume that some sort of protection over the universe stops it from doing the sensible thing and exploding in-the-way.

I think this actually can happen in Portal. When you haven't yet gotten ahold of the portal gun, and it's just firing preset portals in the first few levels, I think you can step in front of it and take a portal to the face.

I don't think that the walls have to be special for you to be able to use the gun on them, I think the walls have to be special for it to NOT work. This means you could just place the portal on yourself and act as a surface. Its like if you project something on your stomach.

There'd be a gaping hole in your chest. Trying to walk through in would... Result in you trying to walk out of your own chest. Which wouldn't work. Presumably you'd get stuck or just create a temporal paradox and explode.

Assuming you COULD put it on your body it would make a difference on where you put it. If you put it in front of yourself, you would enter into the wall portal body portal first, so the exit would be... in some unknown place, and you would probably just vanish from existence. If you shot it on your back, you would walk through and start exiting through your back and end up facing the opposite direction in front of the wall portal with the body portal being lost in some unknown place. If you put it anywhere else parts of you would vanish from existence with whatever is left facing at an angle relative to where you placed the body portal. To know what would happen to the portal in this instance would require a lot more knowledge on how they work. It may simply pop as soon as part of it vanishes into the unknown.

Well, portals could only be placed on certain walls, so I really doubt a human would be able to have a portal placed on them. It also doesn't work on moving objects.

If you could, the portal would just stick on you. It's not like they make whatever you shoot them onto disappear. I would just put my hand through the one on my stomach and it would stick out of the wall.

Portals are destroyed when the object they are placed on moves, I believe.

Well, assuming you CAN shoot a portal onto yourself(nerdily debatable) and assuming you then entered the other portal, you would then cause the first portal to actually enter the second.

I have no clue what would happen. You'd probably get trapped in the space between the portals.

If you made a giant portal, it'd make a really good defensive barricade. Bullets would enter it and then disappear and fly out of another portal, obviously facing the other way.

So yeah, you'd see your guts, and maybe if you moved the wrong way they would call out into the portal across the room. In a perfect world you could walk through yourself. Which would be rather awesome.
