I'm thinking Dark (though having an 'unofficial dog' type would be good too)

Dark:
Houndoom
Absol
Honchcrow
Sableye
Umbreon (Umbreon would be my finisher; yes I know, a defensive pokemon as a finisher, what are you crazy? Why yes, yes I am)

Dog:
Houndour (C'mon, it's so adorable)
Jolteon
Azumarill (hurray for fourth generation reference)
Arcanine
Umbreon (Umbreon is my tank in this set up and Arcanine is my mass-death-dealer)

Psychic, no question about it.

My team would be:
Mr. Mime
Alakazam
Gallade
Metagross
Espeon
Starmie

Starmie would be my team's "leader" as it is my favorite pokemon, but I prefer to level up my pokemon evenly. So there would be no true leader.

Ground type all the way. My team, if a mix of old pokemon would be...

Torterra
Camerupt
Swampert
Rhyperior
Nidoking
Garchomp

Y'know, assuming I'm going for good. As say a 6th or 7th leader maybe...

Camerupt
Swampert
Nidoking
Gabite

Psychic`d be cool too.

actually a pretty well rounded group, because they cover many kinds of secondary types.
Who cares, a million other people would have your Pokemon. I'd atleast be special while failing. =]

My favourite Pokemon is Blaziken so I'd go for a combination Fire/Fighting gym.
Blaziken - Medicham - Rapidash - Hariyama - Arcanine - Machamp.

But I also like to imagine line-ups for Gyms of every type.
Aggron - Magnazone - Metagross - Steelix - Skarmory - Mawile
Sharpedo - Houndoom - Shiftry - Tyranitar - Mightyena - Sableye
Wailord - Tentacruel - Corsola - Lapras - Starmie - Crawdaunt
Togekiss - Pelliper - Jumpluff - Beautifly - Mantine - Staraptor
Blaziken - Rapidash - Flareon - Ninetails - Camerupt - Arcanine
Gardevoir - Slowking - Xatu - Espeon - Grumpig - Claydoll
Drifblim - Mismagius - Froslass - Gengar - Dusknoir - Banette
Golem - Aerodactyl - Nosepass - Hipowdon - Omastar - Solrock
Rhyperior - Whiscash - Rampardos - Magcargo - Kabutops - Sandslash
Cloyster - Weavile - Walrein - Mamoswine - Glacion - Glalie
Tropius - Breloom - Leafeon - Carnivine - Tangrowth - Cardily
Dragonite - Salamance - Flygon - Garchomp - Kingdra - Altaria
Exploud - Blissey - Snorlax - Vigaroth - Porygon-Z - Ursaring
Vespiquen - Wormadam(Ground) - Drapion - Forretress - Scizor - Surskit
Magnazone - Raichu - Lanturn - Ampharos - Electivire - Manectric

I would refuse to be a gym leader, since it would force me to use just one type, and I love multilpe types too much to give them up. I like Ice and Water primarily.

Prolly said many a times but I would be the Balanced Leader. I would have pokemon that wither had weaknesses that cancelled each other out or just hava team that did not have a necessary strong type or weakness.

But the whole point about this thread is that it's fun (or at least I think it's fun) to think up themed teams. Anybody can put together a powerful well-rounded group. A themed team makes you either pick based on what you'll enjoy using the most, even if they're weak, or if you want a strong team then you have to work around having a common weakness.

For instance, if you have an Ice themed team, Walrein can beat the shit out of any Fire types that would otherwise threaten to sweep you. Not only that, but I bred my Walrein so that it would be born with Signal Beam, meaning even Grass sweepers better think before f'ing with him.

There's also different ways you can interpret the themes. Charizard and Gyarados are often included in Dragon teams. If I were to have a bug-themed team, I'd definitely include my Kabutops to add some balance (I know he's not a bug, but close enough. LOL). If I had a Grass team, I'd include my Gardevoir, which I renamed Dryad because I rely heavily on her Magical Leaf. A Flying themed team can instead just be a Bird theme and include the mighty Empoleon.

So you see what I'm saying? The challenge is to GET the balance within a themed team. Be creative!

no, i think they are very cool and strong, the only problem with them is that you can't pvp with them or use it in post game areas (battle arena things found in emerald, crystal, ect.)
Aye, you can't?

That's news to me... =/

Well sure, but truth be told I was thinking more if I were in the Pokemon world and a Pokemon trainer, not if I was playing Pokemon and was simply waiting for others to drop by so I can fight spam the A button.

Psychic, my intelligence is my strongest point.

My Team.
Alakazam (Lead),
Espeon (screens),
Bronzong (wall),
Metagross (beatdown/revengekill),
Starmie (sweeper),
Gallade (Maybe? No good non-legendary choice for here)

Though Pyschic isn't anywhere near as good as it was in Generation 1 at this point. If I was to pick a better type...

Second choice: Electric (I've always liked electric types, though no Zapdos sucks)
Third: Normal (I'm a pretty plain guy)
Fourth: Steel or Water (I'd be screwed without my tech, and I like swimming)

Last choices:
Bug,
Dark (I'm a good person),
Ghost,
Fighting (also a wuss, though this type is the easiest to monoteam with and still be competitive thanks to Close Combat, mach punch, Machamp's general no guard tomfoolery and Lucario being Lucario),
Rock,
Ground,
Grass (screw nature)

I'd want to be a gym leader that has a mix of many different types. Forcing the player to create a team that can handle any situation. Because honestly, there's little chance you'll get through the Pokemon League with only electric and steel type pokemon.

My team:
Torterra: Grass/Ground
Luxray: Electric
Crobat: Poison/flying
Rapidash: Fire
Golduck: Water (with some Psychic abilities)
Dialga: Steel/Dragon

But if I want to go for simplicity, I'd go with Electric

My favorite type is Ice, but my favorite Pokemon is Blastoise. Hence the problem.

My gym wouldn't focus on a single type. It'd focus on a single strategy, such as annoyers, OHKOs, healers, forcing switches, etc. I'd like to see a Pokemon game that has that instead of the usual one-type gym.

Give him Ice Beam if he doesn't already have it. There's your continuity. ;)
