I agree with the Youtube thing. I absolutely hate all the "## of people don't know a good video" comment in every single damn video. I'd make 10,000 mods so they could help me keep it clean.
Yes, I know the issues surrounding piracy, and I'm not trying to be difficult.Some_weirdGuy said:... You're actually arguing that he needs to explain to you what's wrong with piracy in a society that runs on capital? .. you're.. i - ... really? Really?SneeringCanuck said:-You've explained fuck all, all you've done is insult me and whine about piracy.
-I never said I pirated anything, I just have no problems with others doing so, I prefer to have physical copies of films and games, hence why I don't pirate.
-"Just because it's failed every time so far doesn't mean it won't work eventually!" is what I took from that.
Though it seems (I really hope) that you were just saying it to be difficult and not seriously lacking understanding on the issues with it.
1. How has he been insulting you? I haven't seen any of the insults you are whining aboutSneeringCanuck said:-You've explained fuck all, all you've done is insult me and whine about piracy. The Virgo said:What is there to explain, really? I've explained it all.SneeringCanuck said:1. So you say something, and then don't explain it? to top it off, you still try to make yourself sound smarter than me. lol.
Insulting a pirate who steals stuff ... just because he can? Or because ... what? That's dignity! There is no reason to pirate stuff. None at all. Especially since you don't seem to offer any kind of excuse for doing so.SneeringCanuck said:2. Insulting users over a non-serious thread is dignity? News to me.
That doesn't mean they one day can't. Actually, to be honest, I hope they just shut down the internet one day. I hasn't really done the world that much good, except help free-loading pirates (lets face it, that's what pirates are. Not meant to be insulting, just stating a basic fact) do their thing EASIER (there was piracy before, but it became easier in the digital age) and let people be idiots without fear of someone punching them in the face.SneeringCanuck said:3. You think that people won't find a way to get past any internet censor? Really? Do you have any idea how many times they've tried and failed?

You mean it would be a "much nicer place" according to your definition of "nice". What it really comes down to is you would abuse your powers to impose your will on everyone else to create the kind of internet you think is best, which is basically what every dictator ever has tried to do.The Virgo said:As for me, I would go to YouTube and do some deep cleaning of the putrefaction that has accumulated there. From there, I would move on to 4Chan. Then, I would take down Origin, so that EA could remove that site and I could play Battlefield 3 without having to sign up for that spyware site. And then, the internet would be that much nicer of a place.
It did cross my mind. But that's fine. As long as you don't force your brony-ism upon me with avatars and the like, I have no problem with your liking of it.Robert632 said:Huh. Y'know I meant to come across as offended, right? Just making sure that's clear.
The internet is so full of bullshit. If you had ever existed without it, you would realize this. I didn't have the internet until 2009, so having lived many years, from the 1990's, into the 2000's without it, I can see it. Oh so clearly.Berenzen said:*snip*
Um, that's partly what the whole point of this discussion is about. And partly because of your "fuck copyrights and whatnot, FREE STUFF FOR EVERYBODY" post, which, #1, you can copyright and then sell it for free (see where the piracy idea comes into play?) and #2, as a singer/songwriter, copyrights are extremely important and vital.SneeringCanuck said:-Because it wasn't important.
The music industry was losing money last time I checked, actually. Albums weren't making as much, thanks to $0.99 downloads and piracy. And calling someone who steals stuff over the internet a waste of oxygen is not being an ass. It's called the truth. Plus, they are cowards. At least shoplifters actually get off their asses and take risks out in the world.SneeringCanuck said:-And quite frankly, yes you are whining, I've yet to see any serious damage caused by piracy (last time I checked, the three biggest pirated industries, music, video gaming and films were still doing fine), opposing something on principle is one thing, acting like an ass (petty namecalling, 'merely stealing oxygen' etc) is another.
First of all, ask anybody who knows anything about the internet. It is impossible to be 100% anonymous on the world wide web. And that is a fact.BathorysGraveland said:Nothing. The internet is the one place where we can all be anonymous and just go bat-shit crazy and insane. It'd be horrible to take that away from people.
I'm not talking about facebook, twitter, Youtube, etc. Those are social networking sites, and anyone using them for information without sourcing is not learning anything, though it may allow them to exchange ideas, which is what those particular sites are about. I'm talking about sites like Google Scholar, PsychINFO, PhysORG and other similar sites. Where scientific journals can be shared and spread around easily and quickly. You don't have to go find yourself a physical scientific journal that you may or may not be subscribed to, or that your library may not have. You don't have to search around for that journal from 1999 that has information that you want to source. Furthermore, governments have always been able to keep track of you, it is called a census, and it is illegal to not take part in it every year, and is much much better at keeping track of you than an IP address, which can be changed. The Virgo said:The internet is so full of bullshit. Also, this "knowledge" that you refer to is also knowledge that can easily, and without any real proof, be changed. False rumors can be spread easily and the masses will believe them. And this isn't on "message boards". Facebook. Twitter. YouTube. G+. MySpace. The Escapist Magazine. You name it. The internet has given the idiots and scum a place to speak out and have a voice. It has made piracy easier, and has given governments an easy way to keep track of the masses. You and me and everyone, thanks to the IP address.
I don't mind the ones who aren't flamboyant. I mind the ones who are, which I specifically said in my post.Freezy_Breezy said:Who gives a crap who the target audience is? They like it, let them like it. And you wouldn't know if they were a brony then, would you? Because if your standards are so low for fandom, you're never going to be able to tell! Your standard definition for a brony seems to be someone who is flamboyant, what about the the people who like the show but aren't?
Then again, I dislike kids to begin with, so I guess, either way, it doesn't matter.Freezy_Breezy said:See above, you're not going to know because if they're mature you're not even going to think they're below 15 in the first place! I know plenty of people OVER 18 who talk like that, grief and are generally annoying up the arse, and have been in damn clans with younger people more mature than the senior members.
And you know what? That's cool. I personally like MovieBob because he is an independent filmmaker and, as such, qualifies him to extent, in my eye, to review movies. If you ask me, only people who have made games should review games (Yahtzee made a series of Monkey Island-style point-and-click adventure games), only people who have made music and recorded albums should review music (Randy Jackson is a bassist/record producer and Steven Tyler sang for Aerosmith, making their verdicts on singers mean something more than an opinion. Even though Quentin Tarantino being a guest judge on one episode of "AI" was cool, he's not a musician and therefore didn't belong there) and people who have made movies should review movies.Freezy_Breezy said:Correct, and I was expressing the opinion that I don't like him.
On a related note, do you think sheep have opinion? I wonder...
I don't care, actually. /b/, /v/, /whatever/ it's all the same to me.Freezy_Breezy said:I like that if I don't like MovieBob, there's something wrong, but if someone likes 4chan, they're scum. You realise 4chan is more than just /b/, right?
I have tried to, and he keeps ignoring them. And if it was just an opinion, it would be different. Piracy isn't an opinion. And he won't even tell me why he has no problem with it.Freezy_Breezy said:And sure, the guy sticks up for piracy. Oh shit, another alternate opinion! Better call him a dumb-ass rather than being mature and making valid points.
It's not an infringment, it just makes no sense at all. If you were in a room full of things you didn't like and, right next to you, was a door that lead out of there, wouldn't it be the logical thing to leave and not come back?Freezy_Breezy said:He hates this site but is a member, that's CLEARLY a massive infringement on your personal rights to... do something.
I was going to make a reply to that. But is was going to be ... a bit long. So, let's just say that I used to be like that and I used to relish a good discussion, but now I don't care. Sad, really. All in the course of around 6 months. My, it is strange how the events of one's life can change one so drastically.Freezy_Breezy said:Look mate, you shouldn't just insult people because they disagree with you.
