Time traveling to save the Universe. Demons have gone through time and placed monsters in it. You go through time accidently, falling in a wormhole (Time is being ripped apart, this is commonplace, y'see) and get sucked into a monster-fighting, time traveling, totally awesome adventure. There's the plot. All the other little details could be worked out later.

You can go where ever you want in known time. And there's no morality system or anything, do whatever you want. Wanna ride a pterodactyl? Sure. Wanna shoot Julius Caesar up with an AK-47? Yup. Wanna give the 300 Spartans light-sabers then sit back and watch? We have that. Also, the achievements would be balls off the walls, batshit insane

It would be a hack-and-slasher puzzle platformer, close to the style of Ratchet and Clank, but sandbox. You fight demons a lot with whatever weapon you like, there's no leveling, just monster killing for weapons, The combat system would be normal, nothing new. The platforming would be fun, climbing high towers to jump to lower ones and get inside them, things like that. You might have to go through time a few times over to collect stuff, but that sort of grind is only for story missions.

(Hey, there's another game, sandbox R&C. Send me my check, Insomniac.)

Basically you can go anywhere you want whenever you want, and choose to do the story missions later. Story missions will unlock better weapons, but are not nessasary.

I'd create it as an actual giant sandbox, and your character controls sand, so it is like being Poseidon in the middle of an ocean, except you and the enemies can walk on the water (sand). The story(?), who needs a story when the combat system would be the best the world had ever seen?
So like this, but in 3D?

I would make Mercs 2. Except you have a shoulder mounted super rocket launcher with infinite ammo. And the city was twice as big. And you had wings.

Impossible. That man's brain needs to be dissected and and his mind examined. He must be a blast to talk with.

I agree. I'd do that.

Also, I'd have a huge city with good graphics, no loading between zones, accessible buuildings, and the ability to fly. Every decision you make, from how you get around to who you kill and who you help, would effect the city and the outcome. Every time you replay, the game would be effected by what you did in the last game.

A bit technical and difficult, but hopefully it'd work

I just said in another thread that I hate games that try to be life sims. But for my own sandbox game, I'd make none other than an actual life sim. If I want a sandbox game, I'd go all the way. Make it as realistic as possible. Any building is enterable, any store robbable, anything destroyable (with persistant damage, and then it gets repaired over time by construction crews).

I want to be able to walk into a bank, take the tellers hostage in an attempt to steal money, then the cops show up and act realisticly: staking out the bank instead of running in like there's free t-shirts.

The game would be hard, but it would be immensely satisfying. Screw story, you'd make that yourself.

And it would be set in New York, simply because I feel that games don't get the feel right from what I see of it in movies. Where are the billions of people and taxis? What am I supposed to do with this chain gun?

Honestly, I've had an idea stuck in my head since Yahtzee mentioned his idea while reviewing Saints Row 2. I would make a game where you play as a super-villain in a large bustling city. You'd get to choose what powers you have at the beginning of the game (super-science counting as a power), you'd get to choose (and be able to later change) your costume, you'd get to choose your henchmen's outfits (which would range from ridiculous to terror-inducing) and you'd get to choose your evil logo.

The objective of the game would be to take over the city by defeat various superheroes and other super-villains. You'd collect weapons, kidnap scientists to augment your powers, rob banks to fund your evil empire and other fun villain stuff.

Then at the end of the game you'd get a giant laser that you could use to blow up buildings around the city or emblazon you logo on the moon to strike terror into the hearts of people all over the world.

Here's a thought that occurred to me some time ago:

Remember GTA: San Andreas? Huge world, 3 cities, vast countryside littered with small towns? That game pushed the PS2 to its very limits.

What if that world, or one similar to it in terms of size, diversity and graphics, were transferred over to a PS3 disc? There would be plenty of room LEFT on that disc. By sacrificing top-notch graphics, it should be possible to make a game every bit as epic as San Andreas -

- but a WHOLE LOT BIGGER!

Think about that for a bit. How important are graphics anyway? San A looked impressive enough when it was released, didn't it? Saint's Row 2 has crappy graphics compared to GTA IV, but most would agree that it's much more fun to play.

Now, suppose we DON'T focus on expanding the actual map size of San A to the full potential of the PS3. Suppose we focus instead on how we can utilize the added potential towards improving the GAMEPLAY. Imagine what dramatic impact this would have on the player's freedom. Damn near ANYTHING could be made possible.

Two words: TIME MACHINE!

You could get to wreak havoc across a large number of time periods and watch the future altered by the consequences. Tired of that pristine, modern - day city with its clean streets and near non-existant crime? Go back to the 1930s and take out the heroic Chief of Police who made it possible! Need money? Take a trip to the Frontier period and take up gold digging or bounty hunting! Want action? Civil War! Dinosaurs? Jurassic era!

(First, though, it might be a good idea to visit the local library and do some family-tree research to identify your ancestors so you don't kill any of them by accident!)

I hope someone makes this game. If asked politely, maybe Rockstar will sell their old San Andreas engine?

Snatch/Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels The Game.

Or in other words, GTA London. It'd be fantastic. If Rockstar is clever, they'll listen to me.
Yes, they will.

OT: A game about the end of the world. You must bring it. Any way you can, start nuclear war, build a giant "laser" beam, melt the polar ice caps, make contact with angry aliens... anything.

I'd go for a game based in a city similar to that of Sin City and you can play as a cop and chose whether to a good cop or bad cop. Take bribes or take down the bad guys, kill people or arrest them, that idea of thing.
I can imagine something of a mix between the art style of madworld, and the game engine of True Crime: New York City. And in my imagination. It is awesome
That is a good idea...best of two pretty good games.

Mine would be a sandbox FPS/RPG with fully destructible cover and scenery and a kick ass physics engine. It would be kinda like a one player version of Borderlands, but you get to fully customize your character, not choose from preloaded/stock characters.

Bucket and spade....

OT: sandbox games become stale unless absolutely everything could be interacted with, blown up yada yada yada It's impossible to make a perfect sand box game but I find that RPG's often come closer to things like Farcry, GTA was fun (until the fourth one) because you could go nuts. Mix the teo and you've got a good silly game.

I was playing True Crime quite recently. I was quick to discover that every crime could easily be solved with the starting pistol and a quick blast to the leg. Other than that, Sword technique, Staff technique and dual weapons served me well in the katana and shovel sense.

You are A regular office worker during a hostile take over of aliens And depending on your choice of office supply as weapon It decides your weapon specialty. Like if you dual wield staple guns You would dual wield Pistols and you can choose to Join the rebels, Fight with the Army, Or guard your family and try to find some where to hold off from. Each joining up in the end to Invade the the mothership. During your time on the ground The world is slowly getting destroyed so the longer you spend on earth the less you will save of the world. Then after the game you can ether Clean up a certain city of alien scum or take the mothership to the alien planet and return the favor they did to you on a near suicide mission.

I made this up on the spot What do you think?
