@Maxieon: Yeah. Although I had to google it to find out exactly how long ago it was. I knew it was sometime around 1910, just not the specific year.

@Alpha: That's wrong actually. Emperor Meiji took the throne in 1868 and died in 1912.
Then Taisho took over and only ruled for 14 years. He died of a heart attack. Next came Emperor Showa who was Emperor from 1926 to 1989. And now the current Emperor is Akihito, or as the period is call, Heisei.

EDIT: Apparently it is.

@Scde2: When the emperor of that era dies they are referred to as the name of that era. Hirihito was his name but when he died he became Showa for it being his era that he ruled. That's why the current emperor is still referred as Akihito, and when he dies he'll take the name Heisei for it being his era.
