And why does your teach hate Freud? Sure his claims are very f*****g dodgy but they are sure fun to have a poke around with.

Well, my instructor thinks that Freud is extremely overrated. Important yes. But my teacher is constantly describing Freud as a "sophist". One who says a lot without actually saying anything with a shred of actual meaning. My teacher especially disagrees with the idea of the "id." I'll ask him for more details next time I get a chance.

But the Id, Ego and Super ego were the bits I found more believable. But yeah, his theories are quite weird and hard / impossible to prove.
