Well, yes, I said "Sten" because of the connatations, not because I seriously thought they'd mass produce a weapon from the 40s, before telescopic bolts.

Having said that, SMGs haven't been totally phased out of military use yet. And even if the invading force equipped its troops with modern body armour, a resisting force is likely to ignore the rules of war and attack people that aren't legitimate targets.

Well, that makes Belgium a target for other places without much of a military as well, though. It does also have the benefit of hosting the headquarters of the EU and NATO.

After seeing all these ________ invades America games like Homefront and MW2, I started wondering about this. If your country was invaded a foreign army and were losing, would you resist the invaders?

If it was extremly close or if the invaders were being very cruel (like Japan when it invaded China), I would. But otherwise no. If I wasn't being treated horribly and my countries army was getting clearly beaten, I wouldn't. If the pros can't do it, I couldn't either.

How zealous would you be in defending your country against a foreign army?

Pretty much exactly as you would do.
If I knew that the conquerors would make life horrific, I would try and escape/ die fighting to avoid the torture. But if they weren't cruel to the civilians, Personally I wouldn't care, they'd probably be better than our current government. And if our government started conscripting, I might be tempted to change sides completely.

True... but how many of those are military grade? Also, how many of those guns are in hte hands of rival gangs that for years have hated each other, and now are supposed to work together? Also, I dont see how effective you are when your militia is falling apart, as the scenario goes. The post here is saying that your military and protectors are failing, so do you stand while they fall?

As an American, yes, I would definitely try to help. I don't know about fighting as that's not exactly my forte, but I'd definitely do all I could to help the resistance.

I hate violence and I'm not a patriot, I probably wouldn't fight. But who knows, maybe if the invasors were really cruel I would turn on the berserker mode, grab the biggest knife I can and go get myself killed.

Also, while my country has been invaded a couple of times in its history (even if it was a really, really long time ago) it has never been fully conquered. After all, we invented the guerrilla war.

You're fighting for your way of life. Its not that hard to understand.

Had a question like this at school. It ended up being the government I was supposed to defend. That is why I ask. I would fight to the death for whay America used to stand for.

It's not about government. It's about being free or being a slave.

Countries invade other countries because there was disagreements that cannot be work out. As a historical fact the invading military are very harsh on the country that they conquer. It's not like the USA when we finish conquering a country. We turn it into a Democracy. Than rebuilt all the things we destroyed, plus Disneyland, McDonald, and other American pop culture paid by American tax payers money. In other words the conquered country have a better government and economy before it was invaded.

As a male Finnish citizen over the age of 18, by law I am obligated to serve in the military in such an eventuality. Sucks, but seeing as Russia's pretty much the only conceivable threat, and taking into account how they've handled the previous wars they've been in; i'd willingly serve to prevent my family getting carpet-bombed.

Here the thing about invading froce. You want to stop them right away. Prevent them from getting resupplies and logistical routs. If they can't feed and supply their forces, they will be taken apart easily.

Invading a country is very risky because
1. You're outnumbered
2. You risk of running out of supplies

The US military have the best logistical network in the world. The majority of US military is dedicated to supplying a very small percentage of fighting forces. No other countries is able to do what we can.

I'm thinking NATO is a pretty good contender to the US army in terms of supply, the same for the Chinese army which manages to get supplies to 3 million ground troops, the wonders of communism..

NATO relies on the US for logistical support. It apparent in Afghanistan.

If the Chinese was good at logistic they would have invaded Taiwan. There is a different big between feeding and supplying your troops in your own country and in enemy territory.

I'd resist all the way, as I'm abided even by the law. Being in the military reserve (with thousands of other Finns) makes this question rather easy.

And I've been trained for an easy task, with the lifetime expectancy of 40 seconds in a battle situation.

I don't think you understand how things work in real life or American culture. Let me explain.

Any invading military needs to reply their troops. You can't just pick weapons, ammo, supplies from your dead enemies. It works in game but not real life. Each countries trained differently, used different type of weapons, and supplies.

How do you think they going drop bombs on us? You first need to get an airfield and than move the planes in there (from your own country if it have the range to do it in the first place). Than you need fuel and bombs to resupply those Airplane. You can't take fuel from your enemy and use it on your airplane because most likely the fuel that your enemy using on their plan will not work on yours. Enemy captured bombs? Those not going to work on their airplane. That's reality.

How many countries have carries? How many countries have super carries. Only one country have super carriers and that's the USA. Normal carrier does not have enough planes to contest enemy skies.

They won't control American skies.

Since WWII America have enter at least one conflict every decade. We have generation and generation of retire combat veterans.

We have over 300 millions firarms but I think that's a low ball number. It's probably near 400 millions in the hand of 100 millions Americans. You're telling me 100 millions Americans are gang members? You telling me 300-400 millions firearms in the hand of gang members?

In the US firearms world, people pay thousands of dollars for training. These firearms training schools are far superior than what is taught in the military. In fact from time to time Special Operation hire these instructors to teach their Special Operators.

The truth is US civilians have better firearms training than the US military and police. They are not restricted to institution training.

Depends on who's invading! China or North Korea, fight to the death. They don't treat their citizens right. If it was a western european country or Canada, betray my country to them. Hell, I'm planning on emigrating to Canada after/during college (going to college there). Middle East, fight them. And so on...
