To answer the OP, part of family is to stick together. A lot of it also depends on the circumstances.

To put things into perspective, I know a bit about the sex industry, more than I probably want to know though I'm hardly an expert. As one prostitute I knew (working at a casino) put it, being a call girl/escort is no worse at it's worst than an episode of Jackass, except she probably makes better money than Steve-O with less actual risk.

So basically if my son/daughter was working at the (relatively) high end of the sex industry it probably wouldn't be my first choice for their career, but I suppose I'd support it if it was what THEY wanted to do.

Now on the other hand if my son/daughter was a bloody junky and basically turning tricks for peanuts to support a habit, that would be something else entirely, and of course my involvement would be... interesting.

Truthfully, there is a point at which you can't stop someone from self destructing no matter how much you love them, and truthfully if things got to that point and there was nothing I could do about it, I'd probably be destroyed, it can happen though.

To put things into perspective I guess, if she's making a hundred grand a year, or running her own label (like some porn stars have managed to do, Jenna Jameson being an example), and is happy doing it, who am I to criticize?

I suppose if I was from some old and pretigious family it would be differant, but I'm not.

Also as many should know from other messages I am *NOT* a fan of prostitution (which is admittedly differant from the porn industry at least on paper). This is very much a "what if" scenario and a child of mine wound up working within the legal gray area. I might not be happy, but I would support it I guess.

It's the kids choice, not mine. I'll support him/her no matter what job they take(Yes, including a porn star). Also, by support I mean I won't go apeshit if they tell me and won't try and get them to quit their job.

As soon as they're legally adult, there'd be nothing I could do about it. Not that I would - they could do whatever makes them happy and I'd fully support it as long as it's legal and they're safe and responsible about it. If it's porn or prostitution, or something that pays a shitload of money because it's ridiculously dangerous... well, they'll certainly never need to bug me for cash.

I think if you are a good father, your daughter won't become a pornstar. It's the industry cliche that they all have daddy issues, is it not? I don't really know what it feels like to care so much for another human being, definately not in a protective way...this question is too hard...
comming from the Sexual Harasment Panda, i guess i wouldn't excpect any more [sup](its a joke take it lightly)[/sup]

O.T. If my daughter that i don't have became a porn star I'd probably get really pissed, cut off any relation to her, and kick her out for good...from everything.

Just hope there isnt a weapon within 5 feet when she tells me.
Have a heart man, she's your daughter. You would have to claim some responsability for her deviancy, as her father. Maybe you could stage an intervention? Ahead of excommunication?
Okay first im don't have a daughter, your she's your daughter thing confused me at first. And two i would contact her after about 1-2 years and say when she gives up her job we'll talk.

If my hypothetical children became pornstars? I'd ask them for their porn-alias, so that I could stay the fuck away from their movies.

Nevertheless, for number one, it is always better safe than sorry. And what does a porn star not wearing a condom say to the people watching, ESPECIALLY teenagers, who don't know much about sex yet, who might think they don't need one after watching porn.
Seriously? You're going to go all "think about the children!" on porn? If you're under 18 you're not supposed to be viewing porn, and if you are and get an STD for "trying it at home" it's your own fault for being an idiot.

On topic, I'd probably be cool with it. Sure, I wouldn't be crazy about it, but eh, if it makes them happy...

Frankly, I find the fact that some people would actually disown their own flesh and blood for something so trivial to be the real problem.

Also, the hypocrisy runs deep in this thread.

Massive hypocrite here. If it was my son who became a pornstar I'd be totally meh, advantage of having boys; they look after themselves from 6 years up. Just occasionally needing a slapping to prevent them slipping into douch-baggery.

My daughter though, I could not handle it, I would make her life unlivable, possibly going so far as to stage interventions and being constantly present to prevent it happening. I know she'd be a legal adult but she'd still be my daughter, that need to protect over-rides legality and common sense.

I assume by the time I have kids that are adults I wont be browsing porn very often. So this shouldn't be a problem. And being serious for a minute, I would be disappointed, but I wouldn't dis own him/her

Not having any children of my own as yet, hypothetically if my child was to become a pornstar I would be devastated and humiliated for a good while, but I don't think I could cut relations and stop loving him/her. I have enough family members right now that do that because they believe they are better people than the rest of us, fuck that shit.

I would ask her to at least get a college education. If they refused to and said something along the lines like,
"Daddy, I'm a purty pwincess! PWETTY PWINCESSES DON'T GO TO COLLEGEs"
Then I'd slap her alongside the face before I she goes.
Okay, not litterally slap, but you get the idea.
