Ignoring the discussion posts

You know those posts where the poster reads skims the topic title and posts, without really reading what the original post is all about, and disregarding the discussion up until their entry? That should be put to an end. It's annoying to constantly come across these one post wonders, they contribute nothing to the discussion and they bloat the page count.

I've been lurking a lot on these forums. There are many interesting threads and discussions floating around, but unfortunately I am unable to participate. You know why? Because I take the time to read a thread before making my own post, to see where the discussion is at the moment. That includes reading those one-posters, realising that I've just read trash (I mean no offence but that is what I feel it is - empty noise), load the next page and realise it's full of the same kinds of posters.

Taking the time to read the thoughts of your fellow Escapists is IMHO worthwhile. You might learn something new, consider a new perspective and be pleasantly surprised that not everyone on this big blue marble of ours is an idiot.

EDIT: changed title to betetr reflect the thread. Sorry was a dick move on my part

Seriously, stop it with the My Little Pony hate. It's getting old fast. The more you hate it, the more we'll like it. If you don't want to see ponies, don't go into/make post about them /thread

Yes, I know those posters... i'm probably one of them, I just can't be bothered to read all that much. Also, I know everyone has their opinions, but we're not entitled to them, we're not entitled to anything.
Also, get ready for people purposely ignoring what you wrote for comedy purposes!
Because that's never going to get old!
Ever!

Oh god - don't worry, I know exactly what you're talking about from just the title. I hate those posts. Once again: Just because someone posted an MLP picture is NOT A VALID REASON TO NOT WANT TO LIVE ON THIS PLANET ANYMORE.

Yes, I do get a lot of post. Mostly leaflets and some stuff for the previous person who lived here cos I never bothered canceling any of his subscriptions. I've learnt quite a bit about him from reading his mail. I also get loads of those charity things asking you to donate a bag of clothes. Its stupid, even if I did have some, I would have given them to one of the last 4 charities to ask for them.

You know not what you provoke, mortal.

Stand down.
Unless this is all some kind of elaborate trap meant to ensnare you and your derailing ways.

More on topic, I figure you can read the first post and the last few posts and then gauge whether to wade in or not, or indeed to derail in spectacular fashion. But out of the various annoying habits that people make, I find that people ignorantly wading into a discussion are easy enough to ignore without resorting to flaming and other such nonsense.

I agree we should not speak English all the time, it's sort of racist, I mean step out of the friendzone, he's obviously a misogynist for saying something like that. People need to stop being so entitled, the mass-effect ending was the worst thing ever to happen to gaming. Not all video games are violent, or encourages bad behavior. Reality tv, especially on MTV, sucks. They're all about stupid bimbos and obviously the leading cause of teen pregnancies. Another atheist derailing a thread what a surprise, please leave Hitler out of the discussion, I mean DRM sucks and Steam is the best thing that ever happened to the gaming community. I'll not look at the link you provided. By the way, I HATE how the internet hates on everything. You're wrong. It is like a wall of text with no division hard to make out where one sentence starts and where the other end or the other way around what do I know for some reason I will assume you did not make it this far it takes too much concentration to read something with no punctuation but you need to stop watching FOX-news. I'm right.

I agree with you when i say my favourite FPS of all time has to be timesplitters but yeah i guess i like the battlefield series too. Both have their pros and cons. Its hard to see how people can get so worked up over what shooter they like the most, id say all of them have at least something going for them.

I find it both funny and sad that people showed that they clearly read the OP only to act like they didn't.

OT: I don't like that either. Sometimes, if I see something I'm interested in, but the thread is quite long (say, 4-5 pages), I don't bother opening it. I know I need to read everything up to that point which is 170+ posts. And assuming what I wanted to say in the first place isn't covered, then I need to take in account what other people have said. So most often, I don't bother.

However, the guys who clearly didn't go through a thread does annoy me. I don't want people to read through a 6+ pages thread, but skimming a short-ish thread can be done. Or even Ctrl+F sometimes. I don't expect everybody to take in all the information in every thread they open. Hell, I can't do that, why should I expect it from others. I do want to see at least general awareness, though. It's not exactly hard to do. Or if it is, then don't post.

In one thread, I had a question among the first comments and got 4-5 replies and they were all the same. Even though I clarified later that it wasn't the answer I was looking for. I had to edit my first post there to say "People, no I don't mean that, please stop telling me the same thing."

In another thread, me and another poster were discussing an issue back and forth. And two other people started discussing the same thing. Using arguments we had gone through before. In the same thread. On the previous page. And the thread wasn't really think, either.

I couldn't agree more, colombo was one of the greatest detectives ever, the writing was sheer brilliance and his catch phrase of:

"oh yeah theres another thing i ment to ask you about before i leave"

Was pure gold.

Below is my favrouite photo of colombo taken between world war 1 and world war 2.

On topic:
Yeah i get what you mean dude, it does seem to get abit disjointed from the start of a post to the end kinda like a game of chinese whispers.

-edit found a new /facepalm image jackpot! :D
