What's an OP?

OT: I've stopped writing TL;DRs in my bigger posts. Sure that will mean the people who scan the OP quick for the quick question to answer will skip it but I would like to see longer responses than two sentences of "Yeah, I know what you mean. I agree with you because I want my post count to go up.".

I know, that's an exaggeration and a little silly coming from a guy who hangs out in Forum Games but I do like something meaty to read.

Yeah, I do know those posts.

Look guys, YOU ARE NEVER THE ONLY ONE. EVER. Please understand this.
I bet I'm the only one who enjoys a spot of labotomy while beating a priest to death with siamese badgers.

Original Poster. I don't think I see it used here, but it's very common on a few other forums I frequent.
Wait wait wait. Wait. Wait.

People start threads? I just thought they popped up randomly and that I get to say whatever I want in the reply box.

What annoys me is people who say, "TL;DR" and then go on to give an opinion. People who can't be bothered to read a whole post should just hush.

I don't mind so much when people don't read every comment (though I generally do if I want to comment, no matter how long the thread is). Sometimes I don't want to touch the shitstorm a post has become and, so, regardless of where the conversation has drifted, I'll just answer the OP.

Yeah I'm tired about everyone saying that Wolverine could lose to Venom. I mean really. If Deadpool can beat Wolverine, he can beat Venom.

...where the poster reads skims the topic title and posts, without really reading what the original post is all about, and disregarding the discussion up until their entry? That should be put to an end. It's annoying to constantly come across these one post wonders, they contribute nothing to the discussion and they bloat the page count.

I've been lurking a lot on these forums. There are many interesting threads and discussions floating around, but unfortunately I am unable to participate. You know why? Because I take the time to read a thread before making my own post, to see where the discussion is at the moment. That includes reading those one-posters, realising that I've just read trash (I mean no offence but that is what I feel it is - empty noise), load the next page and realise it's full of the same kinds of posters.

Taking the time to read the thoughts of your fellow Escapists is IMHO worthwhile. You might learn something new, consider a new perspective and be pleasantly surprised that not everyone on this big blue marble of ours is an idiot.
You know these topics that don't have a clear topic-name, and can really be about anything?
Yeah, they're breaking the Code of Conduct.
So quit it, because it annoys me more than people who don't read the entire first entry (like me, right now.)

I prefer the old wooden posts myself, a nice picket fence with good solid wooden posts. These new fancy metal posts and chain link fences are so impersonal. Ahh I know those posts.

OP probably should have known that a thread like this would get trolled. It's hilarious, but still should have seen it coming.

To be fair, a lot of people don't know how to make a proper title for their threads either. Or a proper OP for that matter. Walls of text, off-topic pictures, bad grammar and horrid spelling do not invite to read on.

I know right?

You can't carve into them messages or anything. Oh I'm sure you can do that with the new metal ones, but it's not the same! You can paint over them, but with wood, it lasts forever.

Yeah, I know those posts; the ones made just to state that you dislike another kind of post, their pointless. < Just like this post.

Ah yes, I know those kinds of posts. The ones where they ALWAYS bring trees into the debate. Trees, always god damn trees. Leafed or un-leafed, they do not care!!!

EXACTLY! Where would hobos carve their messages or warning without wooden posts? What would Tom Sawyer have done with a chain link fence? No one ever dreamed of 2.5 kids, a house in the suburbs, a dog and a chain link fence!
