Is it illegal to be high?
By which I mean if you get high by means other than illegal narkotics, is it illegal?
Things like spraying deoderant in a plastic bag and then inhaling from it.
Do you think it should be illegal? Why/Why Not?
Motivate your answers.

Personally, I think it shouldnt be illegal to be high, same as being drunk, its not illegal, except for in public that is.

Also, if they search you and find nothing, but they find that you have been smoking cannabis via urine sample do you think they should be able to arrest you?

It can be illegal, like when you're driving a car.

Otherwise, there's no reason to protect people from themselves. Let Darwin sort them out.

Yes, but surely people whom spend their time breathing deoderant from plastic bags are the kind of people we can do without.
It's just natural selection at work.

In england I know that you cannot be arrested for being high on drugs unless you are being disruptive. Being high can be grounds to search you, and if they find anything implicative they can arrest you. This is mainly due to the fact that many illegal psychoactive substances are constantly in your body. Check out DMT (Di methyl triptamine), controls dreams and imagination. But if you smoke a crystal of it you will trip the shit out. It all depends on how you are composing yourself on said substances.

It's not illegal to do deo. It's not good, but it's not illegal (at least where I live).
It's not illegal to be high, the illegallality comes in when you're actually in possession of illegal narcotics.

Yes, if you are found under the influence you can and most likely will be arrested if they search your person and find illegal narcotics. It dosen't matter what you inhale, you are still high and it is illegal because some narcotics can often prove to be fatal.

No, it's not illegal to get high.

However, if you're high while driving it is illegal.

There are even certain drugs the government hasn't even bothered banning yet in some cases. Like, in Alabama, marijuana is illegal, but salvia is fine.

Really, that's how it should be with all drugs, but the the government needs to appease and look good to mouthbreathing morons going "yeah that candidate is tough on drugs/crime! woohoo!"

Legalize all drugs, the ones that are harmful will develop a name for themselves, if you choose to go down that route anyway, you win a Darwin award. The others are okay to begin with. You could pay for tax funded rehab infastructure if you're really worried about it. Even then it'd still waste less of your money than the silly "War on Drugs (That We Don't Like"). Don't arrest drug users until they commit an actual crime or get a DUI.

the other reason being high isn't illegal in Britain is that if you believe you have ODed on something you can go to hospital. It is only illegal to possess.

Well it's incredibly stupid to get high from inhalants-considering the very high risk of brain injury/death, but it's not illegal until you start being disruptive.

Veloper makes the crucial point about narcotics/drugs, in my mind. If attaining a high puts you at risk, no big deal. But if your hallucinations are going to hurt someone else, I have no problem with the police throwing you in jail for a night.

The drug-users I know, mainly marijuana smokers, are incredibly selfish people, as their habits are hurtful to their families. There are better ways to be happy.

No. Just so long as you found some way to high that means you do not damage your of physical or mental health, or indeed anyone else's, then that should be legal.

In most countries, it is illegal to get high, but it is not illegal to be high. It depends on the drug of course. With something very benign it may not even be illegal to get high on it.

Also, the whole DUI stops can be debated too. Let's say there are certain people who can drive perfectly fine while high. Why should they be pulled over in a random check and arrested? You should only pull a car over if it's breaking road laws and the driver is acting erratic or stupid, sober or not.
You can't drive perfectly fine while high, because your reaction times and senses are slowed, and your decision making capabilitys are shot. You get pulled over because no matter what you're like there is an overwhelming chance you'll cause an accident.

Anyway, I beleive all drugs should be legal, on the rounds that they aren't a social nuisance. Banning them all, won't stop anyone, as 1) people will always wan't to experience them and 2) things have a high price on the Black Market. I say that drugs may be sold to the public, on the grounds that they can only be sold with a permit by the Government; selling any drug without a neccasary permit is lifelong imprisonment.

This will allow the Government not only to moniter the narkotics being imported to the country, but also regulate the amounts sold, so that people could be more protected from ODs and addiction, set a market price to discourage people from selling them on the streets and have a quality standard for them, so drugs don't come with added harmful substances. And to wrap it all off, it'll help the economy.

Thanks for the reply, That's a satisfying answer. I was just wondering. It was one of those "what if" questions, in the case that somebody actually could pull it off.

No it's not illegal on the grounds that you could have been force-fed the drugs and be unwillingly high, possession and supply is illegal.
