I'm a 13-year-old boy who likes video games. No Halo or MW2, but Mario and Zelda. But, according to some, we are a race of loud-mouthed-XBox-loving-curse-flinging-homo-phobia-ing(?) idiots with no taste. I'm a little tired of this segregation between the two age groups.
In a wider sense, 13-year-olds on the internet are a problem too. All our videos on youtube apparently suck and we should GTFO because we are a waste of space.
Why?
I feel your pain.

I find people under their 20s annoying. 0-15 the voices, opinions, manners.. and the way they try to insult you, all of that is just stupid, uninformed and annoying. 15-20 their voices in most cases no longer annoying, but everything else still is. 21+ things get gradually better and they've turned the insults to an amusing art-form. Opinions may always be uninformed. But at 21+ you have earned the right to argue it. At 50+ I won't argue your opinion because you are probably right and I, compared to you, would have no idea of what I'm talking about.

A word of advice kid: Don't ever listen to anyone under the age of your parents (You may have to listen to authority ex. teachers to) because they don't know shit (not even you). But your parents DO know a lot better then you. So forget the youtube kids.

If a 13 year old is playing an M rated game they shouldn't even be online anyways.

Because most 13 year olds on the internet go out of their way to piss everyone off.

Not all are like that, this I know, but it seems a lot are. 5 minutes on Halo 3 or Modern Warfare 2 will prove this.
Closer to 2 minutes... after the first shot is fired is usually enough time to figure it out, because the first to die always seems to be someone with a mic.

Because stereotyping is fun!

More seriously:

People aren't as smart as they're going to be at 13, and it shows. Regrettably this has a negative impact on people who are talented or mature at that age.

Humans are more attracted to the bad than the good.
Turn on the news. Are you more likely to hear of a large disaster or how everything is perfectly fine in some remote village for the first time in x years.
You are more likely to hear about the idiot of a thirteen year old than the quiet one intelligent one.
Negative stereotypes exist everywhere. You just need to learn to accept that this is how people perceive your demographic, and then prove them wrong.

You obviously are a thoughtful person, so disregard my answer on a personal basis.

Most younger people on the internet or in a game are there to, seemingly, annoy for a response or to get attention. They feel that they only belong when people on the internet pay attention to them, and will do anything to get it. When this is mixed with the generality of early-teens having a terrible taste in, well, everything, it becomes exacerbated.

P.S. - I didn't write this down to invite a report, I am just writing what I have seen personally. Please do not report me.

Because that's what most of you are. Not all, off course, but most.

That's why the word "most" exists. To qualify that amount between "all" and "half". The amount between, and including, 99 and 51%. In mathematical terms: 100>Most>50

It's not unfounded hate. Simply put, around the 13 years of age mark kids simply lack both maturity and mental capacity to be... Well... Nice to hang out with. Some 13 year olders are more mature than others, off course, but the majority are just annoying.

If it makes you feel any better, older age only gives a slightly better statistical probability of finding maturity.

Loud-mouthed, Xbox-loving, curse-flinging homophobics.

Either way, experience shows. Children are often the most annoying people on the 'net (in fact, they are THE most annoying), and they really lack much experience is life to be significant in any significant way.

I know there are exceptions (and I am, in fact 15, and I miss the days when I was younger and everybody said 'god damn, I thought ye' was 20, er sumthin', buoy'), but generalizing is what the internet does best.

but thats the thing it does give us complete entitlement!

Haven't played online gaming since the launch of Halo 3.

The amount of homophobic/racists insults hurled at me (despite being a straight, white guy), by incredibly squeaky-voiced people, just because I'd killed them (the entire point of the game) was ridiculous. And this was every single time I'd played. Put me right off.

The reasons most 13-year-olds are looked down on in gaming are for similar experiences above. Plus the fact they're 15/M/18 rated games which shouldn't be played by 13-year-olds anyway, at the least not online.

But if they(/you?) keep quiet, are polite, and limit mic usage then most people won't even realise you're 13. Just break the stereotype, and you won't be stereotyped by people online. But the stereotype exists for a reason.

Much prefer gaming with 4 buddies in the same room. Much more entertaining (or, if you have space, linked Xboxes with 2x teams of 4 in different rooms). Not playing online isn't too detrimental to me as I don't own a 360/PS3 (was playing on a mates whilst he was on holiday - he said I could).

Well I am only 14 and people don't ever bother me about my voice or my stupid non excistant youtube videos. Its just people don't like it when the loud ones talk on the mic. And then when other ones complain that they are stereotyped.
