Because the internet is a cruel place, and because the voices of prepubescent people just tend to grate when transmitted through a mic. But you're not alone, and you seem sensible enough. I'm sure you'll do well once your voice breaks.

I'm a 13-year-old boy who likes video games. No Halo or MW2, but Mario and Zelda. But, according to some, we are a race of loud-mouthed-XBox-loving-curse-flinging-homo-phobia-ing(?) idiots with no taste. I'm a little tired of this segregation between the two age groups.
In a wider sense, 13-year-olds on the internet are a problem too. All our videos on youtube apparently suck and we should GTFO because we are a waste of space.
Why?
Because stereotypes are based on truth, its in keeping an open mind that we avoid being dumbasses ourselves though. If you're an exception then I welcome you, I know a 15 year old who's far more mature than me and I didn't hold it against him when he was 12. I'll admit that hearing high pitched voices on a Mic is irritating to me, though I dislike pretty much all use of a Mic, but I wouldn't hold it against your character.

You're what I like to call a "Hosenfeld". You see, Wilm Hosenfeld was a German officer during the second world war who helped many Poles, both jewish and non-jewish, escape from his fellow Nazi's. Obviously, he was a great guy. However, the rest of the nazi's were not. Like Hosenfeld, you're a pretty decent sort of chap surrounded by douchebags.

I call Godwin's Law on myself.

I do not really have a problem with kids in general. The high voice is something I hear every day as a teacher so I don't mind, its not your fault your voice has not broke yet so I don't understand why people get so worked up over it.

In fact I don't think I have ever encountered an annoying kid online, I play on the PC though so I guess the majority of kids are on Xbox Live and PSN with a small amount on the PC.

In the end though I think it comes down to two things.

1) kids generally being annoying.
2) Older teens trying to distance themselves and picking on younger kids.

Maturity is not determined by age true, but you will find the majority of 13 year olds are immature so the label is some what deserved, its just something you will have to put up with for the time being.

Because that's exactly how everyone I've ever met on the internet, and in real life, around your age is. It doesn't matter than a handful of you are normal, the majority still speaks for you. And they scream way louder... constantly... about Halo.

Because most 13 year olds on the internet go out of their way to piss everyone off.

Not all are like that, this I know, but it seems a lot are. 5 minutes on Halo 3 or Modern Warfare 2 will prove this.
Closer to 2 minutes... after the first shot is fired is usually enough time to figure it out, because the first to die always seems to be someone with a mic.
And the first one to quite always seems to be the host...
You know, it does, doesnt it...
And then you have to wait for like 5 minutes to find another host, after which time half the players get kicked.
