It's because most are exactly as you describe. Every now and then, you will find a diamond in the rough, but a large portion of the population are kids that really need a good smack upside the head.

A lot of people are like that in their 20s as well which is just sad. -_-

It's called life, every single god damned one of us had to deal with it at one point in our life and the previous generation will always be way to damn bitter to let it go long enough for two consecutive generations to exist without having encountered segregation by puberty.

It's mostly biology's fault. There's no real transitional phase for puberty. We're either squeeky disrespectful and unruly as all hell, or we're poised but bitter and irritated.

Personally before and after, its just a different kind of annoying. People generally hate squeekers because 50 to 99% of the time stereotypes are self-fullfilling profecies, prejudices are justified, racism has forgotten legitimate roots in culling up responsive hate (boy do the PCs hate this) and no one is going to take the time out of their busy day WITH ALL OF THAT GOING ON to give 1 kid out of 100 who isn't a squeeky arrogant bafoon a chance because it's just easier to tell them all to 'shut the **** up' or mute them.

Don't sweat it. You've only got 1 or 2 more years of this and we're all going to die anyway. Stop treating the hardships of life like they're a permanent condition.

I know a 13 year old who constantly makes videos of him playing call of duty and posting them on youtube then shows them too me. I couldn't care less, I dont like to talk about gaming that much,

It has a lot do to with the majority, we were all once 13 year old gamers but you see we were gaming before online gaming was big and voip services were practically mandatory in gaming. Sure not all 13 year old kids are annoying but most of them are. However to be fair most people are annoying as hell online but it's easier to blame one group.

It's like racism for age groups.

Because most 13 year olds on the internet go out of their way to piss everyone off.

Not all are like that, this I know, but it seems a lot are. 5 minutes on Halo 3 or Modern Warfare 2 will prove this.
Closer to 2 minutes... after the first shot is fired is usually enough time to figure it out, because the first to die always seems to be someone with a mic.
And the first one to quite always seems to be the host...

Every person below the age of 15 I've heard using a mic online has been either been whiny, loudmouthed, racist or just plain retarded. Although it's a rather sad state of affairs I find that my bias is well founded, strangely enough they're also mostly American.
I'd like to think this is because British parents have the guts to tell little Timmy that he's not allowed to play games with an 18 rating but that'd be expecting too much.
For me, the worst screechers are the british by far. Stumpy lil Americans can be retarded just as much as the next kid, but the lil brits almost feel entitled to swear up left and right. As well, Americans dont have nearly as many references to male anatomy as any foggy.

And that accent....urgh. A british accent suffering through puberty is earbleedingly painful.

Either way...I kept my little brother and sister off the mics until after their voices jumped. They didn't have to deal with the hardship at all.

Respect can be earnt (and lost) regardless of your age dependent on your actions and the sad thing is that a majority (or VERY vocal minority) of people in your age group act like tits.

They don't see it that way of course, instead they'll see it as being edgy, cool or simply one of the lads (it may have been a decade ago but I remember trying to be all three and, looking back on it, failing).

Either way, just be who you want to be and as long you don't become another one of the tits you'll be fine. Hell, I remember when playing the first MW the group I was with invited a 12 year old (shouldn't have been playing hey but hey ho) into our group as he was a funny, non-tittish guy.

I'm in your position.

We are a rare breed of 13 year olds who don't go around flinging curse words and such.

Well i guess the truth is that most of the kids that are that way are the ones who play video games so they are the ones you hear all the time, but some mature 13 year olds fall into the sea that is video games.

The only "Real" reason to hate on you're age group is you're voices, I dont really mind them but alot of people seem to hate the high pitch voices, But most people on the esacpist wont judge people by there age, So i wouldent worry.

EDIT:

It's just a sterotype, by and large the internet believes that you're a race of loud sub-primates with no people skills, and a lack of testicular dropping. This may be only a minority of 13 year olds, but the minority is alot louder and more noticeable than the better majority. Thus, we associate all 13 year olds as one group.

I'm in the same position as you, basically, I'm 14 and I only use my mic to talk to my friends on XBL, rarely talk in game chat apart from when in MW2, to talk to friends because of the party bullshit.

Though, to be fair, I do get cut slack when people see that I'm not a complete asshole when shouting over the mic, they normally talk to me in a human way.

It's just a generalization. Making intelligent comments and at least TRYING the mainstream things would be completely out of your expectations as a 13 year old. I bet in a few years, your group will be whining about the next group and so on and so on.

It's just a case of "the worst examples set the standard" like every other stereotype. The loudest of the 13y/o age group are the ones most of us come into contact with, so it's easy to assume that most of them are.

Aside from that, 13 is an age where most kids become obnoxious, know-it-all, attention-seeking teens anyway. It's hard to argue with psychology.

Those who are the most vocal and loudest will be heard above all else. People tend to remember when they have experienced the kind of person you describe but not those who act normal (for lack of a better word). In fact, I would say that by percentages, the loud, cursing, MW2 stereotype of 13 year olds is far lower than that of those that behave with a bit of sense and are respectful. However, it is the lower percentage that have colored our views of younger people by merely being the most vocal and loudest of the group. Whether that is fair or not, I'll leave for you to judge.
