I'm a 13-year-old boy who likes video games. No Halo or MW2, but Mario and Zelda. But, according to some, we are a race of loud-mouthed-XBox-loving-curse-flinging-homo-phobia-ing(?) idiots with no taste. I'm a little tired of this segregation between the two age groups.
In a wider sense, 13-year-olds on the internet are a problem too. All our videos on youtube apparently suck and we should GTFO because we are a waste of space.
Why?
personally, I think that its more often the spoiled younger kids(like, 8 or 9) who do that and sometimes they just never stop because they realise that they are being pricks.
and its only YTP that I hate.
its not the agegroup themselves(ive played with older guys who do this), but they happen to be the main force of these problems.
so even though you may be okay(I dunno, I dont know you but you sound okay) its just an unfortunate coincidense that its people of your agegroup that does this the most.
and thus, a steriotype is born.

did I make sense there?

*nods* I know how that feels to get targeted for the actions of others, it's unfortunate there are a small number of immature players your age out there that set a bad image.

Stereotypes are GENERALLY true, most of the time. Don't take offense to it, just prove it wrong.
Yea totally my black friend eats friend chicken everyday
And I help my Chinese friend plan American invasian plan

Yea, GENERALLY true

Those are not exactly stereotypes. Not in the literal definition of the word anyway. Stereotypes are based upon truth and observation in order to allow us to make generalisations. Ones based upon racism and hatred are just twisted versions of them.

The idea that restaurants have seats, tables waitresses and waiters for example is a stereotype.

Kind of hard to explain, but stereotypes in their purest form are not about lumping people together but to allow us to make decisions and other things that much more easily.
Looks like someone's been hitting the psychology textbooks :p

I took it at college, it's one of the sections I have always remembered. It doesn't help that I am also really picky when it comes to the English language, so it annoys me when people use words incorrectly.

I smell a troll...
It smells more like shenanigans to me. In fact a lot of the forums smell like shenanigans now.

People have to have a reason to post. Some just want to discuss, but I believe some get a kick out of not really lying so much as tricking people.

There seems to be a guy or two that makes a dumb, vile, or disgusting topic then returns after it gets to about a page or two and starts bashing everyone that has replied. That is a troll, this is different.

OT: You will understand when you get older. Write yourself a letter of all your favorite things to do, things to watch, etc. Then read it in ten years. Then you will really understand.

Reason I dislike most 13 yr olds on the internet (sorry for the generalization ><), are the following:

-finding them in games that are 15+ or 18+
-that they keep trying to mix with older age groups:

Seriously what is wrong with those peeps? When i was that age it the older kids made it clear they didnt want us around, this is the way its always been.
When you're in your late teens having a pip squeaked minor is a major buzzkill in most social situations, and a liability. Back in my day we knew this even if we envied the older kids for being so much cooler then us (or so it seemed).
And if they did want something to do with us, we'd always end up being used in 1 way or another, and THANK the older kids for the opportunity to be abused by them.

The internet seems to have corrupted the youth a bit in this respect ¬¬ You're more protected against repercussions and you don't get beaten up for acting your age like in previous generations.

I also have bad experiences with minors (14-16 ish i think it was) whom i accepted as friends and well, long story cut short ended up being posessive whiny b****** who'd get all offended if i play a game without them or when i started getting tired of their social clumsiness (im not your dad or your brother ffs so dont gimme any drama). It was reverse paedo stalking and taught me a few lessons about the dangers of mixing with people much younger then me.

Sorry for the generalizations and apologies to the decent ones (there are a few here and there who are mature beyond their years), but I really do have bad experiences with younger internet users and believe there is a reason why in school age groups usually tend to stick with one another ><

I know what you mean! One thing that always bugs me is when people think schizophrenia means split personality disorder.

Of course there is nothing wrong with being a thirteen year old gamer. It's just many of our peers are.... well, retarded. They're loud mouthed, spew out profanities, racist, sexist, and to top it of: they think they're better than everyone else. It's these morons who ruin the game for everyone, so many older players merely shun young gamers and throw us all into one group.

Is it fair? No. Can I understand? Yes.
Most people stereotype in one way or another.

Yeah, I understand that. I probably stereotype people without even realizing I'm doing so...

I will readily admit that I was one of those people. Since I took the subject it bugs me as well. Although admittedly Schizophrenia is one of the few areas I learnt that I am not too sharp on, I remember bits and pieces but I forget some of the symptoms and types.

Hmm, I have some reading to do.

Don't worry, from the look of it, your not of the stereotype, but most of the trolls online are either 13 year olds or from what i've seen, 22 year olds smoking marijuana.

Am I the only one who thinks people not even in high school yet shouldn't even be on the internet? The internet is a much worse place than most games and I don't care how mature you are, it still doesn't change your age.

Are you asking why we've made a stereotype out of 13 year olds...
Or if we suspect you to be included among them? Us who "just survived" to be more than 13 years old that is.

Look, ignore the stereotype brands. They are just a quick glance anyhow; not looking at you as a person.
If you're a person that can't possibly be related to it except your age, than why the hell should you care?

Personaly I am 14 and have encountered this ofton in the past aswell. Now, I can easily say that I was an ass back when I started gameing, round age 12 or so. However, I did learn much over the two years between then and now. I learned do's/don'ts of the gameing world, what was smiled upon and what would swiftly get you a kick in the ass. Team matches helped with teamwork and the few RTSes I picked up taught me logic/planing skills. Generaly I don't come across the steryotype anymore unless I see it against someone eles (lucky for me). I just LOVE to see the news storys about the screwed up kids that went and tried to shoot eachother after playing MW2, but you never see storys about the kids who actualy learned something positive from videogames......

Every person below the age of 15 I've heard using a mic online has either been whiny, loudmouthed, racist or just plain retarded. Although it's a rather sad state of affairs I find that my bias is well founded, strangely enough they're also mostly American.
I'd like to think this is because British parents have the guts to tell little Timmy that he's not allowed to play games with an 18 rating but that'd be expecting too much.

It's just a stereotype. Just because some 13 year olds act the way you describe, doesn't mean all of them act that way. Look at the bright side. You're getting older every day, and as you do you become more mature. On top of that, I found out yesterday that a 13 year old climbed Mt. Everest. So there's hope for you little kids.

it's not a problem if you keep your hands of halo and on girls
or at least of your mic while playing halo

the Problem is that most 13 year olds are on a high dose of hormones and don't know what to do, so they turn to agressive bevahiour and craving for attention. Plus they believe they are right, the worlds owns them something and nobody understands them. Believe me we do understand how it is to be 13, we have all been there. We just don't want to be reminded of that time and we were made fun of back then, so we retaliate by making fun of 13-year-olds ourselfes

Blame the Mics, because they make almost everyone's voice sound girlish, or like a prepubescent child

and in a wider sense, most videos on youtube suck, and the a stereotype is that it was made by 13 year olds.
So true, I'm post-pubescent and I still have to change my voice when I talk so I don't sound like a b***h.
I am 15 and the mic always makes my voice sound really deep for some reason.
Really? It shouldn't, cause microphones can't pick up some type of vibration in your vocal chords, hence it being higher.
