what's the problem, If you get an idiot on the mic just mute or kick them.
I personally dont want to fuck around while Im playing a game.
Or rather fuck around whilst I'm fucking around.

Kids under the age of 14 should not have M rated games ESPECIALLY microphones in the first place. It should be a law, punishable by having their feet beaten with bamboo rods, along with their parents/guardians and coupled with whoever sold them those things.

oh yea... sure.. because you have met every child in the world and you have never come across one that is smarter than an adult, after all we are all the same, and never vary in intelligence especially when takling about group in the range of 5 years (im assuming you don't think that a 4 year old would be able to play a console game)

I understand where you're coming from. But I think it's kinda like anything else in the world. The minority screws everything up for the majority. All you need is a small handful of kids with mics saying crap like "I just ****** you up Ni**** That's right Bee-otch I F***** killed you." and when they get killed thy start crying "You piece of S#!* you F***** cheated I'm gonna come back and F*** you up!"
Then everyone else playing can't help but think..."Those god-damn kids. I wish I could put my hand through the mic and choke the living hell outta them." or something along those lines or worse lol.
But hey if you're cool about playing and not an a$$hole punk. Then you get 2 thumbs up in my book!!
amen to that

A fact about life:

It doesn't matter how different or better you are than the stereotype. People who want to stereotype you will do so regardless of what you think.

Really, you shouldn't get annoyed unless they start the trash talk. I'm kind and stuff until my team starts acting like a bunch of trained man-apes without the training or someone just mindlessly insults me, but my trash talk is well though out, slightly confusing to most people, trash talk.
So are you trying to say that a person shouldn't be offended that a juvenile is playing a game that is meant to be played by adults? It's a matter of parenting. If I was a parent I wouldn't want my 14 year old associating whilst people are smoking (even if they were family members).

Children lack hindsight, which is why they need guidance and parenting to be forged into useful adults.

I question any parent that buys games like Gears of War for 13/14 year olds or younger ... you feel like nudging them and whispering in their ear exactly what happens in these games. I doubt the majority of parents know exactly what they are doing when they buy these games for their kids.

And to be fair, alot of parents grew up as I ... in the era of NES where violence was implied moreso than explicitly shown.
Well, I've played alot of co-op with my father in Gears 2 when we feel like it, so he knows, and my mother has watched me go on homicidal rampages in games like Prototype and we've both laughed like mad. About the smoking thing, I'm offended. My grandfather on my dad's side and both of my grandparents on my mothers side smoked/smoke respectively (both of my grandparents on my father's side are dead).
Then recognise the fact that your parents are not like other parents? There's a reason why we don't let children into a casino. I think most rational adults realize that behaviour learnt as a child beciomes archetypes of behaviour as an adult. Children who spend much of their time amongst adult smokers are more likely to take up the habit when they get older.

This is why fathers (and much more so hopefully mothers) who do smoke usually man up and quit the habit before their child is born. They recognise that their child will look up to them and that they should set an example. There should be blanket laws prohibiting the exposure of children to things until they learn the benefit of hindsight.

You shouldn't make allowances because one pair of parents think their child is more 'mature' than another child of a similar age. The law should be quite stringent in this regards. Your parents might be quite liberal in these regards but most parents recognise that children lack a developed notion of reality.

It's not your fault for being a child, but it is our fault as adults for not regulating your exposure top explicit material as a child.

Well it's illegal for children to play adult games for one thing. It doesn't matter whether that seems silly to you, it's illegal. Since no one has legal power to declare children playing adult games to be ok it isn't, you can't just say it's stupid to stop them and cite yourself as proof that it's ok. You aren't a full, unbiased or representative sample.

Children in adult games grate at me in the same way as teens in my local pub. It wouldn't be a problem if they just acted like adults in an adult setting but noooo, they get drunk, start trouble, vandalise the toilets and make enough noise to drive everyone else off. Frankly sometimes you just want to get away from obnoxious teenagers or kids, sometimes you want an adult-only area to unwind without worrying about kids.
No, it isn't illegal. Learn the law. IT IS LEGAL!

Lawn learnt!

Children having those games illegal, it's merely been made illegal at the seller's end. The only way for a child to have an adult game is to be sold that game, selling the game is illegal. Ergo the child having the game is an illegal situation.
It's legal for them to own them, buy them and play them. The no buying thing isn't the law, it's Gamestop policy.
Wrong. The ESRB, a GOVERNMENT regulated agency, has declared that any game with an M 17+ rating not be sold to a person under said age. It's not in-company policy, it's a fine-able offense. Just cause other companies ignore it, doesn't mean it doesn't apply to them.

Your age says nothing about how old you are.
What I mean is that 14 year old are often behaving older then 16 or somtimes 18 year olds.
No wait what I meant to say is that its doesn't matter how old you are but how old you behave.
Its hard to explain in english....
No it isn't. Age =/= Maturity.
I think that's what he/she was trying to say

EDIT: Oh, I saw your other post, I misinterpreted what you were referring to, carry on.

I'm 15... been online gaming since I was around 9 and been using my mic since I was like 11. The thing is, when I used my mic, I either said something productive or didn't say anything at all. I know that people have a hatred for children for children in online gaming and I know exactly why. In fact, even I hate children gamers if they give me a reason to hate them. The thing is, I've met tons of people older than me who are even more immature than the children who play.

Agreed the average 14 year-old and younger are the most annoying/crybaby/excuse makers in the realm of online gaming. But, I see where you are coming from. Not every 14 year old or younger is like that. It's just the idiotic ones that give a bad name to all young gamers. Just another example of prejudice and stereotyping that we should try to avoid.
but then again, prejudices like that tend to be correct. even if they might not all be stupid little brats, for every 1 good kid out there, there are atleast 10 retarded brats, and 10to1 odds are good enough reason for me to discriminate against the age group. damn hooligans!

but i'm sure i'm am being quite hypocritical right now, lol

I would like to point out to those discussing wether or not it is legal to sell an M rated game to a minor:I believe it is a regional law, I don't know about the rest of the USA but at the very least in the state of Michigan (where I live) it's illegal for an M rated game to be sold to a minor and it carries a rather hefty fine with it,

You think it's every 10-to-1, but really there's probably a much larger group of kids you may not even know are kids, playing quite calmly. You may not even notice them, even if they do talk.

Ever heard of the theory of Quiet Majority?

I would respect you more if you had spelled cope and spectrum correctly. But still, a valid point.
