i've had the homophobe thing happen too-i was looking at this girl, because she was HOT (she was also wearing a pride shirt and rainbow socks, so i was thinking about going over to start a conversation), and she came up to me and said, "do you have some kind of problem with me? yes, i'm a lesbian and if that bothers you, you can go back to your church, you stupid homophobe." i just told her, "yeah, so am i, and i kind of thought you were cute, but now i don't," and i left.

Same here; that happens to me all the time.

The problems start happening when I ask a question or something, with no intent to debate, just curiosity or a need to know, and someone responds as if I had insulted or challenged them. Then there's a huge fight just because they assumed I was trying to argue with them, but they continue to blame me for it. It's freaking annoying, even to the point of ending my last relationship (with a girl who apparently was raised to believe that arguing in any and all forms is rude, inconsiderate, and wrong).

This one time I was doing some project which involved people from all over Europe spending a week together in the same place and getting to know each other and our cultures. There were people from Germany, Austria, The Netherlands (that's me), Russia and Israel.

There were a bunch of people from the Israel group who wouldn't speak/hang out with me because they thought I was possessed by the devil, since I dressed alternatively.

Other than that I've been called a bunch of things, but usually by ignorant dicks so I'll live.

I was in an almost identical scenario, but the guy was black. I looked him in the eye and said "I don't like Blacks." I stormed away, faking annoyance so I could GTFO of there.
