Uncharted seems to be getting a lot of praise, so I'll probably get that. I probably should have mentioned that I have a 360 already, and already own Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Fallout 3 etc. To be honest, though, I'm getting a PS3 for when Heavy Rain comes out, as I seem to be the only person in existence who didn't hate the ending of Fahrenheit.

Don't buy the first Motorstorm. Buy Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. It came with my PS3 and it has allot better racing tracks and unlike the first Motorstorm you can play 2-4 player modes with your friends.

Also unlike the first it wasn't fun.

If you like Action games I would suggest Heavenly Sword. Folklore is also pretty worthy if you can stick out the slow opening sequences. GTA4 is a no-brainer, as is Bioshock and Streetfighter 4 and MK vs DC if you like fighting games, hope this helps. (Also, you're completely right in wanting inFamous and Prototype, they're both great fun in different ways.)

I do NOT recommend Resistance 1 or Prototype. Resistance 2 is better in every way and Prototype will disappoint you.

I do recommend very highly Uncharted, Call of Duty 4, and Bioshock. You will not be disappointed with these great games. You may also want to look at Fallout 3 and Oblivion, but I'd wait for Fallout 3 since they're about to release a Game of the Year edition with all the DLC.

Prototype will disappoint you.

Prototype will only disappoint you if you hate spreading mass destruction. It's not for everyone, but it's really fun to play a force of nature/death with no moral consequences for a change.

You know what games you like better than anyone else. Go to a review site and browse the highly rated games and check out what interests you. People here are just going to spout out the same games over and over and everyone has differing opinions of what's considered good.

On the PSN go for Wipeout HD and Fat Princess, maybe some classic PS1 games if you're interested, and then you should look at Warhawk. It's a lot of fun for not too much money.

Burnout Paradise is tons of fun if you've got some friends online, and SOCOM: Confrontation seems to be doing better after a botched launch.

As for upcoming games? Watch for M.A.G., God of War III, Alpha Protocol, The Agency, and DC Universe Online.

Why would I want to see threads like that either? That makes no sense. I'm just saying these types of threads are always the same. Might as well just copy and paste the top ranked PS3 games and let that be the end of the thread. This guy could get much more info by going to an actual game review site and actually reading descriptions of the games. Seems much more informative than coming to a board seeing people spout the same game titles over and over.

I'm about to buy a PS3 and I'm wondering which games I should get. At the moment I plan to buy:

Resistance 1 + 2
Infamous
Prototype

I'm not planning to buy MGS4 or Little Big Planet, so please don't suggest them.

Resistance 1 and 2 are great.
Killzone 2 is also great but its a love/hate game. If you like online multiplayer I'd deffinitely get it.
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune - great game, ignore the "tomb raider ripoff" trolls.
Ratchet and clank tools of destruction
Assassins Creed - (rental at least)
Infamous is great

Prototype - if you're dead set on buying it I'd consider at least renting it first. I had been looking forward to prototype since e3 2008, but something about the game and myself just didn't mesh. I really just didn't like it.

I also recommend you reconsider MGS4, it really is a great game despite all the negative press it's gotten from the xtards. Really, it has a 10.0 on IGN and a metacritic score of 94, how bad can it really be?

Because when asking on a forum as such you can gauge a game's popularity by the amount of times it is suggested. You will also get posts like mine showing older games that he can get for a great price, while still having a lot of fun.

Honestly, these posts contribute nothing to the thread (mine included, barring my first one, of course). I could understand if this "I just got a PS3, tell me what to buy" thread duplicated it self monthly, but it doesn't, so there's really no problem. So next time, just don't say "Arg arg stop posting threads like this, it's useless" but instead, move on.

Killzone 2, Uncharted, Valkyria Chronicles like everybody else suggested.

Would avoid Prototype, considering you've got Infamous as an option now, i'd be hesistant with Resistance as well.
