Being an "adult" blows...

I've had a bank account since I was 14 or 15, so that really doesn't count. First job maybe.

I don't want to be an adult anymore, it sucks having all these other people you have to look out for, bills to pay & all that crap. I really miss the days when all I had to worry about was passing a test in school...

Any remaint of my childhood had quite literally shattered; I was now an adult.

A hollow, broken adult.

I also got a bank acount when I was 9. That was cool.

Well, I recently turned 18, and I still don?t feel like an adult (I doubt I will until it?s within the next fifteen years, or never), but here are the things that made me feel the closest to the concept of ?adulthood?.

-Realising how much of an old man I must look while I?m reading the newspaper, doing the crossword, and frowning at rowdy kids while I?m on the bus

-My part-time job selling sandwiches at my school?s ?Subway? bar, and realising just how short and squishy so many Year 7s (11 to 12-year-olds) look

-Genuinely getting worked up in political debates, to the point that I?m consciously wondering if I even know what the fuck I?m ranting on about, but I just say it anyway

-My mother treating me on a more equal level when it comes to my opinions and decisions about the world, money, politics, religion, work, etc. (this is probably the most important one)

-Not caring about how many friends I have

Well I've had a bank account in my name since I was about 5 so I guess that's out.
Probably getting my first place on my own.

I was already an adult back when I was 8, all I needed was side burns and a taste for free form jazz.


But around the age of 17 (currently 18) I applied the moral themes and ideologies from Persona 4 into my life. Better man=adult. HELL YEAH.
I also got my license around that age.
And its almost been half a year since I got a great paying and flexible job for college, where I from time to time get to wear fancy clothes MMMMMMMMMMM YEAH.
Also paying for 1/3 of the rent for my dad's house i'm currently living in just makes me feel MANLY.

..... Better enjoy the fun while it lasts I heard things start to go rock bottom later on in "I ARE ADULT" life >_>

My realization that kid time was over was when I asked a girl out and she was married. Transitioned right to old man. Now I just want my medication for my bad joints and to occasionally tell dumb jokes to the grandchildren that I don't have.

I have done quite a few things:

Graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Biochemistry and chemistry

Opened up a bank account

Am currently holding down a full time job as a biochemist

Lived on my own and paying the rent and other bills

I would say that I have checked quite a few of the boxes. I am currently saving up to learn how to drive in order to make it easier to get to and from work.

OT: Moved out at 18, got a job a few months after and then I was like "Shit... I'm an adult and I have to cook for myself and pay bills."

Took a while to adjust. I didn't actually know how to cook mince at first. Now I can make spaghetti bolognese blindfolded (I've actually done it!) and I can turn my hand to most food.

Getting up and going to work made me realise I was grown up. When I started going out drinking too, it was less "come to my house for a sleepover!" and a lot more "Let's go t' pub!"

Travelling around too, I wouldn't and couldn't have done that as a kid!

I find "Being an adult" to be a non-existent concept just made up by people who want to feel like they've accomplished something through age and doing things, sometimes arbitrarily, locked behind that age. In fact, I find that everyone is still a "child", just pretending that "Being adult" is a real thing. It's never that we've outgrown what we liked as a child, but that we want to do new things. New things are exciting, and the things we did as a child are things we did often and inevitably got bored of.
Getting a job and driving a car does not make anyone an adult, or buying a house, or opening a bank account, or even behaving yourself. It's all simply learning new things, something we did as kids. It's not a new concept dawned on us simply from the fact that we lived on this planet a little longer.

When I was 16 my dad stopped paying child support for my sister and I because he got fired from his job, so I had to step up because the money he gave us is what we used to pay rent. I payed $800 out of pocket every month and still managed to save up enough money to put a down payment on a house at 22 years old. I have a really good credit rating.

I've also worked at the Department of Defense for over 7 years. I have a very steady career path in front of me. Oh and I'm the first person in my immediate family to graduate high school. I'm also taking college classes.

Nothing much. I've been in the army (1 year mandatory training and border patrol), live on my own, and I still feel like a kid. A slightly less tolerant and more bitter kid than I was 10 years ago, but a kid nonetheless.

About the only thing I can think of is eating anything I want for any meal. For example, yesterday I had popcorn and Coke for breakfast. A few days before that, mini donuts and marshmallows.

It doesn't take a lot to make me happy sometimes.

Realising who I am and what I am good at. I used to be very shy, unsociable and the likes. then... I began to talking to people. And I was good at it. And I made people feel good about themselves. And I enjoyed that. It may not get me laid, it may not exactly be something to put on my CV (although thanks to my contacts I have achieved certain positions in my uni, score) but it is something. My confidence is higher than before and my family seem happy for me. S'all good in the hood.
