Nice counter but it still doesn't answer whether or not you've read all of those TOS. I haven't read through Origin's in it's entirety but I have seen what it says about their data collection and it really doesn't bother me.

TL;DR Don't defend yourself, turn argument around on person who called you out.

What does everyone actually have on their computers that would be so bad to have shared?

I don't really care if EA wants to see what programs I have installed or my folder with pictures of aeroplanes in it.

I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I mean, it's not like your life depends on it, it's just a minor inconvenience in it's current state, if you have enough RAM and enough processing power, it shouldn't be any worse than having Steam running in the background.

I'm trying to resist as much as you do, but after replaying the previous Mass Effects and watching those delicious trailers and considering that EA is selling their games at insanely reasonable prices in my region (ME3 and pretty much any EA game is roughly $38 US dollars through Origin), I think I'll also succumb, sooner or later.

I'll wait for the reviews to arrive and see if there aren't many problems with Origin itself to decide if I'll "sell my soul to EA" or not. Besides, it's the only EA game I'm interested into right now, I'll simply close Origin when I stop playing ME3.

To quote Dr. Cox, "giant 'who cares'". It's a service like any other and its only real fault is that its inferior to the market leader. If you're worried over your privacy cause of the ToS, you should really wake up to the world you live in.

I tried guys. I really did. Oh man how I tried. I even considered missing out on Mass Effect 3, just to avoid it. But then...the trailers started. The trailers and the demo and the rave reviews thereof, I just couldn't stop myself.

I pre-ordered the deluxe edition via Origin. I feel dirty now. So dirty. But sometimes... we just have to do things we don't like, morally, to get by in life.

...I feel like i've let everyone down. I'm sorry.
Don't worry, go on and fight the Reapers and enjoy it!

Just because you used Origin the world doesn't end! And if you didn't the Reapers may win and it might D :

Yeaaah, and ? Whaddya expect us to say ? "You lying, backstabbing bastard"? or "Don't worry brother, we'll carry on the fight"? How 'bout.....oooh wait, you're being silly. Well now I feel like a moron.
Truth is, it's not a big deal. I mean, I get it. Demo was good enough for me to install first two titles and play them. However, I'm not getting ME3. If I put aside fact that I have a lot of other games to play, as well as the fact I can't afford it atm there's still Origin.

Now, I don't mind EA made their own digital distribution platform; something to rival Steam (although it doesn't really come close). A bit of competition is good. I just don't like being forced to use something I'm not okay with. I like to have options, I like a good deal and most importantly I as a customer like gestures of good will. Mutual respect and trust go a long way in any business, and EA has failed to endear themselves to me with the way they treat customers and their war on used games. So I'm boycotting Origin. A futile and meaningless effort perhaps, but that doesn't mean I'll cave in.

PS. Besides, if I ever get desperate, I'll just buy the game, and play it using alternative methods :)

There really isn't anything awful about origin. Are it prices the best? No. Are its games the best? No. Is it steam? No. But it isn't the horrible hell spawn that people make it out to be. "But they're selling all my data". Yeah, so is pretty much every other program and website you use. People just like to scream at EA.
I'm still mad that they killed Pandemic studios, those dudes haven't even made the ending to their Destroy All Humans Series, EA. Have mercy....

Anyways, your just being silly, nothing to be ashamed of. Except for supporting the biggest douche publisher that apparently hates it target audience.

Hey guys, I've got my torch and pitchfork ready. Sorry I forgot but when do we storm EA's evil fortress and kill the monster Origin?
I don't know man, I've had to keep re-heating this gun so the bullets would make the beast come on fire, but it seems like Johnny over there has a case of the pussy and our boss is on the valves.

Its something about not asking and doing it anyways. I remember something back when where they installed Origin onto some computers if it had their past device installed, not quite sure if I'm just making this up or if there was some story behind this.

Its not a case of "what do we have to hide" but a case of a right that every human being should have, and thats the right to privacy. I know a few people who keep a E-Journal, basically a locked text file that is their diary on a computer, and I know they wouldn't want someone else, even if they didn't know the person, reading it.

You maniac! You blew it up! Ah, damn you god-damn you to hell!

On a more serious note: It's fine, just be sure to wash yourself with bleach after you installed Origin.

Lol, I'm not trying to defend myself. I'm not even in the argument, because I'm not interested in an argument. I wanted information. I said myself that I didn't know to what extent it collects data, it may be on the same level as steam, in which case I'm fine. But if it still wants to collect what it said it would collect when it was FIRST launched, then I don't want it.

So here's a TL;DR for you: Don't try to pull people into arguments.

I don't quite get this, but then again, I'm used to not getting what I want. I haven't bought a game at launch since The Path, and that's cause I was actively supporting one of my favorite indie devs. If you really care about discouraging Origins, why not wait? *because you love games.*

That's the problem here; if you love gaming,(and like the series) you're going to get Mass Effect 3. But if you love gaming, (and dislike Origin/EA in general) you're going to somehow also NOT get Mass Effect 3.
Its a paradox worthy of breaking GLaDOS.

If you really feel bad about ordering the game, OP, send a letter to EA stating that you dislike Origins. It may speak differently or potentially be less loud than just not giving them money, but you've made an effort then and have done right by games and yourself.

Well, the world didn't implode, so all the scaremongering and fearmongering about Origin was probably just people hating EA for trying to compete with steam.
Fancy that.

I'm just gonna wait till its available on steam 1-2 years after its release, including all DLC. I'm sure its only a matter of time.
Yeaah, just like all the valve games are released outside of steam.

Yeaah. Those still require steam to run.
Nice try, though.
