I avoid the whole problem by just buying all my games new.

As if I'm gonna contribute to rising game prices by siphoning off developer profits into some middle-man store... pfft.

I see what you mean. I've never done that myself since most of the time my games store usually has the actual game locked up in the storage room. And even if I do get an outright horrible case (I think my Kingdom Hearts case had some mold growing on it, which REALLY creeped me out. O_O), I usually do some DVD-case swapping so that everything looks pretty.

The only thing I buy from GameStop now is a controller if I'm desperate. I tend to order from Amazon, or companies directly if I can. Also I have a growing list of Amazon Third Party Sellers that earned my trust and a list of whom to boycott.

When you buy used games at gamestop developers get a big fat nothing from the sale. It's like buying it from a friend. Which sucks, kinda.

I didn't know you could do that. My local Gamestop has all the disks behind the register; all of the game boxes are empty.

Good.
I don?t even shop there anymore but my friend does and I think he might piss them off even more: he makes them switch the stuff out.
Yes in NYC gamestop keeps the ps2 & xbox discs in the drawer too.

If I'm paying money for a game, I'm getting a good case, a good disc, and a manual goddammit! That said, I do this politely and always replace the game in its proper place on the self.

Speaking as a current Gamestop employee, the worst kind of customer is the one that comes in to sell a bunch of old-as-fuck games, and then becomes "outraged" to find out that no, you can't actually trade Manhunt and GTA3 for the PS2 for Red Dead Redemption for the 360.
How about a customer who demands you print them a list of ALL games worth 8 bucks in trade. Then calls back in a week for the updated list. Or ones who get you on the phone with a list of 100+ games and want to know the value of every single one.

1- I tell him that no, I'm not printing him anything, and;
2- I don't give replay values on the phone.

Easy. ;)

Also, regading the whole display thing, we keep our games in the storeroom, and they're all factory sealed. We usualy open a couple of copies for display purposes, and keep the content of those boxes in drawers made for that purpose. Same goes for used games. We never, EVER put games with the discs (or manuals) inside on general display.

I don't really think you're their worst nightmare, but more like their best friend. I buy all those old-as-fuck games too (provided some previous owner didn't vomit all over the case), and they make good money off these old games. Im the kinda guy that hangs out in there for an hour and a half browsing the shelves. ill get funny glances, and get to overhear some of the fun conversations that occur. I remember this one time that some kid duped his grandma into buying him House of the Dead overkill because it "wasn't that violent."

I work at gamestope and I make the customer look at the disk before they buy the game. I've bought bad games from gamestop before and I don't want to be the guy that sells you one. Lucky for me I work in what seems to be the only reliable gamestop in the area because all the others are the kind that sell you the disks that look like they went through a paper shredder.
