You should change the topic to "... Metal in 2009".

Why do so many people here listen to metal?.. or rather, why are there so many posts about it?
Most people listen to it becuse it well... It's just awesome? Alot people that listen to mainstream music usally don't understand whats up with listening to metal. And they usally associate metal with the ''OMG *SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM*'' type music.
my metal has screaming and I like it just fine

Seriously though Everyone download Grey Britain By Gallows, its amazing.
Whats it like compared to "orchestra of wolves"?

The Prodigy, Durrty Goodz, Random Impulse, Jedi Mind Tricks, Venetian Snares, Plastic Little, Snowgoons, DJ Marcky, Evol Intent, Caspa and Gallows all may or may not have released albums this year. All in all a good year so far, unless these bands didn't release albums this year. I just don't know

EDIT: I'd say Grey Britain is less heavy than Orchestra Of Wolves but on a couple of tracks it makes up for it by being faster. There's also a lot of really good shout along bits to enjoy. Overall it's a great album but quite different to their last one.

EDIT AGAIN: Well I'm another hip hop fan, I just happen to live in my own little bubble, a bubble which The Chronic has only just appeared in just to give you an idea of how out of touch I am.

Wait, how have you listened to all of it?
Or was it already leaked? I knew a couple of songs were. I'm waiting to listen to all of it on the day it comes out, except for A Rite of Passage.
The whole thing leaked a few weeks ago, though I will be buying a hard copy, as I do with all music I love.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 'It's Blitz!'
I highly recommend that one, surprisingly good, considering I'm not that big a Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan.
You don't think they're getting a little Pretenders-ish? Totally works out if you like The Pretenders, I do. But it's just totally different from earlier stuff... again not necessarily a bad thing.

However Exivious's debut album was amazing. Jazz Fusion Metal is secks.
That sounds right up my alley. Will be checking out.
They only made 1,000 copies of their debut. They're a little band from the Netherlands made up from another Jazz Fusion Metal band called Cynic from Florida. Cynic is a bigger band and you can find their stuff pretty easily. They only have two albums though. One released in '94, the other released in 2007 after a long hiatus. Both are terrific.

Funny that you say that because there are a number of people talking about Lamb of God here, and that's about as main-stream as it gets for metal... very talented band, and I love the drummer... just not really my cup of tea.

It is very different and Pretenders-ish... which is probably why I like it.
Also, It's Blitz! is like a semi-electronic Throwing Muses, I think that's a better example.

I might be able to find it, I'm clever like that.
I'm a fan of Cynic, though I prefer their bassists (Sean Malone) band, Gordian Knot.

When im talking mainstream im usally meaning pop, rnb and hip hop stuff.
But yes there are mainstream metal bands, I wouldn't say Lamb of God would be mainstream.
Mainstream in my eyes is a artist or band that gets aloooot of media attention aka. Radio, magazines (like what they had for lunch, omg they ate a bagel! they are fat asses!!!! blasphemy!!!) and alot of tv exposure, aka MTV etc.

Definite Props to Mastodon's Crack the Skye. Definitely the best thing they've put out--and that's saying a lot coming from me, as I'm a big fan of their old stuff--and Easily my favorite album to come out this year. If you like Metal or Progressive Rock, you HAVE to look into it. I got to see them perform in live, and dear god were they amazing.

i haven't bought any album from this since i am in the middle of fucking nowhere and have no access to a cd store.i follow modern music a little but mostly its nothing that i would listen to normally.i am much more into the older band i.e Pink Floyd,Deep Purple,Rolling Stones and many more.i like older rock and metal way more and i think that pop and rap/hip-hop nowadays is all about some shit that no one understand except you were raised in the "hood" which most of these rapper/hip-hop guys are not raised in anyway.and pop has just newer really been any good in my opinion.i think all these pop "divas" are just getting fans cuz' of they're sex appeal,in my opinion of course.but no song in 2009 has my by the balls addicted.

I'm really looking forward to Black Clouds and Silver Linings by Dream Theater. I was surprised and overjoyed when I found out they where releasing a new album this month(!).
I have listened to a few songs on youtube, and I really like Count of Tuscany, awesome, epic song.

I dislike judging years until they're over.
But it's been darn good for metal so far.
I liked Evisceration Plague, and I don't even listen to CC.

'Cunninlynguists - strange journey one', 'Joe Budden - Padded Room', possibly 'ThreatZ - Breaking Point' and 'Charles Hamilton - Sonic The Hamilton/Intervention'. I loves me some hip hop. I believe there was an article on Charles Hamilton last week on here surprisingly.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_204/6123-Sonic-the-Hamilton

If you had a 2008 thread I would have flooded it, but right now I don't know, it's not like I can't name anyone, but I could name much better albums last year.

Enter Shikari's new album, Common Dreads, comes out this monday. I've heard the whole thing and must say that it is simply amazing. Oh yeah, Billy Talent's new album, Billy Talent 3, comes out in July and Coheed and Cambria have another album in the works. Rammstein should have their new album out this year too. Now if only System of a Down would get back together...
if only... but yeah so far nothing ive really noticed besides the new green day album

LoG does get a lot of media support though. Like Trivium and some others, they appear on metal magazines, and MTV Headbanger's Ball, almost all the time. You don't have to be on every channel and radio station to be mainstream. Just a few of them.

It is pretty darn good. I'm not sure if I like it more than Leviathan though, but it is a highlight of this years Metal world.

Whatever you do, never mistake the modern music I'm talking about for the cookie-cutter junk featured on the radio/tv. It is to music as McDonalds is to food.

If you like older Rock and Metal, check out The Devil You Know by Heaven & Hell, (Dio's new band.) Into The Labyrinth by Saxon, and Freedom Metal by Bible of the Devil. More of a classic sound.
If you like Pink Floyd, check out Porcupine Tree someday, the albums Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream will be right up your alley.
Along with The Dark Third by Pure Reason Revolution, In The Future by Black Mountain, and Metropolis 2 by Dream Theater.

They have been every 2 years for a while now.
Definitely familiarize yourself with the Alcoholic's Anonymous Suite before listening to The Shattered Fortress, which goes The Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, The Root of All Evil, and Repentance. The Shattered Fortress is the finale of those four songs.

Amesoeurs self Titled album is the one I've been listening to a lot

Dredg just came out with a new album, not like catch without arms, its a bit more pop sounding, but good nonetheless

The Dear Hunter's Act III: Life and Death (leaked) and it is awesome! the first few songs sound exactly like Act II, but then it breaks off and goes its own direction.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart Self Titled is probably one of the better shoegaze albums I've heard.

I've heard good things of Octahedron by The Mars Volta, so I may pick it up soon.

and probably, by far, my favorite album of the year is O'Malley's Bar by George Dorn Screams. Awesome Polish Post-punk/rock

Isis released Waivering Radiant, which is good, but feels like a carbon copy of In the Absence of Truth

whoever said the thread should be named "metal in 2009" should definitely look into the albums I've mentioned.
