It's funny, I've only had problems with my PS3 after I sent it away for repair. The Blu ray drive had given out, so I sent it off to get fixed. Got one back, but then the console kept crashing whenever I tried to do anything other than look at it. So I sent that one away, got another one, and now this one freezes 100% of the time when I play games. So I'm going to send this one off and try again. At least I haven't had to pay each time...

Let me make one thing clear to everyone. It's not the fact that my trophy syncing function was broken that made me want to sell the PS3 (I know it's pretty much what I said in the OP, but hear me out).

There are a number of other reasons why I sold it, such as how broken and buggy the system can be at times such as shutting off for no reason whatsoever, and the fact that when I contacted the customer service, they gave me a stupid reason for why it might be happening (they believed it might be my modem).

It's not because I couldn't sync the trophies that made me sell the PS3 and give up on Sony, it's because of how easy the system messed itself up that just simply made me say "I've had enough!" (that, and the fact that the day this happened, my guarantee expired on it). I understand that my reasons may sound pathetic, maybe even irrational, but that's just the way it is unfortunately.

And finally, the reason I have no regrets on why I sold the PS3 is because I already have Steam, which is far superior and far more reliable than any other platform I have played in the last 5 years or so. I know Steam isn't a console, but if it was, it would probably make owning a 360 or PS3 pointless and unnecessary.
I imagine you play nothing but AAA first person shooters then. I'm not saying that cause you come off like a dudebro, but if you can say "Hey Steam has everything I want on the PS3 anyway." That's likely the genre you're focusing on. There's a pretty significant segment of the PS3 (and 360) libraries that Steam doesn't and probably will never have.

Personally, I have a launch-day 60 gig PS3, so it's about, what, 5 years old now? The only problem I ever had with it was a very brief period where the machine would freeze if I tried to play a game after exiting the PSN store. That has since resolved itself.

But hey, it's your life and your money. I just hope a few months down the road you're not regretting this choice and in a position to spend far more than what you sold it for to replace your console and library.

I've still got my first gen PS3 and happy to say it runs like new still. And regarding OP, trophies shmophies. Sure it's nice to see something for your gaming work, but shouldn't the experience of the game be more worthwhile?

Don't worry, I may not have a PS3 anymore, but I'm not without games, and I have other forms of entertainment to keep myself from getting bored (DVDs, books, etc).

Oh, and no, I don't play AAA FPS games (at least, not anymore since they became samey), I play other types of games such as platformers, action games, puzzle games, racing games, and indie games.

I'm not quite sure what the point of this thread was. So basically because Sony didn't have one easy solution that required 3 or fewer steps to get the trophy system fixed, you immediately jump to sell your PS3 and condemn Sony? Sounds logical. Especially since you appear to still be able to play your games perfectly well (you haven't indicated otherwise). This seems more like a cry for attention from either Xbox or PC fanboys here to "congratulate you" on your "smart" decision, however even the one 360 fanboy who came here to make that comment, basically called your reasoning stupid. Well played sir...

Just swap with one of the people giving up on the xbox 360.
Seems you just can't win with consoles at the moment, that said i've not seen someone complain about their wii not working.

Yes, sell your game console refuse to buy anything else from the manufacturer because it won't let you see some stupid cosmetic reward that serves no purpose besides forcing chumps and people who play for 100% to play for longer. Genius!

Or you could, y'know, play games for fun. That's kind of what they're around for. But what do I know? I've only been playing games since before trophies and achievements were around.

I've got a PS3 and it runs like a charm. I think I'm going to use it a bit later, actually. It's got a couple great exclusives, y'know. :)

So you got rid of what many consider the best of the three consoles in this generation for a couple of petty reasons, one of which actually sounds like what the guys at Sony said the problem was in the first place?

Guess all I can say is good luck trying to find sympathy, because from the looks of it you aren't getting a drop of it. Definitely not from me, especially considering the reason in your first post makes you look like one of those frat gamers who only care about how big your dick-hat is(achievements/trophies) and your undying need to get the newest military shooter. That's the main reason I prefer Nintendo consoles/handhelds: no obligatory score system to make an ass out of gamers.

Wow, are trophies really that important to you? My trophies haven't been synced in almost 2 years.

All of the problems you've had with your PS3 are garbage. OK, I'll give you the corrupted data. That would suck.

But it's no reason to sell the console and your entire library for said console. PS3s like yours are a pretty rare occasion, and trust me, there have been much worse cases than yours. You could have just gotten a new one, or sent it in for repair.

My 80GB launch PS3 hasn't done me wrong in all its years of existing, even though the place I keep it in is actually pretty dangerous for a console. It collects dust like it's addicted, and the immediate space around it heats up in minutes. But still, it works like a charm. The only problem I've ever had is the hard drive space, which is easily upgradeable.

I don't know what your point of posting this topic was. Whatever it was, it probably sucked.

Well, you'll be pleased to know that exclusives aren't the reason I buy consoles.
And what the fuck is this? No, seriously, why do you buy consoles if not for their exclusives? What conceivable reason could you have to buy one console over another, or multiple consoles, if exclusives aren't a factor?

Now now everyone. what's with all the abuse?! I can see that the issue here is minor compared to peoples consoles breaking or crap customer service but this is still an issue so there's no need to batter this user.

OT: That's unfortunate, you should play on a PC instead, much better ^^

Wow that's... pretty pathetic.

You got mad and sold you PS3 and all your games... because you couldn't see your trophies? Trophies that, may I add, are nothing but a small icon next to a pretty meaningless number that really serve absolutely no purpose?

Like the guy above me said, it's pretty damn hard to sympathize.
yea pretty much this

i dont have anything else to say besides that i think you over reacted

I'm not going to explain myself and my actions any further. All I will say is please read post #38, as this explains things in a bit more detail than my original post.

So, there you go, I've heard all the negatives and abuses, so please, can we give it a rest and put this issue to bed. Thank you.

I just buy games for whatever console I buy.

Sorry, I wasn't aware there was some kind of law that meant that you had to buy a console for its exclusives. I just like to be different.

So you dislike Sony cause you lost your crappy trophys for killzone 3 -_-. This kind of thinking will be the death of good gaming one day when your the majority due to bad influence.

I never said there was a law. I was hoping for some kind of clarification. What I'm gathering is that you choose your console purchases at random. Do you roll dice to decide? The biggest pull a console has is its exclusives. It's the biggest separator between them, and if that's not the reason you buy any specific console for, then I'm at a complete loss as to how you decide.

Well, maybe I do roll a dice to decide, or maybe I don't really buy into all that exclusive's business, or maybe I just freely make up my own mind based on what I want.

Whichever way you slice it, the point is I simply buy whatever console I feel like buying without thinking about what exclusives are coming to it. Yes, I pay attention to them, and I do buy them, but they're not what makes me buy a certain console over another, since there's a plethora of multi-platform games out there that I can worry about.
